Like the Switch Pro controller has more buttons than the Gamecube controller, so naturally the Gamecube controller's gonna be somewhat handicapped when trying to play Switch games.

If you're talking about the Smash Ultimate GC controller, that was an actual GC controller with the old connector. It needed the adapter for the Switch, but it could also be plugged into a real GC or Wii to play GC games.

This is the only 3rd party controller that I would recommend. Lasts for weeks on a single charge, has a wired and wireless option + an adaptor that connects to the classic GC ports. The sticks are hallmark and the back triggers have depth settings. It's quite nice if a little pricey. The Nintendo licensed GC controllers that were released for the Switch suffered stick drift within months and the thumb pads wore off shortly after even with relatively low use.
