Nah, my first game was Blue in like 2000 on a 100-in-1 cart. Ngl part of why I like BW so much is because of the hype from all the great fanart before the worldwide release. Probably unpopular opinion but the graphical style with the animated pokemon was great, one of my favorites next to gen 4 and 6. BW2 were just straight up improvements and fixed the nothing postgame of BW. The DS era was just full of good games for pokemon in general, not just mainline.

The Trials in Sun/Moon were really weird. All of them were """puzzles""" where the guide or someone basically gives you the solution. I didn't get it, but there are Gyms again in Gen 8-9 so I guess it wasn't popular.

Both BW and SM had a good story, the difference between the two is that SM is boring to replay because it's filled with tons of filler dialogue irrelevant to the story or the characters.

The problem is GameFreak is fucking retarded and doesn't know what they're doing. A long-standing complaint with the gym structure is how linear it makes the games and the fundamental flaw of being able to annihilate an entire gym with a single fast and strong Pokémon who knows the right move. The obvious solution to this is to make trainers scale based on progress so you can tackle gyms in any order and give gym trainers/leaders a small degree of variety while maintaining the theme so you occasionally have to think but this is too much work for GameFreak so they opted to make puzzles which were already present in gyms and spoonfeed you the answer because the game is made by retarded devs.

It was fun, and at least the character designs weren't bad to look at, with some of them being fantastic, while the OST was pretty great (Malie city, Vast Poni canyon). Totem pokemon could've all gone in the direction of Whiscash, Mimkyu was nice.
The anime was pretty good too, and ultra beasts of course. Manga edition for this arc was one of the best.
Lana, Mallow, Lilie, Mina, Acerola, Hapu, Nanu, Kukui (and wife), Kahili, Hala, all good characters.

Legends Tapu sounds like something nice, but it'll probably be rotten, since we can't have anything good anymore.
