Even developing a program/service that can accurately translate the nuances, dialect, slang, etc. of virtually any conversation real-time is something I don't think's going to happen for at least a couple of decades longer than your estimate.
Works fine for translating scripts instead of paying tranny localizers though, that's what EOPs who don't want to learn should keep pushing for the hardest.

Core6k is whack because it just gives you seemingly random vocab with little thought or progression.
Mining your own vocab is actually helpful because you'll be doing it while reading/watching/playing whatever media you want to learn and engage with.
I think I'd still suggest tango up to N4 for newbies just to get some foundational vocab for convos, but for anyone that isn't dead set on actually taking the JLPT there's no reason to fall for the core6k meme.

pro tip: if you for example have a word that you want to mine, list also the words related to the kanji inside that word to create connections in your mind. It really helps with retention. I can't recommend it if you don't know any words related to the kanji though unless you are sure that you can remember them.

I already knew 音痴 and 漢字 and so I reinforce this connection every time I see 痴漢

The thing that seems to be working the most is the immersion strategy, read something as far as you can, find something you aren't familiar with, find out what it means, put it into your study materials and review when needed.

How do I mine? I'm guessing there are templates or something like that but I'm more interested in adding audio to the cards, which is the one advantage I see in pre-built decks. And how do you select the words you want to mine? Because, when reading an unfamiliar text it's very tempting to just practically add every word there which results in a giant deck.
