What's the main narrative in Engage about again? It certainly wasn't about Elusia vs Brodia. It was about Alear's journey through Elyos as he/she tried to recover the rings to stop Sombron. Similarly, 3H wasn't about Almyra/Sreng/Dagda/etc. The writers put in as much as needed in the main plot and leave the rest of it into supports for the players to get the entire picture.
I have a far bigger problem with how woefully undeveloped Almyra is as a nation between 3H/Hopes even though its supposed to be major aspect of Claude's character.
Come on anon, they give you Lapis in Chapter 7 and on the very next map, here comes Diamant who has comparable or better stats in every way. Yes, we know that's largely due to his base class having superior bases and they're closer than you'd think, seeing stuff like that is an easy way to turn people off from a unit when no one knows the context because you know, the game literally just came out.
Furthermore, you'd have to be delusional to not see why people would ride Kagetsu's dick from day 1. It's not even a full 4 chapters after Diamant joins and here comes Kagetsu with an impressive 17 Str/22 Spd at base in SM which is very likely to be as good or better than all of your other physical characters.

Yunaka is worse than Timerra on Maddening. Her personal strength/speed bases are lacking and she either has to waste time in a T1 class or be stuck in thief until IL21 which is basically Chapter 17+. Timerra on the other hand suffers from being shoved in T1 when everyone else joins in T2 out of some shitty mandate and for whatever reason, some genius in IS decided that she'd be the ONE unit that joins post 10 without an inflated bld stat.

He also put Elise into range of archers who could have killed her multiple times, again for really no reason, but the reason people were pointing to the Effie thing is because it proves he wasn't playing with good intentions. I was in both CQ and BR runs. I carried the BR run in fact, because as much as you all thought it was le based to see a bunch of units die at once, none of you actually wanted to play it. The difference in Birthright is that, as near as anyone could tell, that guy just sucked, and legitimately lost a bunch of units due to lack of experience. He wasn't actively griefing the run and bragging about it.
Maybe he was just subtler. Who knows. But he passed the sniff test.
