I prefer hold crouch on ctrl and toggle crouch on C. I usually have both bound at the same time if the game allows me to. More game just need to start implementing contextual actions with crouch. Tap crouch for toggle and hold crouch for hold. It's so simple, and I don't know why more games don't implement it as a default.
