I love the small CG movies in SC1. It shows you the life of the average guy in the universe. Expands the conflict beyond the main characters. Some vids are fun (HIYYYAHHHHH), some are awesome (got your zerg right here) and you get one every 3 missions. BW already fucked up making them rarer and focussing on main characters, although dearest helena is cool. WC3 only gave you end of champaign CGs for ROC and only 2 for TFT.

I don't even really dislike current WoW, but for me, the end of the "true" era of Warcraft was the end of Lich King, with the death of Arthas

Still, NE got it so much worse than any other race it's not even funny. I don't know how any WC3 Nelf fan could have ever been happy with their representation in WoW.

Its not well optimized or very good graphics, just masterful art direction. Everything is clearly readable, the move towards more cartoony graphics make the potato faces look fine, the deft application of particle effects make things look very cool even if they're simple (like the lightning on the altar of storms), masterful animations and sounds making the attacks feel impactful and the move to fewer models in game with the lower pop count nad higher pop per unit relieved some pressure on the system as well.
You can see the same with WOW. Simple graphics but the cartoony artstyle and really good animations let it last. Every WOWkiller thought that weak graphics was a weakness, and they all had better graphics, but ironically they all look worse 20 years later than WOW.

WC3 orcs are weird in general. You have skulls hanging from the watch towers. a chopped off human hand as your cursor, a warrior culture that thrives off of conflict, yet they're supposed to be good boys that were corrupted.

WOW making more money than god fucked them up. I also think that companies that want to make the perfect game (when its ready) like valve or blizzard couldnt handle the larger teams and more complex coding post 2005 games demanded of them.

The old versions don't connect to battle.net anymore, so the only way to play custom games on old versions of wc3 is through LAN or some tools that let you use LAN over the internet with friends.
On reforged wc3 you can play and host custom games and there are players. But if you do get reforged, turn on Classic graphics in the settings. The new reforged graphics are really bad and make the game hard to look at. If you already own classic WC3 on your battle.net account, you don't even have to buy reforged; you can just install it and play. You won't have the option to use the new graphics then, but those are really bad anyway compared to classic. Also, hiveworkshop.com has a lot of custom maps you can download.

I think you should be able to register the CD keys on your account. The option might be hidden somewhere in the classic games section when you log in to battle.net on a browser. Try googling it.

After attaching your RoC key to your Bnet account, log into Bnet in offline mode and install Reforged. Afterwards log back in and you will be able to play Reforged with the Reforged options forcibly turned off lol

I think the issue with reforged models isn't the models themselves, they actually are pretty good, but it's just they do not fit at all Wc3 and it's old ass engine, they are way too detailed. Honestly I'm surprised the old engine even can keep using those

Youre right. The models are fine as a showcase for your modeling skill for some job application. But they just dont fit WC3 at all, they dont work well for an RTS, they had to bridge the gap between WOW's shitty artstyle and WC3's artstyle etc. HOTS's alterac valley map has priest and rifleman models that fit 10x better. Same with the hero models. What was needed above all was an art director with a strong vision. Not a sweatshop that can shit out good models in isolation.

I think it's the proportions. Reforged models are realistically proportioned so identifying or humanizing features are reduced to unidentifiable pixels and all the silhouettes are dogshit

Can I play this on ladder?

The models are a bit lanky from a topdown view since the cash shop had to show them headon. But they're very good and the animation is godtier. Every attack and move has a lot of stretch and impact frames. Every character, especially orphea, has a ton of unique animations that really make the attacks feel good. Their entire body leans into attacks or spell casts. If that team was put on reforged it wouldve been godlike. Reforged just looks cheap since it is a bunch of modeling software pretty models that dont work for the game at all.
Arthas was an older model but they had a new one ready, alongside a remake that was 90% done.

Reforged clearly was a C team, if not lesser, I wish the team that did the diablo 2 remaster worked on it

Games Workshop similarity accusations don't work on anyone who knows that Warhammer 40,000 is literally a ripoff of Dune. They avoid threatening or suing anyone who knows this.

I would argue that the bandits in the Human Campaign were likely related to the Cult of the Damned. Case in point they serve to distract Arthas (chronic hero syndrome) from arriving to Strahnbad on time (leader is a dark mage). They also attack the Village (during Jaina's investigation) after the Cult gets cut off from the bridge being destroyed. They're also hanging about in the following mission, again with the cult of the Damned right there. Reminder that canonically the necromancers and Acolytes are still human, hoping to eventually become undead. Similarly Arthas is still alive and human though soulless and under Nerzhul's influence for the undead campaigns.

I enjoyed all 3 SC2 games and no amount of mad people on Anon Babble will make me feel otherwise. Last good campaigns and RTS has ever had and probably ever will have.

A lot of Bandit groups and the early cult of the Damned were former members of the Human Kingdom Lordaeron destroyed in the Warcraft 2 campaign. Furthermore the Alliance as of War3 was falling apart due to debts from the War, disagreements on what to do with the Horde, and the Elves being dicks. It was mostly Lordaeron and Kul Tiras actually invested in keeping the Alliance together. The Kirin Tor were more focused on general stability and containing the plague by any means necessary but they also overlooked the threat of the Burning Legion.

A combination of the right time and perfect storm of a game being released with enough tools and fun aspects to it to create an environment where competitive and casual players alike could enjoy the game without being forced to play with each other. The campaign mode is also just genuinely fun and while I think Starcraft has better writing, WC3 has some of the most fun mission variety of any Blizzard RTS imo.

All of the no-build missions in the Human Campaign tended to feel like a carefully choreographed script by the Lich King. If you play through the first mission, it's kind of ridiculous how many problems happen to keep Arthas from arriving to the Town on time (Gnolls kidnap child, Bandit Ambush, Bandit attack on Farmer). Comparatively the Undead Campaign has Arthas laser focused in every mission and if you go out of your way not to, then you get Tichondrius to tell you to stop fucking around.
Thrall feels more like he's choosing battles, picking up new member races along the way. Night Elf campaign feels like you're desperately trying to preserve the wilds (and failing) like with the Furbolgs.

They had this whole idea of NE that you could either play with AOW units (T3 upgrades like marksmanship and moon glaives to keep them up to date) or with animal units. But AOW units suck so all NE can just do is rush bears and enjoy nice unit upgrades since they arent spread across melee/ranged like with other factions. But instead useless/useful

The upkeep system was actually a very smart take on unit populations due to the dynamic it created among players. In Starcraft, maek moar yuunit is always the correct choice, whereas in WC3 there are legitimate strategic reasons to go to each population cap threshold.

Because they have the unarmored armor type, which causes them to take extra damage from piercing and siege damage.
Since warcraft 3 is dominated by ranged focus fire, they get destroyed by the likes of rifles and crypt fiends.

Hero units (and by extension creeping) was a needed breath of fresh air to the tired RTS genre.
Empire Earth also had hero units but it didn't stray from full focus on economy or early rushing.

Creeping changes the way you play the game because now military becomes a way to get more gold and hero units incentivize that route even more since you want to unlock their powers and get good items for them.

Funnily enough, the patch history on elves seems to be mostly nerfs, a buff, then a reversal of the buff and further nerfs.

Archers went from frail DPS to somewhat more tanky but nerfed damage, to frail and weak with a niche survivability buff.

Yeah, I noticed that too. The human units especially feel way too "retail WoW"—they’ve got none of the chunky, stylized charm the originals had. Knights looking like Stormwind guards from BfA and Footmen with those weird proportions and overly ornate armor just doesn’t fit Warcraft 3’s aesthetic at all. yourArthas keeps pumping that stuff out because it looks "HD" but it has zero soul compared to Samwise’s stuff or even base game modded units. SC2 kitbashes feel way more fitting in comparison, honestly.
