Why are games $80 now?!

Fine. But they aren't at the same level of quality as 60$ games from 2015 so they shouldn't raise the price

Why haven't my wages increased by that much?

Video games don't inflate. They get cheaper. There is a nigh-unlimited supply of them available for competition, 99.999% of them will never "expire", and the prices of creating and releasing video games is so low in comparison that it's insane to ask for more than $5 for a video game.

b-but Squeenix spent $500 million on-

Huge fucking skill issue. Over half of the top sellers since 2020 have been made by less than 10 people working on pennies.

Yes 17K graphics card gonna filter the poor.

Because you either work in a shit job, haven't asked, or aren't good enough for a raise. If you don't have kids and are making at least 40k, you shouldn't have a single problem buying video games whatsoever at this price. If you make less than that, see the original thing, you have a shit job.

I asked my brother who has two young kids and bought no less than 3 switch1s what he thought about nintendos new system and strategy. He will be buying zero switch2s. “No parent is going to buy this for their kids.” He can most certainly afford it if he wanted to. This will be a common sentiment among other parents who shelled out for switch, I believe. Dark days ahead for nintendo.

Over half of the top sellers since 2020 have been made by less than 10 people working on pennies.

Call of Duty and Madden aren't games. The rest definitely have high budget costs.

Why has the price of an 8th of weed been $30-$40 dollars (50 for really "high end" shit) since 2006? The price has just remained the same this entire time

This is not how inflation works shithead.
Prices are not objective absolutes.

Delusional, the price of the console is completely fine. Parents buy a lot more expensive shit for their kids on christmas/birthdays in the past and presently. The games are the only difference maker, which just means they'll get slightly less games overall. They'll get 2 instead of 3.

They decided to follow Disney and make products priced for childless 30 year olds instead of children.

games were 40 in 2015 but nice try

implying weed hasn't gone up in places where it's not legal

Also what kind of dirt ass weed are you getting an eight for $30?

Games have never been $40 unless they were shit games, on sale, or remasters.

My whole life I keep seeing prices go up and purchasing power going down. When do you think we'll reach critical mass and the whole thing will collapse? Another 20 years?

My friend has future dreams and so far ever dream has come true, he has dreamed of video games still being around when he's 70, he's 34 now. So we got at least another 36 years.

The quality of games has gone down.
You're absurd if you think modern day unreal engine slop game are worth more than the soulful games made 20 years ago.

all Nintendo games were

its legal here as of a few years ago, but i was getting 8ths of kush/sour diesel/haze for no more than 40. now I go to the bodega and they have a laundry list of buds to pick from ranging from $25-60 an 8th but the $30 shit is still good. You could get an oz of shitty greens for $100, or a QP for like $500 back when i was in high school in the late aughts

You’re a childless tendie coping.
You’re right though, my brother shells out for all sorts of expensive things. But this has rubbed him the wrong way. And it’ll rub a lot of parents that don’t have his kind of money the wrong way too. Don’t expect to be beating and past records of sales this gen.

Did you not notice the absolute INSANE levels of inflation over the last several years?

Did you notice the absolute INSANE levels of salary growth over the last several years?
Yeah me neither.

No they weren't. I still remember TWW being $50 on release, games got jacked to $60 eventually.
Definitely some trash weed and you're getting lied to and ripped off. A fucking gram is typically $15-20 by itself.

We are nowhere near rock bottom
It astounded me when I learned how people in "normal" countries like Turkey and Argentina live. Not Somalia tier ruins, countries where there's big cities and skyscrapers and corporations and the entire population just sorta accepts that they will never have anything, and life goes on somehow and that's the way it always was

median salary of american's just 6 years ago was 42k

now it's 59k

You're just poor and do a shit job and can't get a raise.

inflation

You can't convince me that the consumer should be paying more, when there's no longer physical costs when consumers overwhelmingly buy digital, and on top of it, there's far more consumers than ever before.
Even formerly niche titles like Persona and Yakuza are selling 2+ million copies first week.

Childless

Nintendo's switch success came from the strategy to drop the appeal to children.
In fact, their previous controversy was about the joycons being too easily destroyed by children, and Nintendo's response was "fucking have some personal responsibility"

Even with your own selected window of time and your own numbers. That's below the rate of inflation.

Wii U games

lol
all 3DS games were 40
now reminde me, which console sold like hotcakes and which flopped?

now compare how much AAA video games make in 2015 vs 2025 and wages in 2015 vs 2025

e INSANE levels of salary growth

yes, in gamedevelopment.
your games will only cost more and more because 1million per game goes to DEI consultants, and each one of their 200+ "devs" get 100k salary each.

I know an concept artist who cant even draw, she gets a 100k salary and catered meals to do fucking nothing, and you are paying for it.

you’re getting ripped off

A gram is typically $15-20 by itself

Lmao, who’s getting ripped off???

I'm convinced you're all illegal immigrants working for pennies if you can't afford this shit. I bought a house, have a car, insurance, can my pay bills, have pets, and can still afford every console I can, with thousands in emergency funds and I work a dead end job for $17/hr.

If you can't do the same then you should really cut out a lot of the other bullshit you're probably spending on and hire a financial advisor because you're clearly doing something wrong.

No matter how much you spam this, I'm still not paying $80 for games.

stopposting.jpg - 1280x720, 127.86K

yes, in gamedevelopment.

Unless you're a lead dev, dev salaries have been stagnant as fuck. It's a lot cheaper to develop games now than before.

lmao, you're telling me what good weed is, like its hard to get any kind of good drug for a reasonable price in NYC. this website never ceases to amuse me
heres a pic of some that i grew myself - hopefully its legal someday where you live and you can stop paying retarded prices and acting like you're a connoisseur

Nintendo's switch success came from the strategy to drop the appeal to children

You can’t be serious.

there's big cities and skyscrapers and corporations and the entire population just sorta accepts that they will never have anything, and life goes on somehow and that's the way it always was

can you elaborate more on this? i am interested

He's not wrong. People haven't been doing $10 a gram for weed since 2010 and even then it was a toss up whether it was dirt weed or not.

Also, you want to reduce inflation ? Then you to have to slash insane federal spending.

NYC prices were $15-20 a gram from street dealers. Legal weed is often cheaper.

Alas, it’s illegal to not hire women or POCs, anon.
You aren’t even allowed to expect them to do their jobs.

cool it with the antisemitism

average price is $326/oz

326/8 = $40.75 per 8th

Which is exactly what I fucking said to begin with. Its also worth noting that I used to get it a little cheaper because I getting it in larger quantities or from people who were moving weight.
Yea i remember the days when I was happy with a 1 gram dub but that was a very long time ago. Once it became legal in California prices here got more reasonable. Also i stopped being a broke teenager and only having $20 bucks for bud, its a lot cheaper and cost effective to just buy a fucking 8th for $20 more dollars and get more than twice the product

This might be one of the saddest weed plants I've ever seen, holy shit.

Well I’m canadian. I guess it would blow your mind if you were here and getting 3 grams of great weed for $25 cnd for the last ten years even before it became legal.

Post the ones your growing, anon

The Second World or whatever, the countries that in many ways look "normal" like there's no starving children laying around or guys waving AK47s

But in Istanbul for instance, the average salary is $400 a month and the average rent is $750 a month. It should be untenable but instead people shrug it off.

To me, the universal symbol for it is when you start seeing everybody on scooters instead of in cars

And it's definitely spreading, I look at Canada now where the average person makes $63,000 a year and the average house is $1.1 million and there's no way to ever square that, it was over before you were born

hqdefault.jpg - 480x360, 63.1K

Weed depends whether you know the person or not typically and where you live. Small towns tend to rip people off more than bigger cities because it's harder to come by, or you're acting through a middle man who is taking a cut of the profits. Also buying larger amounts you tend to get better deals because they're trying to move it quickly, even if it means slightly less money for them as a whole. I've seen eights go anywhere from $30-120 depending on where you're buying from and how/who you're buying it from. Just the same as it's always a good idea to have a scale on you and to have that shit weighed out as well before you hand over money, too many people like to skim (even if its little amounts like shit loaded with seeds or weight the bag/jar itself as well).

With that said, should just go ahead and make it legal in the rest of the states, kind of ridiculous at this point it's not just federally legal.

N-NOOOOO IM ENTITLED!!! FUCKING ENTITLED!!! TO GAMING COMPANIES SELLING TO ME AT A LOS!!!

FUCK YOU!!! THE ISSUE ISNT MY WAGE BEING TOO LOW AND NOT HAVING CAUGHT UP WITH INFLATION, ITS EVIL NINTENDO BEING GREEDY

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

This is true, but the higher price would be easier to swallow if games were actually still good.

Some games are still good, you've just become a husk.

When?

Don't compare 2015 Kino with the shit woketards are developing these days.

wouldnt it be funny if the guy who made jacked the numbers up on every calculation
haha

the look.jpg - 184x184, 16.38K

Nintendo should really be the last company to raise prices because their dev expenses are so low

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet had a production budget of $25 million and made $1.5 billion, how the fuck can you go "6000% ROI isn't good enough"

The only Nintendo games that even approach $100 million budget are Zelda while other AAA companies regularly blow 3x to 4x that on shit nobody ever heard of

I'm okay with them firing their Indian staff to reduce prices again.

Nope. When I entered the industry in 2007 the "standard" for a concept artist was 45k, now 45k is "low-entry", and the "standard" is 75k. Back then benefits werent great either, but now its just adult daycare. If youve ever seen the "tech girlie" shit from itsagundam, thats how game studios are set up in america and canada.

I recently applied to work with digital extremes(warframe) on a marketing role, the job? "Capture and cut together appealing gameplay for sharing on social media", the salary? 70k. On a campus with organic catering done by an in-house chef, a full gym and gym stipend if you have your own, a bar, cafe, etc.
The only reason I didnt take it was it was in-office and I dont want to move to fucking baggedmilkland.

Surely people value games the same as any other good and thus demand will remain the same if we jack up prices.

After all, gaming is as important as food and housing.

don't worry, i was never going to buy it anyway

Irrelevant bullshit, purchasing power has gone down. Just because you're stupid enough to pay $5 for a tootsie roll doesn't mean it isn't a scam.

let's adjust the price of games based on how much the company makes on the release, given that they can produce infinite quantity without cost
ohhhhhhhhhhhh you don't like that idea do you

he's not getting those golden premium tootsie rolls for $5.20

Someone is out of the loop.

cool
talk about purchasing power of the average consumer next
in the US, there's been a 14.9% wage increase since 2010 vs. like 45% inflation in the same period. canada: 11.1%. australia: 5.5%. in the UK, wages are effectively flat at 2.6%.
as a consumer, i* don't give a fuck about inflation when billion dollar companies are pricing the successor to a device with 14% profit margins(1) when my purchasing power for every good has not kept pace with inflation. consumers are being priced out of luxury goods** and trying to convince them they aren't because you looked at beancounter numbers isn't going to change that, bootlicker.

*not me specifically, as i can afford it, but the general consumer
(1)expertbeacon.com/does-switch-sell-at-a-loss/
**literally a poorfag issue

You are mentally 10 if the only thing that matters is you can get thing.

I bet he doesnt even know where to find them...people like that really live in a different world than us.

Now look at the salaries for programmers. And not the lead programmers, but the code monkeys.

It's really sad. Bet they're gonna be even sadder when they find out some of us got an invitational for the Heavenly Star Platinum Tootsie Rolls for $9.60.

What is the point of arguing that nintendo should be operating as a charity?
Were you just as pissed when ps5 was 799? Are you mad about gacha's? The average gacha game player spends SIX HUNDRED on a free to play game, and youre bitching that people who are "totally not me guys" are paying 10-20 dollars extra per game?

real answer:
you and your labor has not increased in value.
Population increases has led to goods being in more demand.

Simple.
As.

Nintendo games already cost $90, 60 for the base game and another 30 for the season pass if you want the complete game. Who knows what the real price of the new ones will be?

Inflation rose but wages didn't
The prices of games rose but quality dropped sharply

I didnt, I fucking enter that lottery every fucking year and I havent won an invitation yet.
Its probably because I mentioned at a tootsie gala one year that I was more of a reeses' man, I swear they have been throwing out my tickets since then.

They definitely do, but don't worry anon, I heard Ressee's is going to be do a Chocofire Gala on their Peanut Yacht this May.

2015

Games sucked even then

Its fucking disgusting, in 07 they were paid exactly the same as we were, they are literally less useful now than ever and somehow getting paid more because fucking boomer/xer retards running the company think they are the backbone despite the fact that proprietary engines that might have justified the cost have been dead for a decade.

Anon, I've gone from making $12 an hour in 2020 to $53 an hour, you're just a lazy faggot.

Nothing what you said is relevant. OP is using inflation to justify the increase of prices, while it was just proven that it doesn't. It's that simple.

are you retarded? i'm not telling you that nintendo should operate as a charity. i'm saying that screeching that "$60=$80" to defend your chosen golden calf is categorically wrong for the average person spending it.
my issue isn't with the company, it's with the cocksucking roaches like you desperate to defend them from their audience saying "this is priced higher than i would prefer" using misleading statistics.

Imagine being solipistic enough to pretend everything is fine

The games aren't more expensive, they're just adjusted for inflation now.

Yes and income isn't retard thats the entire fucking point, the cost of living has gone up but not only do you earn less money it doesn't buy as much now.

How is that Nintendo's problem your Government and real estate sucks?

I havent paid attention to any of the news since lent started, so I wouldnt know about it, but if the rumors are true I'd be happier with the Luxe cup than the HSP anyway, I heard the peanuts they use for that fuckin thing are so carefully bred that there is a natural wine flavour in it, fucking luxury.

The word you're looking for is "solipsistic", sweaty. This is why you're still making $7.25 at Burger King

esl

Wait until you hear about the Purple Rain special they're gonna be doing for the Elite Buyers for July 4th.

They wouldn't be operating as a charity.
Nintendo literally just had their most profitable years ever.
But the purchasing power of their consumers is lagging behind.

Even from a stone cold analysis, you'll have to recognize that there is a breaking point. You can only milk your consumers up to a point. Eventually you'll have to accept that hard times hits both ways, and give some leeway or you'll lose both market shares and profit.

It isn't vidya is a luxury but you seem to lack reading comprehension. It's inaccurate so say vidya isn't more expensive, vidya staying the same while your money loses buying power means you can't buy the same amount of vidya as before so its effectively the same thing when you adjust for inflation.

What motivates this specific kind of jerkoff?

Did they exist during previous times of economic hardship? Maybe Marie Antoinette, I guess

dustbowl.jpg - 1414x858, 324.27K

Are you mad about gacha's?

Actually, yes, gacha whales are a huge yet underrated part of why the industry feels they can price-gouge us for everything. They've seen how much money the DSPs of the world spend on gambling for .jpegs and they rightfully conclude that their customers, by and large, have no standards anymore.

They just realize that the 1% who will constantly spend are more important than the 99% who barely spend or never spend.

perversion of the american cultural narrative.
the original lie told was "you can gain social mobility if you work hard enough". it is now imperative for the 1% to maintain this lie to keep the 99% docile. how dare you be poor and expect more out of your life

Nintendo fans ca.1793: "Dear peasants, please come to the castle. I've baked a cake for you."

In the case of Tate he exploits people's desperation, just like any conman.
More hardship, more desperate people.
Marie Antoinette is different, she was an out of touch elite.

trafficker tate

Didn't this dysgenic fag die from lung cancer or something?

tatertot.png - 1033x971, 785.97K

yes, i know it's a misattribution

What motivates this specific kind of jerkoff?

Ego and grifting, it's why tribals wear a ton of gold and brag about having a big dick. It makes them feel like top monkey, then brainlets believe the act enough to give them resources so they can maybe be a bit more top monkey, too. Extermination is the only solution.

Adjusted for inflation

Keep gargling that industry cock, maybe the post nut clarity will let the figure out how to budget well enough to survive without every game needing to break into God's piggy bank just to break even
The industry is incompetent and greedy, inflation doesn't have a thing to do with it beyond being the latest shield used to justify demanding yet more money, before going right back to the same overly monetized slop as always to nickel and dime you even more

find a specific subset of suckers

tell them what they want to hear

watch the money roll in

Religous leaders - those who actually believe and those who do it soley for profit - have been doing this for millenia

EXCUSE ME, AHEM!! Please consult the graphs!!

look ma, i posted it again

My favorite game is Terraria, which can be bought on sale for 99 cents. Every single game in the world should either be sold at the same price point, or justify why it's more expensive.

WE SPENT MORE ON GRAPHICS

Maybe you shouldn't have.

BUT WE NEEDED MORE CINEMATICS AND VOICE ACTING

Then you should've made a movie, you Druckmann lovers.

BUT WE NEEDED TO PAY THE 5000 DIVERSITY HIRES AND HR MANAGERS

Sucks for you. Not my problem.

Not worth it
