The color coded slow projectiles you can deflect is really the only thing I think looks dumb in the game. I do not mind the slower pace because 1. its classic Doom for you to be grounded and only really have strafing to worry about for dodges and 2. I never played the past couple of games. So to me this game looks fine. I know its not exactly like classic Doom since there is still jumping but the speed just doesn't really bother me it looks like how I would imagine a 3D Doom 1 and 2 would have played assuming gameplay was largely unchanged.

Seems disingenuous. Don't they let you configure enemy aggression and combat/projectile speed? If those are default values then that's one thing, but it still looks more fun than the hotkey slopfest Eternal turned out to be
Doom was great because it was simple, maybe even Dead Simple.
The combat and movement basics were easy to understand and perform, but if you wanted you could increase the difficulty and have to move and kill things faster and with more thought so as to not get killed.
As a result, Doom can be incredibly difficult depending on the map, enemy types, enemy numbers, and weapons/items available, but it still will never get complicated.
These games are the exact opposite. They push complicated puzzle-like movement and combat, and the difficulty comes from the designers throwing annoyances in your way that stop you from executing the puzzle-like weapon switching and unique counters to each enemy.
Never again will you hear an enemy sound and, already having your SSG out, confidently race towards it to blast its guts out.

It's a fantastic game, bullet hell rogue-like where everytime you die your playthrough restarts and you have a new arrangement of the same level to go through. Each time weapons spawn in different areas as do different items that give you boosts. But the order is changed every time much like other rogue likes as is the enemy groupings. There's 2 different stages of 3 levels that you can choose to start, once you complete the first 3 you start playing through the second, more difficult loop with vastly different levels some of which remix levels you already went through but with very different environments.
It's honestly one of the most underrated games this generation, a ton of fun, difficult enough to keep you trying with every playthrough but once you learn the bosses they actually become very easy. The normal standard enemies that can kill you in a few hits in each playthrough are what make it so hard if you go into a room unprepared.

The ssg spread makes it ineffective against chaingunners from even a short distance since they will stagger then instantly turn and hitscan you, also even close range if there is more than one they will all turn and shoot and you will be defenseless since you have to watch the reload at minimum before firing again or switching which also takes extra time. Chaingun is basically made to counter them being hitscan and low spread.
This is all from my own experience trying to do different wads no hit on uv BTW.

enemies should have much farther engagement ranges and be more aggressive with how much they're shooting you; you should be obligated to take cover or turn into a smoking piece of swiss cheese if you're up against 5+ enemies
give enemies actually defensible positions with hard cover, MG nests, peepholes, traps/mines and the ability to fire/throw explosives at you from completely behind cover
even if enemies were to lose sight of you they should be putting down suppressive fire in your last known location
make AI less retarded (I have no simple solution for this though I will say little tricks like the callouts that FEAR used at least give players the illusion the AI is much smarter than it is)
compounding on the above: make enemies actually used tactics like pincer maneuvers, flushing you out of cover with explosives, tossing flashbangs into rooms before entering them, shoot&scoot, retreating, laying small ambushes, laying their own traps, suicide bombs, etc
a bunch of these things were in older games (HL1 comes to mind) but a lot of modern FPS games have truly retarded "AI" that might as well just be training dummies that take cover on a timer

I would almost say it's a great design wasted on an early level (so you only fight like 4 enemy types there).

projectiles need to be fast and a lot of them. they reduced both of those factors to make them parryable and weave-able.
Put more enemies that scan player's hit points and subtract it if it's positive value.
Doom 2016 actually rekindled Doom's popularity which trended upward with Eternal whereas Halo shot itself in the foot with 4 and they never settled on a clear direction after that. Also nuDoom is innovative and trendsetting whereas 343 Halo is always trend chasing.
I doubt every single projectile in the game is slow. Just the larges parryable ones. Also, just like eternal, I doubt this gameplay will extend beyond one game, so god forbid we get something a little different from every other DPS slop out there every once in a while.
This would look one million times less lame if there weren't specific color coded projectiles you "had to" deflect and could simply deflect any of them. I'd rather have to deflect three of them in quick succession to stagger that demon instead of deliberately picking and walking to the special one out of the lot alone to get the stagger.

Nah it happens too. I beat the game only using glory kills selectively. Plus you’ve still got health packs on the map and chain saw as a back up, you really don’t have to glory kill all that often if you don’t want to.
dark souls combat influence isnt always a good thing as path of exile 2 showed you cant just copy shit into different genres especially considering that many kinda forget (including from soft) what makes dark souls games actually good, its the level design, atmosphere and mobs not necessarily bossfights that one shot you with counter damage during your attacks. Metal Eden looks like a fine Eternal-like, but robots/cyborgs just aren't as fundamentally fun to shoot as aliens or demons.

Maybe? In that situation I could've dropped a grenade (any kind) or switched to CG with shield and dashed out while shooting. Overall, I like to play aggressively and at close range in DE because the game allows me to.
