Valves secret "console" is just a off the shelf parts pc with a discrete GPU and a sata hard drive

valves secret "console" is just a off the shelf parts pc with a discrete GPU and a sata hard drive.

This doesn't look like a VR headset.

Doubt. Most likely they are going to use an iGPU or maybe a laptop dGPU. I would bet that they would use an iGPU and probably the same on as the deck integrated to a more powerful cpu and overclocked since power draw won't be an issue.A discrete GPU that can play new games costs as much as a console, and they want to market a console.

”this… is a resonance cascade…”

entire thread was just the same joke ripped from xitter, not the other way around

”valve’s secret console”

expect it to be another xitter thread

its a youtube video

you third world niggers

That's from 7 years ago and they already abandoned it.

it's a real leak though

Unlike the Steam Machines released in the mid-2010s, this build uses now-outdated components: an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 processor, a Radeon RX 580 GPU, and 8 GB of RAM

so just like all other modern consoles?

It's the backpack you wear to power the new VR headset, weighing just 50lbs it's fully portable and powerful enough to run premium VR experiences as long as you have a good extension cord (sold separately, the default cable is only just long enough for a 6ft tall person to stand upright)

I wonder what would make a headless Steam Machine successful in 2025 when there was zero interest 10+ years ago.
The deck is a cringe techtoy but even that distinguished itself for being a good handheld computer with robust inputs and extendibility.

it's not a leak you dumb faggot
it's a very old prototype that never came to fruition

valve didn't make steam machines. it was third parties like alienware etc

literal indian engagement disinformstion bait thread, v is turning into twitter

desktop os when

AMD Ryzen 5 1400 processor, a Radeon RX 580 GPU, and 8 GB of RAM

Replace the cpu with the R5 3600, the gpu with the RX 6700xt, put in 1TB nvme ssd, install the steamOS on it and bam you got a $400 entry desktop PC that can run every game.

Today they have RADV and Arch based SteamOS. Anyone can make a headless steam machine as long as they own AMD GPU from 2013 or later. Ideally you would have RDNA2 like 6800XT or better to match the featureset of Deck.

isn't that just a ps5 without exclusives? what's the point?

If it can play unreal engine porn games then I shall buy it.

nobody wants that

a ps5 is extremely locked down last i checked. you cant even play ps1 emulator or ps2. my phone can.

Man, did you even watch the video.
It's a pc for supposedly wireless vr headset, like they worked on wireless connection for vr headsets around that time, or invested in the tech, don't remember the details.

they are not going to bother with a desktop os and all the support shit that would come with it. linux isn't hard, there must be a thousand looks and behaves like windows distros by now.

It is, but you can play your steam library on it and use it as proper desktop computer.

They are ready for a desktop release except it only works on AMD/Intel. Nvidia is completely broken on Linux and Windows yet theyre 75% marketshare on Steam ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I think the last time I price checked the 6700xt it was 320 dollars by itself.
t. stuck with rx 580

yeah but if steam is baked into the os it'll use less resources

no modern console uses a dedicated GPU or SATA interface

Found one at 215€ right now.
Volvo can buy them cheaper from amd.
9060xt would be the better choice or ever 9070.

You are thinking about a discrete video card. Dedicated graphics processing unit can be just the amd gpu chip in the ps5.

There’s a place for it, judging from the experience of a deck. All the benefits of a pc with a simple, attractive console OS. It would be a hard sell though, unless they went balls to the walls and developed a bunch of great exclusives along with a major ad campaign. I don’t think they care enough

He's right tho. Gamemode is nothing but Steam Big Picture mode which means there's no underlying desktop taking up resources.

?

The PS5 isn’t priced competitively like the 360 and PS3 were in 2012. Steam has many times more users. Every game gets a PC port now. Proton works for basically everything.

steam on windows is nothing more than a chromium app. steamos gamescope functions like the actual os dwm compositor.

Like does it matter that it takes less resources? The benefit as i understood is that gamescope can do some things that it cannot do otherwise.

HGST

Looks fake to me.

If valve wanted to they could probably dominate the video game industry right now. The amount of mindshare they already have without spending a cent on advertising or having any retail partners is mind blowing. Imagine if Valve sold a loss leader consolized box in Walmart next to the PS5 except it’s cheaper, runs more games and doesn’t ask you to pay $120 in internet rent to play multiplayer games.

Name 3

What's the point of this? A cheaper PC alternative with a lighter operating system?
...a modern budget PC but built by Steam?

PS5

exclusives

pick one

omg look at this 5-6 years old prototype not having branded parts and the latest Goyvidia GTX9000

Steamies status: OWNED

Meanwhile I can play PC games, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Switch games on my Deck.
