People were drinking "skotchka" (scotch mixed with vodka because there's a scene where Tommy's making a fucking horrible mixture of the two), people were throwing footballs back and forth to mock all the parts where characters just start tossing footballs in the most retarded places like a stairwell, and audience members were yelling "CLOSE THE GOD DAMN DOOR" every time a character entered. Those movies grew into their cult classic status when they weren't understood at the time of their initial release. This is a movie designed to be a blockbuster, based off the best selling gaming IP, using the tired plot of real life people enter game world, picking the obvious choice of celebrities to play such roles. It's a movie design by committee as it gets.

Everyone isn't misunderstanding what the movie is and they know that deep down that it's a terrible movie at its core. The only difference is that it did what Morbius couldn't and made a forced meme work. It's on the same level of suggesting that a game is fun with friends when every game can be fun with friends. This is like if we got my pals to go to a screening of Titanic and when the guy screams "Iceberg, dead ahead!" and we threw bags of ice cubes at the crowd to film everyone's reactions over it we could make it look fun. Remove that element and Titanic would still be seen as a great movie. Remove that from the Minecraft movie and it'll be the same as the Avatar movies. Movies that earn a lot of movie but overall forgettable. It's good for reviving the mostly dead box office for 2025. They should probably pay their theater workers a little more money for having to do extra work cleaning up at the least.
