It's good once you're in a match. Menus suck, training mode does the job but is nowhere near sf6, you can't select a random stage for online matches (but can select random music for some reason and to be fair they do have a jukebox with all songs available) and other things like that. Gameplay is more like running, dashing and hopping than walking, that is, more like strive, less like sf6 than you'd expect, but not full anime either, kind of a middle ground. Combos are short until you decide to dump resources, then they become like any other modern game. I'd recommend watching matches from the TampaNeverSleeps tournament that just ended or just download the pirated version and try it out

Lots of mechanics to keep in mind, so there's a learning curve, but also none of the mechanics dominate the game. You can counter everything in multiple ways if you know how to do it.

Execution is more demanding than the mainstream fighters, but compared to the genre overall it really isn't hard. Webm is the hardest things will get for most of the cast, but there are of course some outliers

Damage usually isn't high, but if you get whacked with a heavy starter good chance you're getting a massive chunk ripped off your hp bar

You should worry more about getting your neutral game down good first anyways, the game isn't modeled after the modern take of overly aggressive neutral skip gameplay

Kain, Hokutomaru and Hotaru are currently the overtuned characters, but for Day 1 the balance is pretty good.

Ranking up is actually a challenge, if you have a sub-50% winrate there's a very real chance you could be eternally stuck in whatever rank

Arcade, Survival and Time Attack function as you'd expect

EOST mode is meh. It does expand on the lore of the cast and there are a lot of interactions to be found, but doing it with all characters would get very grindy very fast.

Training, Combo Trials and Tutorials could be better

Granblue has around 500-700 players daily and I find matches with no problem, then again if you actually played games you'd know it.

Granblue also had a peak that was double of CotW.
CotW might get 100 players to stick around, 200 if the game gets lucky.

Forgot to mention the fact that the game has crossplay, the updates for bug fixes are frequent, they will add a character every two months, we're safe, it's just v acting like the redditors that they are.

I can't explain why I decided not to buy this game being somewhat of an SNK fan... Game is fine but I guess I just like old 2D games more because they have SOVL and newer games don't. 3D games look good and so do anime fighters but SF4-6, KoF 15, CotW and others just don't appeal to me visually and aesthetically. There's something morally wrong about this transition into 2.5D when you've been known for great pixel art.

So it's Fightcade for me until new VF/DoA/SC comes out. I will pay those even if they're at least decent. I still play and enjoy T8 even after the hilarious patch that made every character more dumb. At least it has lots of cool and satisfying animations.
