Dante's face and hair looks especially off to me in that panel.
The concept art and renders always had a more western action hero and real life toku inspiration than manga and anime, as its roots are Resident Evil which has always tried to be as realistic as they could make it.

None of these super detailed renders for 5 are really indicative of the in-game models.
All the renders they made for the characters like this are noticeably different to their in-game models.
They also didn't just scan in the models and call it a day, they went ahead and modified each scan after to make them look even closer to the characters.
It's the same thing with the DMC2 and 3 renders where they really do not look much like the in-game model. Dante's face in the promotional renders for 3 is quite different from his in-game face.
I think 4 is the one where they look the closest to the in-game model, it might actually just be the identical in-game model but with higher fidelity in 4's case, but I'm not 100% sure on that one.

Outside of a broader chin and looking a bit older, he doesn't look that different if you give him his old hair.

I am trying to make this coexist with Reuben's DMC6 "slip up". The wild idea I'm starting to form in my head is that DMC6 could be a mix of present day and flashback, so you could have the older Dante and Vergil and their younger selves. As trash as the jeet anime is, it proves there's definitely interest and market for young Dante and I feel that thing was useful for Capcom to test the waters.

NTA but I think 5 primes you to have a mindset that will hurt your perception of the older games. It leaned heavily into aerial combat, juggle combos, swapping styles etc.
Air mobility was never really a thing prior to 4, and juggle combos were always in the games but they were meant to be an achievement when you reached a high level of skill rather than the primary method of fighting. There are a lot of people who have gone back to 3 and criticized the enemy design for being bad but part of that is because they have this mindset of "everything should let me combo it all the time, if I can't combo it then it's a badly designed enemy."
If you know to avoid that mindset then the largest issue of starting with 5 is that it builds on previous games for its story and mechanics a lot so you can't fully appreciate it without that prior knowledge, but really the largest issue is that 5 primes you to have a different perception on the older games simply because its core game design is subtly but radically different.
Arachnes are cool enemies and people who hate them for subtly introducing the stun mechanic prior to DMD are stupid.

Also 5 is mischaraterized as a game where juggling reigns supreme, when in reality the true easy mode is using downs because, while a large portion of the enemies have some juggle counter measure, only one enemy type (Empusa Queen) can't be downed at all (even Behemoth and Scissors have a downed state) and downing is refreshed when you stagger an enemy, so you can keep hitting them indefinitely so long as you don't knock them back, unlike juggles which are much more strict.

Meanwhile in 3 you have things like chessmen which are a whole class of enemy that has no knockback or stagger of any type. This means when you're fighting them a weapon like the Shotgun completely loses one of its main perks, and something like Kalina Ann can't crowd control as well as it could otherwise. While 5 has a bunch of enemies that can block ranged attacks or deal with getting knocked back, none of those things are ever completely useless because you're given work arounds. If you understand how the enemies work, then something like Hell Judecca goes from being super annoying, to an enemy that just requires a specific type of effect to be stopped on its tracks. Hell, they even gave charged Gun Stinger one of thectwo types of effects that stop it from teleporting, so while it's usually immune to guns and attacking at long range, if you know that the close range gun hard counters it permanently.

But motherfuckers on Anon Babble don't know any of that and will keep trolling about juggles cuz they don't lab.
