I'm still early on in the game but playing on hard mode, I think the combat is actually quite decent. I don't get why people complain about it.

The regular enemies can chunk you down to 20% with just two hits and they have a dash attack ability that will blindside you unless you time it right. Dodging also had a timing where if you dash at the last moment, you deal damage and briefly stun enemies. But you also don't want to dash away too far from the enemies because you can't capitalize on that window to deal damage. there are also these hives that spawn slowly moving kamikaze insects that you can push away into enemies for damage. I'm still early on so maybe if it doesn't evolve it might get boring but I'm enjoying it so far

in terms of level design, it reminds me a lot of the old prince of persia. lots of ledge grabbing and platforming. also lots of hidden areas with upgrade points to find. honestly playing this game makes me want to play the og pop games

Personally don't care much about combat in games nowadays. It's simultaneously the easiest thing to get right, and hardest thing to actually do well. there are some challenges where you have to figure out how to chain your abilities to reach a hidden area but so far they're not as in depth or challenging as the og pop games. I remember that the pop secrets were true secrets because there was no indication that they were even there so discovering them felt so good. and on top of that you have to run the gauntlet of traps, spikes, saws, and platforming puzzles to get to the end. in comparison, this game is way less challenging. like maybe it'll take you half a dozen tries on the most difficult ones but you can see from the beginning that there's something there and resetting and starting over is relatively quick so there's less at stake. that's why I said this makes me want to play the og pop games
