Talk to the Move Deleter NPC and remove the unwanted moves from the base demons.
and where would one find this move deleter?
Pranked ;)
I don't defend it. It's shit and there's a reason they changed it in the Nocturne remaster to where you can select your own skills for inheritance. I still have no idea why Atlus ever made the inheritance random back then.
Brother I spent 3 hours making a perfect daisoujou back in the days
get the pc port, get the 60fps mod and get the minimap mod and nocturne is good. (i dont know if this is nocturne)
there's a reason they changed it in the Nocturne remaster
Reminder: It was added in later. It launched with the same bullshit as the OG until the japs complained.
That was wack.
I just don’t do that. Fusion is sacrificial. You make the decision to trade stuff you have for something new. Is it so hard to understand that the older Megaten games are designed differently? Even playing the remaster I don’t bother picking anything. It literally doesn’t matter in this game.
Play on easy?
Nine times out of ten you only need a few skills not the perfect set. It also made levelup moves more valuable. That said, I prefer just being able to pick skills. Most people would probably just savescum it anyway.
My real problem with Nocturne is
go to boss
learn it's moveset, patterns, and weakness
die to boss
come back with new team designed to deal with the mechanics.
actually no, you're about two steps from the boss room? Back attack, instant death on Demi. Game over. Walk through that hallway again.
What do you gain from defending THIS shit? Early-mid game where this happens most you can't become immune to all instant death. There isn't any skill or player involvement at all really. The dice just say fuck you and you have to waste 2-5min of your life walking through a hallway again. This happened enough that it was frustrating. Thankfully there are tools against it late game and Estroma is goated but fuck off with how many people defend this.
wait until you play 4a when the very final boss requires magaon and only low level demon has it for some reason, and since all end game demons are special fusion only, have fun spending 2 hours to make one.
reset skills
get two of the things I want and one extra shitty skill like the demon recruitment passive instead of a useful move
When I first played IV I was so happy to just pick and choose to make whatever OP demons I wanted
No, you don't understand I need to minmax my playthrough the guide said I need that skill
Hmmmm you are supposed to git gud. It's your fault that you rolled a back attack and got hit by an instant death skill before you had any immunity or resist.
Yeah same, I liked Nocturne for what's worth but I'm not going to say this game is fair and balanced in any way, you go in expecting bullshit until you can outbullshit the game yourself, which might take a while to get started since fusions have level requirements
Yeah the thing is the game snaps you over its own knee like a twig and expects you to retaliate the same way, I actually knew ahead of time the bullshit that Mot would do because this board kept spamming memes associated with it so during my playthough I built a team around countering his bullshit and spanked him on the first try. The game still had its challenges though despite this.
Mot is a little overhyped since the chance of getting Beast Eye'd is fairly low, but the fact it can even do that sounds more like an oversight than an intentional challenge.

I beat solo run, so it's not bothering me.
T-the random skills are for extra challenge so you have to roll with punches instead of going optimizing your gameplay! Yes!
If you care, you will quicksave and load until you get the desired result.
If you don't care, this will literally never affect you.
I do not see the problem unless you are playing on console like a cuck.
reset for 5 minutes
finally get the skills that you want
muscle memory kicks in and you reset again
nooo let me pick inhereted skills
okay
wooooow this game is easy af and boomers shat their pants playing THIS?
The game devs assume you're an adult and not an autistic child that has a compulsion to do extremely boring things for an advantage, the same way they don't stop you from grinding to max level in the starting hospital
And even if you're autistic enough that you do need a hyper specific skillset on 1 demon even though you can swap between them mid-battle and have way more demons then party member slots, you can just fuse demons in a way where the skills you don't want doesn't carry over to the two materials that make the thing you actually want, and then fuse that instead of OXOXOXOXOXOXOXing for 30 minutes until you finally stop getting agi when you wanted agidyne.
Gamers being unable to play games outside of the least fun way possible and then complaining about it is why every modern game is handholdy slop btw so fuck you
one extra shitty skill like the demon recruitment passive
these are really great though? the reason why the recruitment is so RNG in this game is because it wants you to have these skills to make negotiation way easier and without ever using them you're just making the game way more annoying for no reason
defend this fatlusbabs
a demographic you dislike also dislikes that feature so now you have to pretend to like it to own them
Kek, this literally happened to Resident Evil Remake after the HD remaster introduced alternative controls
It's still a fun game, best world design (2 and 4 are very close) but yeah, little things like that are irritating.
I had no issue with this guy, but Ongyo-Ki was a pain in the ass. I don't recall any NPCs telling you to fight him during a full moon. So I tarded my way through it just attacking random targets. Took me like two full days worth of attempts to finally kill him that way. THEN someone told me about the shadow being visible on the full moon. I looked it up, and I will never not be mad.
you play the HD Remaster that fixes this nonsense that hasn't come back
People just reset for a few minutes until they got the skills they wanted in the past anyway, letting you pick inherited skills is just saving people time. Nocturne was always an easy game propped up by people who haven't played a Megaten before. Sukukaja alone absolutely breaks the game in half, 3 stacks is pretty much enough to stop anything in the game from hitting you and 4 is just for good measure, Sukunda too if you want to be super duper sure.
Ironically I never ran into issues with Mot, he only Beast Eye'd like three times and it felt legit for his gimmick. I think I'm just lucky with SMT cause I never got fucked during Minotaur in IV either.
Gotta admit P5 did it better in that regard.
Minotaur is different since it mostly depends on who you get as a follower. He's pretty normal unless you get Walter, in that case the fight gets a good bit harder since Walter might smirk him and fuck you over.
yeah I didn't get Walter, so I missed what made him so difficult until I saw the memes.
You forgot fog breath. What were they thinking? Thank skill is so busted and you get it so early.
its somewhat balanced by it's MP cost at the earliest you can get it. It pretty much wipes out any demon's MP using it once.
Yeah personally I always thought Medusa was a lot harder
I suppose it is a steep cost, but it can still neuter a ton of bosses. Unlocking it almost immediately after Forneus felt kinda nuts.
the game is easy bro, you just use the skills that cheese it and make demons with exact movelists to counter bosses
its almost like there's a reason why you don't get the exact skills you want for free in this game
nta but
first SMT game was 4
Minotuar took a few tries but he wasn't too bad.
Get to Medusa
actually get stuck on her
At the very least, she taught me how to play the game the right way. She legitimately felt like the hardest boss in 4. I recall some people complaining about Pluto but I had Orochi with poison immunity and a few other status immunties by that point. He literally rolled over that entire segment of the game. I use him in every SMT game now if I can.
if you're level 21 after forneus you're crazy overleveled, I'm usually barely that high by the time I'm going to be fighting matador
You're right, I apologize I'm not the best at communicating my thoughts. It's the tism. I just meant it unlocks once you have the magtama. I did have Fog Breath for Matador, I figured that was the intended method to deal with Red Capote.
hey it's all good
I figured that was the intended method to deal with Red Capote.
won't he just immdately cast it again to unfuck his debuffs because it's literally "put my speed at sukukaja x4 for free" instead of +/- any specific amount. it helps to eat up his turns but I'd rather just get a guy that nulls force for that
The gameplay is so good in this game holy shit.
very nice, now show us Lucifer
Do you really need it to beat the game?
Most of mainline is like that. Still never changed.
It's the better system because fusing powerful demon's requires careful planning. The newer games hand out OP demons like candy.
show rngman right after this fight lol
Sure as soon I can fit 30 minutes of video into a 4mb webm.
He's pretty normal unless you get Walter
Even without Walter you can get deleted by an unlucky crit>smirk combo. That's of course an issue with the game in general but at that point you have zero counterplay.
The actually hardest part of the game imo are the arena battles.
Them why give us the chance to reshuffle the inherited skills in the first place.
Lucifer
Wasn't hard. I beat him first try but I did almost beef it by not staying topped off.
If you remove rng then the game only has 2 hours of content
There are a shit ton of demons with sukukaja and they literally want you to use it against Matador. Buffs and debuffs are a quintessential part of the game and they try to beat that lesson into you. You're just saying dumb shit now.
Yeah but that's just a luck of the draw situation and I don't really consider it a "fuck this is really hard" kind of boss since you could just go back in with the same strategy and win easily as long as the RNG Gods don't fuck you over.
I would have to agree with some other anons here and say Medusa is the actual wake-up fight. Minotaur is just there to show you how horseshit the new smirk system can be.
we've always hated this and never defended it
no, faggot
some of us just accepted what we got and went on with our lives and played the game. you're the retard here
I don't. There's a reason why Atlus made selective inheritance standard in modern games. If they wanted inherited skills to be random, they should have just made it random, but then they gave you the ability to back out and reroll skills, effectively giving you selective inheritance with the only gate being time. It is just there to waste time, which is the gold standard for fake difficulty. It's not actually hard, it's just there to annoy you.
This is a silly way of looking at it. Backing in and out of the menu over and over isn’t something the game encourages you to do. If you look at the evolution of the games up to Nocturne it makes sense. There didn’t used to be any skill inheritance. You had to sacrifice your demons and their skills. Inherited skills popped up later as a bonus by adding random skills from the fused demons. The idea of micromanaging this wasn’t intended until SMT IV and later. In any game before SMT IV it’s safe to ignore it.
Doesn't one of the 2nd party have it? I think Walter does. Either way you're just supposed to spam Flynn's sword to create a weakness or use phys anyway
this alone makes the remaster the better version, audiophiles be damned
fuse angel
win 1 fight
inherit magaon to nanashi
???
You don’t have to back out over and over. This is unintended. You’re annoying yourself by doing it. It’s like smacking your head with a shoe and blaming the shoemaker for letting you do it. I promise that you can easily beat a game like Nocturne without thinking about the inherited skills once. Just fuse away your old demons for new demons and they’ll always be more than good enough to get you through.
The problem is the half-assed design. Atlus kept one foot in and one foot out when it came to what you were and weren't allowed to do. If they intended inheritance to work the way you said, they would've made it a one and done deal. They clearly intended the opposite, because thats what the eventually went with.
People just reset for a few minutes until they got the skills they wanted
No, reseting for a few minutes got you acceptable skills, you made do with a few must-haves and moved on. People who claim picking your perfect set of skills in an instant is just time-saving are lying because it was time no one was reasonably spending in the first place.
I don’t know about you, but when I can’t pick the skills, and I have to back in and out of a menu to redo the results, my gamer instincts tell me “I’m not supposed to do this. I should move on.” And I do, and as I do it becomes clear that was the right choice. When you’re not able to do something with direct input it’s usually the game designer’s way of communicating that you’re not supposed to bother with it. Unless it’s a random element that the game clearly encourages like a gacha system. But outside of Nocturne HD there’s no reroll button. You have to do something out of context to achieve it by reloading a menu.
The game is easy enough on a normal playthrough that you don't need perfect skills and you can just go with whatever you're given.
