Instead of realizing that they needed a reason for their 150 million user base to switch console (by holding the new Pokemon hostage on it), they tried to get high initial sales for the software on Switch and also get throughput sales through those getting a Switch 2, either those that would get it fresh, OR those that would get the "upgrade". Their idea is that eventually, those 150 million will leap over, pay AGAIN and they get money for doing essentially nothing. It is honestly really disgusting that their anti-consumer practices have gotten to this point.

Assuming the console performs as advertised, I'll probably by it for 60fps Pokémon. Either way, it definitely seems to be advertised as a luxury good rather than a complete replacement for the Switch 1, at least for now.
