one on the right clashes with the environment

Reals fans play them on original hardware.

lol at psychosis mario

Sony fags make a new thread like every half hour about this. What the fuck are you talking about

Sonyfags

PC

????????

being this new

mario 64 has a really nice sourceport but that's not true of every game. if I could blink a crt n64 setup into existence I'd probably take that over an emulator for most games.

It's still crazy to me how there is such an overwhelming amount of god-tier Mario 64 romhacks out there. B3313, Star Revenge 3.5/5.5/6.25, Ztar Attack 2, BZAR, Rogue Chaos, Balloon Slider Mania, Monstrous Manor, and that's not even considering classics like 74 or Star Road.

And literally the majority of Nintendo fans will never play them because they don't own PC's and if they do, they have no idea how to emulate. It's crazy.

Mod the environment.

I wouldn't call them god-tier. Most of the fun simply comes from how good it feels to control Mario. The vanilla experience (with analog camera) is still the best im0. My playthroughs all come from SM64excoop multiplayer which makes it more fun, yet I've tried Star Revenge, Star Road, and 74, and they all kinda suck. And I'll never understand B3313.

wii/u and 3ds/ds play worse on PC

render 96 looks bad. I'm fine with the concept of replacing models of classic games with HD versions, and I understand that render 96 is trying to create models that look like the promotional renders for Mario 64 from that time, but it looks bad.

Even if you prefer the vanilla levels, somehow, BZAR and Rogue Chaos is a super fun way to re-experience the base game.

As for Star Revenge, Star Revenge 1 and 2 are dogshit. Star Road/74 are not *that* great, but they have their moments. I can't imagine not enjoying 3.5/5.5/6.25 though, the level design in those is just phenomenal.

kys if serious

proof?

pc fags are unironically the biggest nintendo fans. it's all they play.

that updated model is disgusting looking jfc

Idk if it's just nostalgia blindness but SM64 mario is really cute and charming. But that shit on the right is creepy. I wonder if it's possible to make an "HD" version that doesn't suck so much. Even pic-related still looks worse to me somehow.

Do you like smash 64 mario?

how do you feel about this one?

NINTENDO RAPE THIS MAN

Now that i would be impressed by. Remodeling everything to look like the pre-rendered concept art.

They were going after how he looks in the renders. But honestly the one Kaze is using in his hack is much better, and somehow is lighter than the original one on real hardware

The entire project went to shit, it looked fine once

pctrannyvegans talk about it constantly tho

You're obviously right, but don't expect Anon Babble to be able to set up an emulator.

I think SM64 is the best quality but they all somehow fit their respective games. Like I wouldn't simply port SM64 model directly to Smash64 or Mario Party if that makes sense. Only the sports ones are kinda trash.

It makes tendies seethe, so if you know, you know. No need to rub it in their faces all the time, they are happy enough paying for limited editions of emulators and paying online subscription so they can use PJ64 tier emulators.

This game isnt worth playing at all, unless mods fixed it

A lot of old games in general look great with a resolution bump, if nothing else emulators are great for that

I know, you can see I'm in the starting area, but if you want to play it it's there

Scary

The original model is interesting because Nintendo had no idea what they were doing, it's just a bunch of connected tubes. It's also way higher poly than it looks.

That's actually pretty good. If I had to nitpick I would slim his cheeks a bit. I'd be curious to see it higher-poly since it now looks strange with high-res textures. But yeah I think it's better than original.

The point is making it the best looking possible while also being optimal enough to run on a real N64. That one is actually lighter than the original. And it isn't really high res, just did some things correctly, like handing the alpha right, so it doesn't look aliased.
Nintendo was really amateur at the time, don't forget that Mario 64 was one of the first proper 3D games, so no one had any idea about what they were doing. For example, the model they used in MK Double Dash has less polygons than the SM64 one (636 vs 788) despite looking way better. Same for MK Wii

Kaze is based as fuck, he optimized the game so much that now he can make levels that look like DC tier and almost hit 60fps. Also runs fucking Delfino Plaza at stable 30fps, on a real N64.

almost

This looks better than the entirety of Sonic Adventure already.

N64 only controls right on an N64.
