if you want to min/max you have to keep your characters lvl 1 throughout the entire game until you get access to disc 4 equipment
except for eiko who for some reason inherits marcus's stat gains which means you have to hit lvl 99 with marcus during the segment you infiltrate the prison to save garnet
i really hope they fix this part because it completely ruined ff9 for me

The stat gains from gear should at least be made visible to the player ingame instead of just some hidden extra stat gains you'd normally never realize even existed.
From everything that has been said about it, it sounds like a Trails of Mana style remake but with a higher budget because it’s FF. But who knows how accurate that info has been.

The guard design is good. It's a fun play on bikini armor where instead of a bikini it's one-piece swimsuit armor.
Blank is also a pretty silly design. He has frankenstein scars and belts covering his body, even his blindfold is a belt.
The only complaint I had about trials was removing the multiplayer, but that was a fucking huge removal.

Excalibur 2 should be done on a separate playthrough anyway. And in PS1 it also required skipping cutscenes and restarting from a save point if you get ambushed because the fight load camera panning counts to the time.
Excalibur 2 isn't a real problem. The player doesn't even know about that, it's an extreme and totally optional challenge to prove game mastery, not some core gameplay aspect. JRPG spergs are fucking morons

Excalibur 2 runs were bullshit in Europe because the way it was timed was busted. To stand a chance of doing it, you had to keep opening the PS1 disc tray to force skip cutscenes. It was a fun idea poorly executed.
