the few times I got to play it, it was the most fun I've ever had with a game

years later, I would find out Spore is one of the biggest disappointed in gaming history

they should have at least merged tribal/civ stage into a single stage with upgradable tech.

hell, this is far from a hot take, but most stages feel like disconnected gimmicks that don't really build on each other except from when they brought back creature stage mechanics with galactic adventures.
If they ever release a Spore 2 I hope they do something like this:

cell stage

it's mostly fine, keep it as a simpler, 2D creature stage and creature creator tutorial

creature stage

actual core gameplay mechanic, all its really missing is more variety in terms of level design and possibilities. no need to add a "ocean stage" or whatever, just allow for more verticallity and the ability to get sea creature parts.

trib/civ stage

merge them into one and make it the tutorial for space stage mechanics such as (ship) weapons, trading, resource gathering, etc.

space stage

it's the end goal, where every mechanic you learned so far comes into play and is expanded upon, both inside and outside your ship.

they really don't need much more than that to make it work, just polish the game as much as possible instead of making more useless gimmicky stages.
