It's not unusual, it's a handheld system with moving parts.
Even if you treat the system well, just moving it around over time will unseat the fan and it'll get misaligned. It's only a cheap plastic thing.
I had to send my OG Switch into Nintendo to get it serviced, thankfully it was free and painless.
The fan issue can cause the system to overheat, and shut off. It disrupted a couple TotK play sessions.
