that's just marketing talk, but for the opposite reason, boss mechanics and enemy "AI" (not the actual AI but you know, the behavior patterns of npcs in games) have been dumbed down for decades now, it has always been very easy to write scripts and mechanics that outsmart players, but players feel awful if they get outsmarted by 3 lines of script, so enemies in games are deliberately made really dumb, so all the gaymers can enjoy their shooting fish in a barrel simulators, here's a very simple example of it, you could give npcs a script that if the player's position is 2 meters away from a ledge then they use an attack that pushes them 2 meters towards the edge and makes them fall off, this is not hard to code at all, it's an extremely simple script to write, but it'll blow the mind of any player and they'll feel like idiots when an npcs pushes them off a cliff, and of course there's a million ways to write scripts where npcs would use the environment or have the devs predict player patterns and code behavior accordingly, like for example have an enemy npc that has a dodgable stun ability, and it instead of just throwing it at you allowing you to dodge it, will keep chasing you as you try to dodge until it catches up, this will blow anyone's mind, that the npc monster isn't just brainlessly tossing out abilities but is instead predicting what you'll try to do and counter it, none of this even requires actual AI, it's like 5 lines of code, that'll outsmart 90% of players, which they'll hate, because they don't want to get outsmarted by npcs

Lets say the sea monkey gives you what you asked in one day, but you want certain part edited because he didn't quite understood what you meant. Whats more, with AI you can prompt the same thing but it gives multiple versions of it so you can choose from a batch of 20 images which one you like the most, you too can ask the sea monkey drawing stuff for 20 images so you can choose which one you like the most, but no matter how cheap he is, 20 images its going to cost plenty because it adds up, and by the sixth drawing he's going to get tired of drawing the same stuff but in different angle and his quality is going to suffer because of it.

LLMs can and likely eventually will do a lot for gaming, and not in a "reduce expenditure for corpos, steal jobs, and output low quality slop" kind of way. It'd work in the same kind of way that traditional game AI works, i.e. dictating how it behaves in its environment and improving interactivity. The idea is that you'll have NPCs that can actually talk to you and trigger things within the game engine in an organic manner, making the game more immersive and personal. The problem with implementing it now however is that there's no sensible way of going about it; you would either need the game to be a very expensive always-online MMO style environment which has questionable sustainability (and would still be kneecapped by response times and context limits), or you would need a very weak limited model that can run locally (which, with the capacities of such a model, would be pointless). That said, I'm not sure there's many developers even working towards making this do-able, the only game I've seen so far to tackle it is AI Roguelite and it's more of a front-end to facilitate gamified role-playing than an actual videogame.
