I think Halo gets a pass because the developers didn't design the game around player assistance or simplified level design. It has aim assist, but a lot of the legwork in adapting it to fit controller play games from the slower pace, floatier, deliberate movement and the way the AI works. It all makes the game less focused on simply aiming fast making it more playable on controllers without compromising on 360 degree combat and still keeping it fun to play on mkb.
A good example of a ruined game is FEAR 2. Just check it out and compare to the original. You'll notice how every single encounter in the game is designed the same way. Plenty of warning when enemies appear, they always spawn in front of you so you never have to turn more than 45 degrees to aim at them and the AI is now incredibly basic and will never ever flank you. All this to try and maintain a similar gameplay style and feel to the original while making it controller friendly but it falls flat.

Sure. In original Doom, the combat and levels are all about navigation, reacting to enemies and seeking out items in a dynamic fashion. You're essentially always in the action and the game plays by the same strict rules at all times. Shooting is the main way you interact with enemies and often the only way to avoid damage is to use cover and stunlock enemies with your shots.
In nu-Doom, the focus is shifted entirely to arena style encounters, "roaming" enemies practically don't exist and when they appear they're only there to act as set dressing.
You never get ambushed, never have to pay attention to the level design or layout outside of secrets and battle arenas. You no longer interact with the game world in a meaningful way within the core gameplay mechanics, just like in most action games.
Everything is in the arena battles, where you're given incentive to "combo" enemies with multiple weapons. You're presented with challenges not as a dynamic part of the level, but as a closed off individual combat or platforming events.
Interacting with enemies is the main way to refill your ammo, armor and health. They're no longer dangerous obstacles, fighting them is exclusively the main event.
Then there's all the little things like enemies and projectiles slowing down when off-screen. Secrets containing permanent upgrades just like in DMC with purchasable attacks and health bar extensions.
The challenge rooms where you have to complete some silly combat encounter to receive a permanent upgrade of some kind.

So this just feeling out my memory and I'm not doing headcounting, but it seems like a strong trend even in PC gaming, if the enemy shoots, it's slow or stands still especially when shooting. If the enemy melees only then does it move quickly. I can't remember many examples of multiplayer style opponents that strafe and shoot or anything, of course a lot probably exist, especially flying enemies, but to say they are typical in PC games is brow raising. But I'm confident this idea that PC enemies don't commonly stand still is just bullshit. And I haven't given a shit about console FPS since halo, but it's also consistent with my description and conventional. The elites will juke laterally, the sword elites and flood will chase you and leap. It works because of the strong aim assist.

You should try some custom .wads like Scythe 2, Ancient Aliens or Sunlust to really see the insane gameplay you can create with the basic elements of Doom's weapon and monster design.
Yeah enemy movement is one of the most unexplored aspects of fps even on PC but you can at least see in most modern retro shooters that the elite variant of the soldiers will strafe back and forth. You have the blobs in quake that boomers raged about. In og doom enemies will zigzag and caco demons will float off when shot which really only affects rockets and plasma but still. But yeah other than ultrakill and robobeat I haven't really seen many enemies that jump around the stage and stuff.
OG Unreal does some pretty cool stuff with the Skaarj and how they jump around, they will even pretend to be dead to kill you

The first Unreal comes to mind with fast moving and strafing enemies.
My example with FEAR was mostly about how enemies liked to flank and throw grenades, but all that aggression was removed in FEAR 2. And what's common in modern shooters is to have paper enemies so they're easy to kill with your full auto weapons, while giving you regenerating health so you're not punished for being slow.
Either that, or giving the player ultra mobility and projectiles only so you can avoid damage forever by running around real fast so you can take your time safely killing the enemies.
What really gets me in general is the trend of "faux speed" where it appears incredibly fast but in reality you have as much time as you want since nothing ever actively threatens you.
Even worse in multiplayer shooters like Warzone or Apex where players move fast as fuck but it doesn't matter because the game aims for you. God help you if you're on mkb and have to keep up with it yourself, though.

Don't be a retard. The originals did not have a jump because of self-imposed technical limitations to make sure the game could run on the potatoes of its day. In place of a jump they provided an extreme sprint speed with a rather floaty fall rate so that platforming could still be in done. Unless Dark Ages provides the same thing, which would also require some intricate level design like the originals, which Dark Ages has not shown any sign of having, then the no jump is not "a return to form."

The combat is the main event? Yes, that makes sense... Your entire post reads like an overly elaborate cope that ultimately boils down to "maze like level design better than arena style level design". Nightmare and UN where you can die from a couple of attacks is still challenging and fun despite the arena structure. There are still secrets and items to find. When you are playing the game the first few times you still have the tension of wondering which room will throw demons at you. And for the record I do still wish 16 and Eternal had had far more unexpected monster encounters in between arenas, or perhaps even no arenas at all and a similar level design approach as the prior games, but I still love 16 and Eternal.

Doom has always been for casuals. No jump is fine though double jump is fun. Dark ages looks like shit and is degenerate but making it easier isn't a bad thing. Games need to be playable by anyone, including people that haven't played a single one before. Making them a scene and inaccessible is stupid. Nobody needs to get good at mouse or twin stick aiming either, such systems shouldn't exist.
