The game isn't being considered a "numbered entry" because Uchikoshi wasn't responsible for the scenario, despite that there's still a willingness to make games for the series in the future and that they're considering possibilities where he might not be involved.

It was originally intended to be a small download-only title, but the scope of the game grew to the point that it's now comparable in length to the previous games.

I'm pretty excited for it. Really enjoyed AI1 and 2. Kinda glad they didn't make this AI3 as this is some guy I've never heard of before being in charge but I don't mind handing the spin off series to the newbies and let them get experience. Either way jumping in day 1.

I was actually surprised to see so many Nirvana defenders after the game was announced, most discussions seemed to agree the game was pretty underwhelming mainly due to the lack of Date/Aiba interactions which hard carried the first game

Yeah. While I liked NI, I just don't think Aiba really meshed as well with Mizuki as she did with Date. Aiba and Mizuki were already pretty similar in personality so it made their dynamics kind of underwhelming.
