It feels weird to say I'm a zelda fan so I usually don't because I've played a lot of the older 2D zeldas and enjoyed them but I've played pretty much none of the big 3D zeldas like wind waker, twilight princess, skyward sword, botw, totk, or even OoT. It sucks the new 2D zeldas have no soul left

EoW has its flaws, but it's still ultimately a splendid game.
I really hope the 360 degrees movement and jumps stay in the next game. Also, the on-summon attacks of a lot of the echoes were really satisfying. Even compared to the best of Link's gear of past games.

They are obsessed with "do anything, go anywhere, no contraints" design philosophy ever since Aounuma played Skyrim. That idea isn't so great in practice and Echoes of Wisdom shows it. Giving people unlimited options and freedom makes them do the easiest route possible (water blocks and the same few echoes)
BOTW's design overstayed it's welcome with TOTK and EOW showed the same formula does not work for the 2d games

BOTW introduced the physics engine and TOTK pushed it to the limit. Everything outside of the building and shrines is very lackluster though. I genuinely believe they have done everything they can with the formula already.

I would completely disagree. I liked that they included caves, which let's be honest, was a glaring absence from BOTW. The game has you revisiting the same areas with little difference from the first game except for the story-mode areas. The exploration in the depths was abysmal and a whole lot of nothing. Most of the sky areas were the same few templates with little variation.

I think the reason the Link's Awakening remake was designed the way it was was because they wanted stronger parity with the original Gameboy assets. They could have done something more comparable to A Link Between Worlds, but that would have required for them to alter the in-game designs since ALBW is overall more detailed than LA was. By using a toy-like aesthetic, it's easy to convert those old Gameboy sprites to a modern HD one.
I think a lot of people wanted more of a true re-imagining of Link's Awakening, but what we got was a Gameboy game in HD.
