The $100k+ puts all those people into a group because they are equally happy.
The book argues that once you reach this happiness of money you should donate that money or invest it into things in your community as the happiness gained from those things will be more than the extra money.

Really, I don't care about the money I make from a job in terms of how much money I have. I already have a house, I spend next to nothing every month, the only thing me having more money would do would be continue to put it away for investments and grow a nest egg I won't ever actually use for myself.
But the salary I make is what I consider to be directly representative of my value to the world, so of course I always want more. Like a dragon hoarding away gold, I don't really need anything extra for its own sake, I need it because it's an ego boost.
