Why does Anon Babble hate HDR so much?

I don't notice it. The most recent game I played that had the option was monster hunter wilds and I just can't see much of a difference. I feel like I didn't set this monitor up right or something.

Most monitors that support HDR aren't HDR monitors. You actually have to put a lot of effort into finding HDR monitors that are actually HDR.
It's kind of like how back in the day people used to say "Full HD monitor" in their advertising but you look at the pixel count and it was 1366x768

Most games have broken HDR implementation, Days Gone is one of the few games with really good HDR, Nvidia added RTX HDR which is actually superior to the native HDR in many games

Check HDR calibration in windows display settings. However also a lot of PC monitors sold as supporting HDR accept the signal, but don't actually have significant range or peak brightness to notice an improvement

It's degenerate. Costs performance and doesn't increase visual quality. Games made for it looks like shit with or without it. Xbox's 12 bit colour depth is better. Probably post process colour depth conversion. Doesn't dull the scene.

HDR came with Half Life 2, one of the worst games of all time, an extra level for it. Devs were stupid and had nothing to offer. "HDR" impressive to them. How they competed with far superior engines and visuals offering good design.

"HDR" is a deliberate attempt to make people buy newer and inferior TVs, OLED is defective, has burn in, needs replacement quickly, has become what is sold primarily. Has input lag several times longer than render budjets. They are shit. And phased out 3D for no reason. People wasting money makes them poor, it degrades their lives, there are better things to spend money on. Console hardware costing more would be better than a worse tv. Generations not held back for a decade every time some piece of shit is made the target spec, or what better games are downgraded to run on.

Higher resolutions have done a lot to destroy games.

Upscaling would be better use of pixels, or CRT filters, but the scum want those pixels, and fuckup cancer like HDR. Don't care that it costs quality. Just want to feel superior. I love it, but I also did my research and bought an actual HDR monitor instead of some meme scam with marketing letters on the box.
The biggest issue is the most people don't actually know what HDR is, through no fault of their own. The letters have been so thoroughly abused by marketers that and discussion of "HDR" can have up to 6 different definitions and interpretations.

I've got a 1k oled monitor and I never use hdr. it just washes everything out and makes my monitor so bright it hurts my eyes. such a stupid feature
