just starting my first baldur's gate playthrough. what's the best race and why?
Just starting my first baldur's gate playthrough. what's the best race and why?
orc
bard
just starting
Already metafagging
Go have fun retard. You can respec if you brick your build
From a gameplay perspective it's probably Githyanki, due to all the race specific gear they get. I personally think you should pick one of the Origin characters, because you get extra scenes based on who you're playing.
Gender: Female
Race: Seldarine drow
Class: Life cleric/Swords bard
Deity: Eilistraee
I will not elaborate further.
Tiefling solo adventurer who gets raped and brainwashed by goblins.
Play as default Dark Urge Dragonborn. It's a better character design than anything you could ever make plus the best way to experience the game.
wood elf
what's the best race
Formula 1
best race depends on your class
Is there a way to bang all the chicks in this game during one playthrough? Seems like I get locked out of my harem after I sleep with one.
none of the races are really bad, but there are mediocre race/class combos. short races make for bad melee because their movement is shit.
most relevant thing is the natural proficiencies that races get. hoomans get shield proficiency which is pretty clutch because other races will have to dip a multiclass level into some garbage to get it otherwise. same with elves and bows. githyanki get medium armor proficiency. as the other anon said githyanki are probably the best overall for anything that doesn't do spells
but it really doesn't matter that much
Like in all RPGs
human
male
fighter (sometimes cleric)
Drow Male
Ranger with a Spider companion
Yep, it's gaming time.
If you absolutely have to metafag about it, go Githyanki, Gnome, or Halfing. They get the best racial bonuses
On honor mode I couldn't bring myself to be anything but halfling to push the critical failure chance down to 1 in 160,000.
S tier
Orc for melee build due to their extra crit die
Half-wood elf get all the benefit of human and elf + extra move range
Gith for race specific gears and advantage on skills of your chosing
Shit tier
All of the short races due to penalty to their movement
Dragon because their bonus is trash
Patch 8 fucking when
just join the beta
never
Duergar.
unlimited free invisibility
thick with +2con and poison resistance (the most common elemental type)
enlarge to get big I guess
Start bg3
select human
for some reason gives me some mostly ape hybrid
What did they mean by this i just wanna play a hunan????
I want to be a monk but I wouldn't even know how to build a viable one.
life
imagine playing a healcuck spec in a game where you need an offhealer at most
White, because it's right
2 lvl life cleric/X lvl swords bard is good and sustainable enough.
The most braindead way is take Tavern Brawler, use Str potion for STR bonus while bumping DEX and WIS and just punch shit. Extra spice with berserker mix in.
Shadowmonk is also fun but is harder to use
Duergar get unlimited uses of invisibility, a once per rest enlarge, superior darkvision, and advantage on saves against charm and paralysis which are two of the most deadly effects in the entire game
But really, you should just stop reading after UNLIMITED INVISIBILITY
It's HILARIOUSLY overpowered, you can play a fucking plate armor wearing paladin and still sneak better than a rogue because NOTHING CAN DETECT YOU EVER
I'm honestly amazed nobody mentioned them yet
for any caster, the best race is human or half elf for shield proficiency.
I'm honestly amazed nobody mentioned them yet
I signed up for the beta in january and still havent gotten in.
Sunlight was in my eyes I couldn't read it
All you need is the Tavern Brawler feat. Gives you +10 fists at 20 strength. Plus you can make bonus action attacks with your other fist. Can take the Thief subclass from Rogue for and extra bonus action so you can make 4 attacks.
Recommend Githyanki since they have innate medium armor proficiency and armor doesn't stop you from using any monk abilities besides Unarmored Movement. But it doesn't really matter. Tavern Brawler is over powered.
Gnome
Anything
super op
dwarves still rarely played because no one wants to be a manlet or ugly so elves and humans are still the most popular
hahahahaha
Githyanki, but if you plan to use Lae'zel there might not be enough good race-specific gear for the both of you.
Otherwise Wood Elf for movement speed, is quite nice.
OP trying to racebait
(most) people are just genuinely discussing the game instead
Sometimes this board is alright
Is Eldritch Knight as OP as in the tabletop?
OP trying to racebait
? how. that's the default character
Anon asked for what's best, not what's most popular
Depend, are you okay with only using buffs spells?
No.
It is kinda dogshit, but is still decent because Fighter is the best class in BG3.
Still, having some utility spells is always really nice. But you might as well just Wizard Dip, instead.
what's the best race
white
I know, I was just pointing out that it's funny.
No, it's dog shit. Fighter is still insanely strong in BG3. But you may as well just play Fighter with Wizard dip instead of that garbage.
Missing all those level 1 & 2 spells that weren't in the core book so not really. Plus the level cap is 12 so you'll miss out on 3rd level spells.
But it's fine. I just use it for Shield. Though the limited spells slots actually end up coming into play since the game has 2 short rests per long rest rather than the tabletop where it's often all long rests.
Thrower EK is kinda broken, but that’s just because throwing is broken in bg3 due to how tavern brawler works.
elves for their +3ft movement
You may as well just play a Battle Master and equip the Amulet of Harpers since the only really good thing Eldritch Knights have is Shield
Better yet just play a Hexblade or a Bladesinger
African American
Lowest INT but highest swag
what if i play wrong though
Halfling barbarian.
White Male Fighter.
there's a mod for that
there's even a mod that turns the cleric slut into a trad girl if you follow the good path
it's been removed from nexus for being sexist tho
Half wood elf is the meta fag race for movement and half orc for crit fishing.
Drow (spider bitch edition) gith and dark dwarf have the most reactions (around 300) with tief and deep gnome coming in at 3rd with about 140ish lines.
you can respec for very cheap at any time after the very start, and unless you’re playing on honour mode, it doesn’t matter.
All of the short races due to penalty to their movement
Can the short races all fit through those tiny crevices and pipes into areas without a spell or potion? If not then what is the positive trade-off of ever picking a short race?
One Race, The Human Race.
basado
Race doesn't matter, class doesn't really matter, your choices don't matter. Nothing in the game matters. The entire game is the lowest quality netflix/daytime television dialogue imaginable that constantly disrespects the setting and the player's intelligence. The stark contrast between this game and a game like icewind dale is like black and white.
Gnomes are pretty good, because failing an important saving throw is one of the few ways you can die. The lost mobility isn’t as important if you aren’t playing melee.
It's still funny to me they made Chromie trans because they fucked up with their own naming tradition and pretended it was intentional much later.
They can.
But like some anons said the short races have the best passives in the game with gnomes having adv on saving throws and stealth, duergar having adv on saving throws and free invis and enlarge, and halfings having the ability to basically never critically fail unless you're incredibly unlucky.
human
paladin
You are playing 3, not a Baldur's Gate playthrough. Dumb child.
Paladin is pretty boring desu, just smite spam. They even got cucked out of their best smite by bard. Sorcerer is way cooler.
Wood elf or half wood elf. Darksight and extra movement are great.
to be fair to the ruleset, that is by design. it's harder to add compounding minmax optimizations to make your character completely retardedly op, and it's also harder to brick your character because you didn't take a specific feat or whatever. i'm not going to say this is a good thing because it's not, but it does make the ruleset less frustrating and convoluted for new players, and also better for mixed groups of power gamers and casual roleplayers.
the infinity engine games were never good.
Fighter is the best class in BG3
Monk, Bard, Sorc and Cleric are better.
Monk: More single target damage
Bard: More utility and control
Sorc: More Aoe Damage
Cleric: Way more useful
bard
Why in the ever loving fuck would anyone ever play as a bard?
Also bard isn't a race, it's a class.
Non-metafag answer
Pick whatever you want. Racials aren't as strong as in 5e.
Metafag answer
Depends on what you want to do. If you want to make a marshal it really doesn't matter, but avoid short characters unless you have guaranteed longstrider on you or a party member. Duergar dwarves can skip some encounters but you can only really do it if you know where they are beforehand. Wood elves give bonus movement which is nice but kinda whatever later on.
For casters it matters a bit more. Shields are really good early on and throughout the whole game so picking a race with those is a good option. Armor is also ok for the early game but there's so many good mid and lategame robes you won't use armor much. The gnome saving throw racial is good if you min max for your specific caster stat. Drow can go be you hand crossbow proficiency so you always have a free shitty bonus action attack if you give up the bonuses on whatever stat stick bow you don't want to use.
Worth noting that any free cantrip or spells you get from any race are tied to a specific stat regardless of your class. You can check the good bg3 wiki for info if you care.
Bard is absolutely disgustingly good and multiclasses perfectly with everything.
Yeah but halflings can’t roll a crticial failure, so there’s that to consider
Playing as a bard is pure faggotry.
There's no BB/GFB so not really.
it really is quite broken, at least swords bard is. after 2 years i thought they had fixed the "attack the same target twice" thing with slashing flourish but i guess not lol
dragonborn
uhhhhhhhh TES bros??????
Elf cause they're the cutest
Drow. All the benefits from elves, night vision and the freedom to blame all your evil choices on race. And believe me, you are going to want to make a few evil choices on this game without being hold accountable.
D&D is so fucking faggy
What are the best races/classes in terms of dialogue reactivity?
Bard and barbarian. Drow can be super racist.
Nobody wants to see your ugly AI slop, jeet
Halflings get Luck which is pretty nice; Gnomes also get a pretty useful racials. Githyanki aren't bad and they're a tall race (no movement penalty)
the funny thing is despite this Larian reports the ugly or manlet races got the least play.
If you like shadowheart, playing a selune cleric is really good for dialogue. You get a ton of dialogue options throughout the game to preach to her. It has some dialogue outside of shadowheart too.
D&D has changed the name from “race” to “species.” Please refer to the different species as such, and no longer use the outdated word. Thank you.
we should do that irl too
I don't know how it compares to the rest, but I did a Half-Orc playthrough months ago and there were quite a few options there for dialogue. Definetly more than my first playthrough with a half-elf character.
WotC has to read the room and see that this shit doesn't fly with normies anymore.
Drow or Tiefling
Barbarian or Bard or Cleric
I thought it changed to "lineage" (or was that pathfinder? I feel like that had "ancestry"). Considering that half-elves are fertile, wouldn't the term "species" be a misnomer?
We already do. Race is for different types of humans, not different creatures
I like the Warlock options. Dunno if other classes can do it but as a Great Old One Warlock you can commune with the Netherbrain in Moonrise Towers and it essentially tells you what it's going to do.
exactly
yet we call some creatures a different race of humans instead of a different species
Shame the game doesn’t acknowledge your character being so goddamn tiny more often
deep gnome
Why them specifically
Who the fuck at larian thought people want to play manlets
There's a niche circumstance for every race. Depends. Sometimes you pick a class to extrapolate the potential of the race, sometimes you pick a race to fulfill the full potential of a class. Races that give armor proficiencies absolutely change the game for wizards, for example.
Generally I'd say that humans are the weak link though in BG3. They're just half-elves but slightly worse in pretty much every way.
Elf faces in BG3 are grim as fuck.
Half-Elf faces are way better.
Is stalker ranger good in bg1 and 2?
Nigger dwarves are best for every class
Pass. Movement range sucks. Plus I just don't like pre-buffing before every fight. Bless is the only buff I care about.
Not really, shovel can do the invis cheese for you and lets you pick another class with better movement
I will not elaborate further.
You don't need to, we all know you're a homo
Yeah, but whether or not they're good, I don't want the nigger dwarf roleplay experience.
i gotta ask, what exactly is better about a system where it's easier to make a decent build and harder to make a bad one? how do your choices matter if the choice you're making is between a whole lot of wrong ones and a few correct ones? especially given that these kinds of RPGs tend to be like 50+ hours long and respeccing in this kind of game is a relatively recent development
new subclasses are released in a few days
Bladesinging looks so fucking fun
Eh, it's mid. Not good enough in melee, not good enough at range. I would go with Archer myself. Ranged combatants are busted, especially in BG1.
A tall male elf is by far the chaddest looking char in BG3 for some reason. They are sculpted like greek gods. Not sure if it aligns with FR lore.
Normies don't screech at WotC on social media because making a race of space monkeys that get kidnapped by a scientist sounds a little too much like slavery.
Being okay at both melee and ranged so that switching is easy was kinda the goal
Plus backstabbing is nice
Mostly just wanted to avoid playing fighter and use that one kinda cute elf portrait so no paladin
this
You want darkvision purely for convenience and the extra 5 feet of movement is very useful in this game.
Not a Lolth Drow Cleric of Lolth war domain
We're evil nigga, we're doing nefarious shit.
Oh shit, Hexblade is in.
Elf and half elf are both great, so is the underdark dwarf.
Almost all new subclasses look fucking sick.
tard rage so hard you become a giant
the update still hasnt come out
ok i really underestimated how long this would take
Mostly just wanted to avoid playing fighter and use that one kinda cute elf portrait so no paladin
Well, you can literally create your own portraits in this game, so that's not much of an issue.
Lolth doesn't have War portfolio, she's too chaotic for that. Also, fuck Lolth and her stupid evil girl posse, nice hippie girls with giant honking swords is where it's at.
I just wish there was a short race companion/love interest. Feels weird to be fucking a lanklet as a 5'5" king.
Eh, I would've preferred a shadow monk (a literal fucking ninja) and a Conquest paladin instead of Crown, because we need a legit Blackguard and Crown is just a spin on Devotion.
There was supposed to be one but she was cut for time. BG3 dev cycle is a mess.
Can you use booming blade on extra attacks?
It's actually kind of fun being a massive dick to everyone if you commit to it. Most of the characters in the game certainly deserve it
No, booming blade is a cantrip. You’re using a cantrip for the action instead of the normal attack.
Larian really likes to write asshole characters, don't they?
Well, you can literally create your own portraits in this game, so that's not much of an issue.
Nah I really like the derpy bg portrait look
Doesn't an offhand attack use bonus action?
Oh, I thought you meant like on fighter’s extra attacks. You still can’t use it on offhand bonus action extra attacks, because it’s a cantrip that specifically uses an action.
I wish the evil path had more going for it other than being a vicera obsessed mass murderer for the sake of it.
Yeah some of the friendly NPCs can be rude but that's no reason to slaughter them.
I am not that anon, I'm just theorycrafting.
Shadow monk is already in the game
It is too chadly that it looks silly.
The only benefit you get from the evil playthrough is the unique sex scene with Minthara and that's about it.
this game is boring as fuck prepare for the worst writing in history and 100 hours of missing, 10+ enemies turns that you cant speed up, your npcs getting ganked etc. dropped this shit in act 2 and only played it that long because it was co-op and i wanted to give it a fair shot
honorable 1v1 vs orin while you’re in slayer form is pretty kino
Not sure if it aligns with FR lore.
Depends on the writer and the edition. Sometimes elves look like greek gods, sometimes they are mongoloid manlets. Corellon himself can range from looking like an absolute gigachad to looking effeminite as fuck depending on the artist and current WotC political stance. 5e so far leans into "all elves look super-gay, so that we can appeal to our rainbow demographic some more".
I wish the Slayer form was more OP
It's not bad, but I wish it were better since you have to sacrifice a lot to get it
I liked the game a lot but when I think about it it was also unremarkable. I can't even remember which race I played as or a moment which really stuck with me. The cast was also quite poor aside from Shadowheart who I loved.
halfling who turns into a normal person when angry
Will be a kino run
Yeah, in the end, you can be more OP outside slayer than in it. It would be nice if you could build more for it since of it just being “good but not busted” regardless of what you do.
Honestly I am more looking forward to the next Divinity, surely Larian can afford to spend 10 years making it perfect after BG3 and it won't have dogshit 5e rules dragging it down.
aside from Shadowheart who I loved.
For me, Shadowheart is currently the blandest. I doesn't help that her character arc is an insane slow burn. She barely wants to talk about anything, and when she does, it's some generic zealot bullshit. But then the PC is tangentally nice to her so that she can tell you SOMETHING about herself and suddenly she wants to fuck you out of the blue.
I actually found Astarion and Gale to be the most interesting and likeable, but that's the voice actors doing the heavy lifting, not the writing.
what's the best race and why?
Depends on what class you want to play. Here are my favorite combos.
half-orc assassin 4/ranger 8
human wildheart bear/bear/stallion 10/rogue 2
wood elf open hand 9/thief 3
shield dwarf GoO 11/wizard 1
forest gnome knowledge cleric 11/monk 1
What's the point of Hexblade when there was already the pact of the blade?
Slayer's form was OP in BG2. And a bane of all demiliches.
Does BG3 even have a lich enemy?
Not the one you have picked.
all these replies without a schizo sperging out
actually good answers, talking about the actual game
Impressive, did I somehow ended up in bizarro Anon Babble ?
patron vs boon, you can be a hexblade with pact of the blade
Planning to start another playthrough when the patch drops
Want to try out some other shit I haven't done yet
Blade Wizard looks neat, don't really have a spot for Gale if I'm going to be the Wizard
Also want to do the Redeemed Durge story, only played as the Durge once before and went full murder hobo
Should I kill Gale?
Should I kill more than Gale? I do want to have some party members killed for RP reasons, but I'm not sure how much would be too much since I heard that the Redeemed Durge has some interesting companion interactions.
Hexblade is essentially a diet paladin. It turns you into a pure martial more realibly than the Pact of the Blade.

Best I can get you is a zombie dragon and a mummy lord
voice actors doing the heavy lifting
I adore Shadowheart's VA so that had a part to play.
Astarion and Gale
Astarion was alright but I disliked Gale. I was expecting Astarion to be the turbo homosexual but it was Gale instead.
*sad Vecna noises*
How lame.
Origin characters
Pleb
it's amazing that Larian put so much effort into coop and origin characters to the detriment of the whole game narrative, and then it turns out nobody plays as them.

Thanks
IIRC Hexblade can apply effects to offhand weapons, making dual-wielding Warlocks viable
Redeemed Durge is the best playthrough in BG3 though
you're gonna jinx it.
If DnD fringe rules apply then Halflings with the Lucky feat are very strong
I’ve never done redeemed durge. I’m gonna replay honour coop when patch 8 drops, so I’ll have to do that.
My question is - why isn't Durge the default main character? It would be consistent with other BG games at least. It's almost as if Larian reminded themselves they are doing the BG game and shoved in a pseudo-Bhaalspawn into the game at the last second.
Halfling
How do you feel about just never rolling a 1?
They commented on this during Alpha when default tav was more of a psychopath: they didn't want people to get deterred by the gorey and cruel content.
Given this was larians first try at a darker story with none of the whimsy of the divinity series.
i gotta ask, what exactly is better about a system where it's easier to make a decent build and harder to make a bad one?
if you're playing the game to do actual *roleplay* and you make your character building decisions based on that, then the game is more friendly to that. 5e is good at letting timmy and stacy join your table with characters they threw together in 30 minutes and still participate in a game where other people are playing more optimized characters.
i think it boils down to whether you think roleplay or number crunch is more important in tabletop RPGs. i think wotc considers the first more important, because again that's how you get stacy and timmy to play your game. i think wotc also figured out that these types generally don't fit in at the same table because powergamers will hog the spotlight, so in a sense 5e helps with this by making it harder to jump up several power gaps above everyone else by combining compounding synergies. and desu i think wotc's approach is better. pillars of eternity and owlcat shit are made by number crunch autists and "loreguys", and not actual roleplayers, and generally i think they kinda suck because of it
I mean not going for redeemed. The goblin tells me to go kill Isobel so the entire town of NPCs can get murdered and revel in their blood and it's just like why the fuck would I want to do that?
I know it's an RPG but it's several steps too far for me to want to role play with. I still feel bad for mauling the bard in act 1 in my sleep.
Halfling paladins are the best.
and it's just like why the fuck would I want to do that?
Because Larian mistook Bhaal for Khorne. Bhaal was a bit more systemic than that. The kills needed to have a purpose, otherwise it doesn't count. Bhaal worshippers were literally an assassin death cult, not frothing at the mouth berserkers.
there were hints of you being a bhaalspawn in the beta, in fact all the origin characters were implied to be bhaalspawn and they ended up limiting it to a single character.
Pretty much this.
While there are still plenty of things to complain about, 5e is a system where someone who doesn't know a goddamn thing about character creation, what's good, or even broad strokes TTRPG stuff can make a character that can at least be on the same team as the character made by the guy who remembers optimizing in 3.5. You can even make a Human Male Fighter, and actually contribute to the game, and have your moments.
Making a truly useless character requires depth of understanding mechanics and choosing anti-synergy, and even then.
Yeah and if you do that you miss a ton of content too. Evil playthroughs in this game are only worth it as a novelty if you've already played through it "normally" a couple of times.
in fact all the origin characters were implied to be bhaalspawn
Which narratively would've worked much more elegantly than this whole very convoluted tadpole excuse that we have now, but somebody wanted illithids, so here we are.
I honestly think this magical tadpole is the biggest narrative bullshit in the game.
a schizo
There are multiple schizos.
At least we can all agree that wild magic is the most worthless shit you could ever choose.
What, you don't like me turning you into a sheep or accidently shoving a fireball up your ass when I was trying to cast a haste? What are you, gay?
Lolth doesn't have War portfolio, she's too chaotic for that
yeah I don't care nerd I just wanted the extra attack shit.
Wild magic could've been fun, if it wasn't so forgiving. The fact that you are going to fuck yourself over with your wild surge are almost nonexistant, and the whole point of wild magic is this "high risk, high reward" gameplay.
Cause it helps accelerate bhaal's plans with the tower and the absolute. If you die it's whatever he has incest baby Orin, if you live it's a win win cause he gets to pick between the incest baby and a guy that can massacre an entire town with 4 people.
link for trad girl mod?
i'm an oldhead pathfinder 1e veteran and while i like making strong characters and don't mind putting in the work to do so, i just don't have the time to study a system like i used to when i was younger, and quite frankly, it irritates the shit out of me when i want to try something unique in an RPG and the game fucks you for it. As an example, if you want to make a 2wf barbarian, you technically can do that, but the game will make it hurt every step of the way to do so. Generally speaking, the more complicated your build idea is, the harder it will be to achieve unless you have a college degree in the system you're playing, and good fucking luck if the game you're playing doesn't have some kind of respec system if you take a feat that ends up being useless or don't read the fine print that says Slashing Grace only applies to one specific type of light one handed slashing weapon
You mean this one?
nexusmods.com
It's still up and it's being constantly updated.
Kill Gale and Shadowheart
I want to go Druid, but what race is best? I like white humans and white elves btw
why not both?
Wood elf always feels like a fitting race for druids, and it’s also a very strong race.
Half Wood-Elf for extra movement
Usually wood elf or wood half-elf because of their inherent bonus to Wisdom.
here's what i think the plot should have been, and maybe was GOING to be until the negative feedback towards the bhaalspawn stuff
Act 1: you are infected with a tadpole, and things seem very strange because of its effects, and you are kicking squirrels and stuff due to strange compulsions
Act 1-2: you find one of the ways to cure the tadpole (the gith chair, halsin, the underdark mind flayer guy, etc.) but it turns out your violent thoughts remain and the absolute are still a threat
Act 2-3: you need to defeat the absolute and get rid of your bhaal influence (or just give into it)
bhaalspawn powers wouldve made a lot more sense than illithid powers too, like people would be more ready to accept a murder god's blessings than stick more brainworms up their nose
Wood elf druids are cute
I think Half Elf is the sweaty metafag choice. Elf immunities and human proficiencies while also being able to grab elf feats (I can't remember if racial feats exist in this game)
Shadowheart
Where can you even permakill her? I know with Gale I can just give his arm a rip, but I don't remember any opportunities to off her.
Anon you can kill her right after waking up on the beach
Literally what i'm planning to do
Wood Elf
Redeemed Durge
Bladesinger
going to kill Gale in the beginning
probably going to stake Astarion and roll with a 3 girls + gigachad team
going to kill a few random NPCs early on to simulate the urges
Probably Halfling
It's actually quite stupid how strong basically never rolling a 1 is.
I think there aren't any, if you give the butch dyke to the necromancer she just fucks off.
I mean you can permanently kill all of them whenever you want, but depending on what you choose leading up to the Nightsong you can choose an option that ends with you guys fighting her instead.
bhaalspawn powers wouldve made a lot more sense than illithid powers too
Yeah, but I guess one might say that it would be a retread of BG1/2. Also, Swen REALLY wanted to make a game about illithids. So we have this unholy mix that barely makes any sense.
No, The Dead Three working with illithids is the dumbest shit. It's like the Joker asking Darkseid to help him rob a bank.
And then she'll pop up again in the second act. Womp womp.
You can either kill her by, y'know, killing her, or if you ignore her long enough, you get the artifact anyways, she sprints up to tell you about it, and if you ignore her then, she dies between act transitions.
Wyll or Gale as origin character for the replay?
Duergar is the sweaty metafag choice.
Wood Elf
Bladesinger
Why not a high elf with their bonus to Intelligence? And it's more lore-accurate.
Race doesn't affect your ability scores in this game.
What.
White, The police let you get away with a lot
If you fyck up the Nightsong situation situation you end up having to kill her.
Also I think you can kill her when she tries to kill Lae'zel.
If you're trying to stick to story-related kills, those are your two options for her.
Races don't provide locked stat bonuses in BG3. So it comes down to extra cantrip vs more move distance, and move distance wins.
Thematically i think any elf fits.
cry harder
Races don't provide locked stat bonuses in BG3.
I swear to god, this shit was mandated by WotC, given how militiant Jeremy Crawford is about those "racist" mechanics.
Wyll as a player character actually works pretty well.
His plot naturally kinda lines up and pulls through the entire game, while not being centrally important to the core problems.
Gale is kinda boring, desu. You don't really get anything special from being him, besides the dialogue with Elminster and his familiar to discuss the alakablooie.
for me it'd be gale, the worst part about him is his "uhm actually" style of speaking, he's pretty cool otherwise imo
wyll is such a grey noise character that i guess he'd be good as like an origin+ type playthrough
wut
no she doesn't, I'm in the middle of an evil playthrough in act 2 right now and she is still dead
Jeremy Crawford
not OP but I was "having fun" and got my shit kicked in so I had to start looking stuff up like respeccing off shadowheart's garbage cleric specialty and how throwing weapons around as berserker was super strong
Wyll is really cool if you go evil
I know that. Crawford makes extra sure to let everybody know how gay he is.
wyll is such a grey noise character that i guess he'd be good as like an origin+ type playthrough
i meant custom+
why what happens
spoil it for me im never playing w*ll
desu i wanna play the game again but i dont want to kit out 4 different characters. thinken about either doing a super cheesy solo run or playing on balanced or something
God I want a deep gnome wife, bros
I love Karlach
If I didn't go for her I would go for the guardian
I ended up liking astarion a lot but I'm not gay
I like Laezel, she's stupid in a cute kind of way
Wyll was fine if inoffensive
Shart was a bit too clingy
I didn't like gale at all
yuck
for me its the halfling trader lady
Slayer form also sucked in bg2 to be fair. Making it actually would be nice though.
Patch 8 this coming Tuesday, we made it
-Gloom Stalker: 3
T-Thanks
Deep Gnomes are literally regular gnomes without the joy and triple the autism.
but i dont want to kit out 4 different characters
This is my problem too with party-based RPGs. I spend a bunch of time autistically theorycrafting and kitting my main dude I don't wanna do that shit for 3-5 sidekicks. Inevitably sticking them on auto-level makes them dogshit because RPG devs never understand their own fucking games.
and it will be even funnier when it all loops back when companies change target demographic again and starts lewding chromie officially.
I always like to remind people of my favorite race Duergar. Getting invisibility as an infinite use cantrip completely changes the game in a way no other race does and everyone should experience it once. Its not just for assassins and rangers. Theres infinite tactical benefit to starting every encounter from any location you want, from invisibility, with advantage and surprise as any class.
fucking midgets
half elf (wood elf half) unironically. It can walk further than all the other races, has fey ancestry which immunizes you to sleep and shit like that and it has higher Dex and shit like that. Fighter, which is mostly STR focused tho so the lower STR of the elf is a bit of a penalty but not a big deal they still use DEX because Fighters can use bows and need to use them because some encounters are impossible without a ranged option.
i usually suffer this but bg3 was good enough that i found it fun to work on 4 different characters on 2 playthroughs. on my 3rd one though i dont really care as much anymore, and i dont feel like doing all the character quests all over again
dos2 had the lone wolf perk which made you stronger when solo/duo. thinking of looking for something for bg3, like an extra action as long as you are solo
Barbarian is inflated with dialogues like
[Intimidate DC 15] Fuck you!
[Barbarian] GRRRRR (Fuck you!)
If you're building a party face like you're supposed to barbarian is pointless.
How does warlock and wizard playstyle compare?
Wizards have more utility since they can swap spells in and out while learning any spell but are more squishy with no weapons. Warlocks have fewer spells and slots but have access to better weapons.
Tencent adspam thread
OP would have asked in /bgg/ if he was not a shill
warlock is aesthetically cool but usually boils down to having really good numbers on something simple, like spamming eldritch blast or hitting really hard with a melee spellblade kinda setup. all the subclasses feel about the same and do about the same thing
wizard is weaker as a baseline but more adaptable. if you're inventive with your build/subclass then it feels very cool and satisfying to play one. it's more of a support class, but in a fun way
Yeah, they are probably the best race in the game. But you have to play as an ugly shortie though and i don't think it fits bladesinger.
Warlock is a lot more straight forward. Your cantrip, eldritch blast, scales absurdly well into doing good late-game damage for something that takes no spell slot, but warlock has limited utility due to having only a few spells slots for each fight. So you basically do some big aoe or CC move and then spam a cantrip over and over mindlessly. It’s impossible to fuck up on them and their HP is higher than wiz and sorc.
Wiz has a fuckton of options and all utility and niche spells you could ever ask for in the game. You don’t have some great move to spam if you want to save spell slots, but you have a lot of spells to use and some late-game gear that can give you even more. You can build them to be incredibly broken, the summons that they can get are very strong, some broken CC moves that can just disable hard encounters ontop of having more AOE options, and they get some absurdly busted spells, including some unique hidden ones you can only learn from scrolls. But while you do more, you gotta use spell slots for anything. If your entire team is optimized, I don’t think this is ever an issue since fights then end quickly, but it is their main downside. There’s even a wizard subclass that makes them effectively immortal and lets you play as a tank.

Those players never saw how unfinished the game was lmao. Epic.
Warlock is a silly, but fun class where you have shit tier spell slots, but always cast at the highest level available, get some weird perks that can synergize well for different tactics, get one of the best cantrips in the game, while also being very effective at being the party face. One of those funny tactics I mentioned is taking Devil's Sight (lets you see in darkness, magical or not) and learning the darkness spell. Cast darkness and hide them inside of it and walla, they can spam eldritch blast while being effectively immortal because darkness is fucking stupid. They work pretty well for multiclassing too.
Wizard is objectively better for versatility reasons, since they can learn almost every spell in the game and have some magic schools that change how you approach a fight. For example, take evocation to make fireballs risk free, take divination to guarantee hits for your guys and misses for the enemy. But it doesn't do as well for multiclassing (admittedly, this also has to do with the fact that wizards don't need to multiclass in the first place)
the ruleset is why the game sucks
No it's because it was made by larian

It's called "everybody that played BG3 was a low IQ normalfag". You get the same retardation in fromsoft threads now
ive played the beta that didnt have the act 1 finished. When the game drop i just couldnt finish the same slog for the second time.
Maybe thats the case here
If you multiclass into other spellcasting classes, you still maintain your spellslot progress, so taking a level in cleric for heavier armor and some niche cantrips. It doesn’t really change your gameplan like some other multiclass combos can, but it’s nice.
Low IQ normalfags did not buy bg3. just a couple niche troon d&d players addicted to critical role. the rest are chinese shills and botfarms.
of course normal idiots bought the game, it was all over steam
Just like every other chinkshilled game. Doesn't mean the player counts are authentic.
In terms of power gaming, probably elf/half-elf. Shame variant human isn't in the game
Is dual wield shit?
I think it's pretty well known now that 50% of steam are chinese and their taste in games is garbage
I'm very tempted to do another playthrough whenever the next patch drops. I want to see what a playthrough is like when I just ignore some specific characters and never recruit them at all. I don't think I necessarily outright hated any party member, but there were also party members I just really didn't care for.
Lae'zel grew on me, but I want to see what happens when I'm just uncooperative with most of the githyanki. And if she's not there in my party, I have no reason to be nice to them.
Or Karlach, who I never was excited to talk to because her dialogue was so consistently boring and lame.
Or Gale who talks so fucking much that I have to make some fucking coffee before listening to him.
Or Wyll who's legitimately a good guy that wasn't as interesting as he could have been.
I never recruited Minthara either, I should try that.
It can be okay, but you need a martial class that doesn’t need its bonus action. Dual wielding hand crossbows can be pretty funny.
If the schizo wants to keep the thread bumped I guess that makes it easier on the supposed marketers.
And most of those chinese numbers are subsidized by the ccp itself through vouchers/govt purchased copies. It's not representative of hype in the slightest.
The minute BG3 got caught taking massive amounts of Tencent money, the astroturf became obvious.
I mean just read this bot's post:
I'm very tempted to do another playthrough whenever the next patch drops.
It's a fucking camera patch. No one believes this stuff chang lol
Do you mean as a play style or the dual wielder feat? I remember Astarion being able to do 2 attacks with his offhand as a bonus action in the early access versions of BG3, which is better than in 5e which allows you to do only a single attack. The dual wielder feat is pure garbage tho.
Still not buying your gay game
Still no sales numbers
Still a flop
to be fair act1 in bg3 is longer than most games
I went halfway through act one before finding sneak as a bonus action for rogues.
Isn't Durge recommend now as the bedt origin to play?
to bad it's also shit with shit gameplay
this is not act 1
What's your favorite Class Race combo for Durge? I like how inhuman and monstrous the default dragonborn is personally
Minthara is pretty disappointing outside of a few comedic scenes
Just feels super halfbaked
i appreciate it cause rpg's used to let you be evil like that and now you cant even be mean to them when they reveal their pronouns.
Mint and fagsin were products of people in early access wanting to fuck ASAP and fagsins writer was all too happy to write more for self insert while nobody knew what to write for mint.
Both should've been scrapped tho we lost out on a female halfing werewolf origin character because of them.
Cute gnome berserker
Really get that dichotomy
In Act 3 you can go down in to Jahiera's basement where she kept the Staff of the Ram and Belm from BG3 for the ultimate dual wielding experience.
in generally it's like eh whatever floats your boat.
That's not a human
keep in mind the average "gamer" plays one game and its probably either a shooty game or a kick the ball game
Hexblade is a great multiclass.
1 level dip will get you medium armor proficiency and your weapons scale off charisma. Perfect for sorcerers.
Hexblade paladin is good too I guess?
Well you don't have to take pact of the blade. You can do Chain and still have a melee competent warlock.
Yes, Paladin is a charisma caster, but normally you have to pump strength for damage. With hexblade you can focus on charisma. And Paladins are weak on spell slots so smiting with warlock slots is useful.
Do whatever you want, the game isn't that difficult and is more fun if you do weird combos of races and classes. But if you insist on being a metafag then just pick a Sorcerer
Sword Bards as well. Anything CHA related gets supercharged.
Yeah sorcerer is probably the strongest build purely because of how easy it is to long rest in BG3. In real DnD long rests aren't so easy so you have to conserve resources. The power of Sorcerers is the ability to burn through resources fast for burst damage.
Is raw milk haram? Or is this a lactose intolerance thing?
jaheira has a terrible voice and looks five times her age
viconia has both a shit bg2 ending and her bg3 incarnation is somehow even worse
aerie sucks and not in a good way
neera is neera
Why are none of the female romances in the original games any good?
seething
Patch 8 soon brothers(april 15th), then I just need to wait for the mod authors to fix their mods and I can finally play again.
Patch 8 soon brothers
It's a camera mode patch. No one cares Wong.
Instructions unclear, made a white dragonborn
is it a good time to play this game?
It's a tencent astroturf. You know that because you work for the shill company
no. short bg3 until the patch 8 bull run on tuesday
they removed being able to twin chain lightning with the exception of the one given to you by the markoheshkir staff.
get your cleric to cast create water to wet an entire room and then just nuke them with that spell.
Why does the schizo never get banned? What dirt does he have on the jannies?
self defence situation incoming
wait a few weeks for patch 8 bro
durge
durge
It's one of the better uses for a bonus action early on, but it doesn't scale well. As you get more actions and extra attacks on them along with more options for using bonus actions, having a single off-hand hit (or two with thief) becomes less and less worthwhile. In an extreme case, a ranged swords bard can open a fight with 6 main hand attacks that each hit twice with slashing flourish. It's better to just use a real bow/crossbow to boost those 12 hits than use hand crossbows to get 1 more. Especially when that bonus action can be used for something like Command on 5 targets with +10 dc late-game.
game offers like 36 subclasses, soon to be more with the patch
Near unparalleled building freedom
Incapable of taking a companion off their default class
Why am I like this?
No idea, because without class switching Shadowheart is fucking unusable
I wish dragonborn were real
Yeah I only take her off the bench when I need spirit guardian.
There is that place, in Shar's temple iirc, where you get stormed by an army of rats. Spirit guardian simplified it so much.
it's amazing that Larian put so much effort into coop and origin characters to the detriment of the whole game narrative
How was it a detriment?? Is the custom character story just less interesting than the origins?
tuesday
Based, now go seduce Lae'zel and roleplay racial tensions for immersive storytelling.
If he's going to do that he should start over and make a red dragonborn instead. Lae'zel will finally get to ride a red dragon.
White
Because of historical reasons
People are lazy, retarded and don't like reading.
I tried playing with some co-workers and one of them unintendedly picked Durge just because he was too lazy to create a character and he thought lizard guy looked cool, we played like 2 hours and thenh he never touched the game again.
You have to take pact of the blade now for the extra attack. Its no longer a part of hexblade. The wiki hasn't updated yet. That being said it's still the only caster class that lets you get double attack, caster based melee attack rolls, and level 5 slots for shadow blade
Drow, Tiefling, and Gith have the best reactivity, everyone else is just some "neat, that's nice" tier of response to you being there. The game is pretty different going drow durge even though Dragondurge is pretty fun as well. I would never recommend anyone plays default Tav though
I see, ty
Normie tier stuff but he's missing out, Durge is the best part of the game
Doesn't bladesinger get extra attack as well? Warlock is sadly rather meek in this game since so much of what they do well in 5E is the raw roleplay potential. A savvy writer could make an entire game/module around a warlock pc/party with how many pointless features warlocks get
i saw the new subclasses and they are kinda boring.
They have good visuals but that's about it
Hexblade sounds like someone's donut steel. You're the coolest and bestest at everything and have a magic sword, sick ass spells, can summon a demon bro.
Eldritch is going to be op with patch 8 booming blade
muh fugga bix noods where da elves at
DESU hexblades aren't supposed to get the magic sword, they basically get a contract from the magic sword's owner (The Raven Queen but they have to be extra like that). It is ridiculously OP but the demon kinda sucks usually and the subclass is notorious for being extremely frontloaded
Doesn't bladesinger get extra attack as well?
Yea it does. I meant that it gives you both extra attack and uses your caster stat for melee attack rolls. The shadow blade builds need a level 5 slot to up cast for max damage which you get on investing 9 into hexblade(or bladesinger). the strength of hexblade over bladesinger is better armor and not needing to split up your attacking stats between dex and your casting stat. They are both good though.
Warlock is sadly rather meek in this game
Yea it was kinda lame because of how capped short rests are and how good sorcerer is. Patch 8 hexblade is basically just eldritch knight but good
Looking at the progression in BG3 in particular, it feels like the class gets new cool shit at almost every level, more so than nearly any other build.
and not needing to split up your attacking stats between dex and your casting stat.
Can't you just stock up on infinite giant strength potions?
dark urge dragonborn oathbteaker
Well it's basically the DLC after game class. It's also meant to replace the fact that the OP hexblade features got sent to the pact of the blade, ironically the only good one. I'd say it still doesn't compare to better classes like fighter or wizard but it's pretty cool regardless
Yeah that's true but I'm also pretty disappointed on the absolute LACK of patron interactions or reasons to use the Warlock's more niche spell list. Thankfully bladelock will be more than an EB merchant now since pact of the blade was previously just a fluffer for paladins
There's a limit and they're expensive. You can wear cuck gloves and belts too but companions use it better and frankly wizard has so many better things to equip and use
just switch her domain. cleric is a good class but her starting domain is the worst easily.
There's a limit and they're expensive
Is there? I remember that vendors just restock and you can steal them.
Actually, what would be a good stat spread and weapons for a bladesinger?
About to do a 2nd playthrough finally and I want a little bit different team. Can this bitchass, gayass bear-fag fill the same role as a fighter? I don't really want a cleric to be his pocket healer either.
I want
myself bard
Minthara wizard
bearfag tank
undecided damage role here
Fellas is this playable decently on the Deck? I have it on GoG
dex for armor, con to not die, and as much int as you can afford
8/16/14/18-20 int/8/8 is pretty much fine since the game isn't exactly a heckler for you to cover your charisma and wisdom bases unless you're grossly out of position. The game is a bit light on non-dex saving throws I find
You can get them early it's just annoying. The bigger problem is that it takes up an elixir slot and you would usually like to use something else like bloodlust. Also you still need some dex for AC since you are hard locked into light armor. The standard build would probably be 16 in dex and int(or 17 in one and the +1 from hag) 14 con and dump the rest. You always take dual wielding to have an endgame staff and a sword.
Druid tank
He'll die in a turn or two since bears have not much AC and pretty much is just a mid HP damage sponge before he turns back into a twunk and dies instantly. Anyone not Karlach or Laezel in the front is pretty much asking to die unless you can give a shield to astarion
to have an endgame staff and a sword.
Sick idea.
Druids are strong, yes he can.
Druids are madly underrated
Druids are madly underrated
AOE and ST CC machines with good debuffs, some nice buffs and support options, tons of summons, and some good-to-broken AOE damage options (many of which also CC)
also with ability to shapeshift for small corridors,
People grossly undervalue this? Really? Are they smoking crack, or are they just going:
well it doesn't trivialize honour mode solo like Gloomstalker/Assassin/Fighter/(Cleric) and similarly stupid builds do, so it's worthless
?
You can respec EVERYONE, brainlet-kun.
As a bear? Not really. As an Owlbear, Sabertooth Tiger, or Myrmidon? Sure.
if you turn shaddy into a selunite it's easy canonize a domain switch to light or life

What did you meme by this?
