What were they thinking?

What were they thinking?

origins good
odyssey fine
valhalla trash

honh honh baguette croissant very nice oui oui Jacques Cousteau

Origins was okay.
Odyssey was great.
Valhalla was trash.
I don't even want to bother with Shadows after Valhalla.

Suckers like these will buy it anyway.

For me? Its Syndicate. Victorian setting + cute girl protagonist does it for me.

"We want some of that Witcher 3/BOTW audience"
which is funny because those games were clearly influenced by asscreed

What were they thinking?

Money

Origins was a good AC game
Odyssey was a good adventure game, just not a very good AC one
Valhalla is trash

Intricate detailed cities like Paris and London are hard work... let's make open world slop instead. 50 square miles of sand, fields and sea

Impeccable taste... A shame Elise wasn't playing in Unity

Honestly, Shadows>Valhalla so far.

Ass Creed has felt unrecognizable after Black Fag

Definite missed opportunity.

Tangentally related:
Does AC2 feel less clunky compared to AC1? Because Altair feels almost comically unresponsive at times, compared to the newer entries.

everybody complains about how samey the games are, what if we change it up

*proceeds to shit themselves several times trying to change it up*

I want to say it came from a good place, but its Jewbisoft so I can't make that argument in good faith.

definitely
AC2 is simply the better game, something all sequels should aspire to be
people mostly like the setting and characters from 1

Opinions on Mirage?

Franchise became stale and they tried to change it.
Change doesn't always lead to improvement. But to improve you need to change.

Valhalla sucked. The other two are fine. What I really miss was removed features in Ai from odyssey to Valhalla.

In origins and odyssey NPCs mourned fallen comrades in outposts. Valhalla didn't. That told me they really stopped caring about the game too. When small details dissappear. Details make or break a game.

Retarded opinion kys

They are wholly incompetent. 11 years to make a Black Flag clone without Assassin shit, and it was a massively downgraded failure

the whole game series is slop

Beautiful setting and I liked how they incorporated assassinations into cutscenes but for most of the game I didnt understand why I was killing certain people even with Basim's monologue

To be fair, so far, I don't know why I'm killing people as Altair, outside of "Duncan told me to".
So I guess it checks out.

Shadows IS better just due to the fact that it's half as long as Valhalla

80 hours main story without side quests

What were they thinking.

Also, stealth in Shadows actually works.
80% of the time in Valhalla I am thinking the game just expects me to bruteforce every encounter. Granted, it fits the viking theme, but why would you make a stealth game about warriors known as being anything BUT stealthy?

why would you make a stealth game about warriors known as being anything BUT stealthy?

legit how do you solve this

viking game

power fantasy

but also stealth game

only way I can see it being done is by going back to two protagonists (I wonder if that's what happened with Shadows), making one big and buff and the other lithe and nimble. They could've gone for a Thor/Loki kind of dynamic in Valhalla.

I was going to despute this since I was certain I finished the game in 50ish hours turns out I have 120

ooof

Odyssey was great.

kek

shadows is so good ong

so is odyssey worth a playthrough? i love the setting but i've heard they made greeks look like fucking africans is that true?

Unironically, having Basim be a second protagonist would've solved the issue.
And fixed another issue - that being the series about Assassins not being about Assassins.

Bayek - not an Assassin: only creates the order in the finale.

Kassandra/Alexios - not an Assassin, just fights against the proto-proto-Templars.

Eivor - literally refuses to be an Assassin

Naoe - is only tangentally allied with the Assassins, and fights the allies of the Templars.

Only Mirage has us playing an actual Assassin.

they made greeks look like fucking africans

What

tfw think Valhalla is the best of the three

Guess I'm the target audience of Shadows then.

You unironically aren't, because Shadows gameplay is the opposite of Valhalla.

they're all good games :)

Except for Origins they were just chasing pop culture shit

Except for Origins

Origins is essentially "we have the Witcher 3 at home (in Egypt)". The lead dev even admits that.

Guess you're right. I was thinking more in terms of settings, and ancient egypt is a bit less pop culture than vikings or sparta

Wdym. Vikings launched surprise raids all of the time. There's some literature on ancient Germanic people doing sneaky kinds of warfare. Like for example the story of Arminius and how he lead some Romans into an ambush in the forest. In the viking age they didn't wear gay leather suits and horned helmets and just charge into shit head on. They would have never been able to capture parts o the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms if they did that. They only lost eventually because Alfred was even better at that kind of warfare than them.

But origins was kino af, especially the DLC

Origins literally revolves around fucking Caesar and Cleopatra (eho even looks like Liz Taylor). You can't get more popculture than that.

It was actually. And Isidora was hot af.
Too bad she had to go.

There are some Greek NPCs that look like they're doing black face, but they're few and far inbetween and easily missable. 99% of the NPCs are just white or tanned Greeks.

You mean for the assassin chick? I liked Mirage alot too so I figured shadows was a mix of valhalla brawler with mirage stealth.

If you pick Naoe, you play Mirage on nuclear steroids. If you play Yasuke, you play a brawler. The game goes out of its way to have you play as Naoe, because Yasuke gets boring after an hour.
