Japanese characters

Japanese characters

in a Japanese game

set in fictional Japan

with Japanese names

Translators change them to have different Japanese names in other languages

For what purpose? Does The Pokemon Company mandate that the majority of characters have different names depending on language no matter what?

Probably, yes.
Square does this with Dragon Quest and translators have bitched about it. The idea for these kinds of things is to keep the info spheres between regions from overlapping in order to control marketing.

on the one hand i find the idea of translators wanting to be more accurate unbelievable
on the other hand i find the idea of square being insane retards believable

Rei sounds like "Ray", which means racist grandma won't get upset when Jimmy talks about his game. Same for Akari, because it's close to Kari/Carrie.

You sound like you've been deeply propagandized, unfortunately. Translators exist on a massive spectrum in terms of how accurate a translation should be and which elements are important.

But yeah, major names have to be at least kind of different in DQ, and many terms are forced from up top, like Alltrades Abbey, which doesn't even make any fucking sense half the time.

name ten companies you trust

The more changes the trannylators make the more they get paid.

Ace Attorney have concepts from Shinto

Set in California

Companies enforce stupid shit very often. Different employees tend to have different points of view.

Name ten companies you trust.

What is this nonsequiter? You should never trust a company. This has nothing to do with what I'm saying.

That's the opposite of how that works.
They're incentivized to "change" things (make shit up/skip editing) because they don't get paid more to do a good job.

translators are generally employed by companies

Mihoyo games also did this with chinese names changed into latin names. Ironically Inazuma names didn't get touched on because Japan is cool now.

Yeah, man. Most people are. That doesn't mean you agree with your boss or co-workers. Are you retarded?

i do what my boss says
i dont know what the fuck is going on above me or even around me
i do know what i personally say though, so it should be pretty easy to refuse to write retarded shit

You're talking to a literal cretin. Don't waste your time.

Yeah.
There are good and bad translators, which is independent of the constraints and demands of the company coordinating the translation, whose ideas on how to handle a translation may make the end product better or worse. I have no idea what you're even trying to get at anymore. None of this is relevant to the start of this: that there's a broad range of people who work in translations and they vary wildly in approach and quality.

there aren't good corporate translators is what i'm getting at
you know this

Yeah dude, I'm sure you were getting really into Shiren 6 and Kunitsugami last year but you were put off by their translations.

Piss off. You're not going to engage with nuance because it clashes with your politics.

i don't even know what those games are, but feel free to tell us all about them if you think they're good
that's all entirely irrelevant though, you ran into me
if you think corporations are good, feel free to prove it
if you don't, feel free to uh, whine about politics i guess

i don't even know what those games are

Yeah, I know you don't play video games, you're here to dramamonger.

if you think corporations are good, feel free to prove it

Nobody said "corpo good," you're just a fucking moron.

i've given you a pretty easy question
you seem to be having trouble answering it

Why do you abuse children, anon?

i'm chinese

Cleafly this is CENSORSHIP

Same for Akari, because it's close to Kari/Carrie.

These are not pronounced the same at all

this is a jew whose only purpose for other cultures is how he can make them fight against each other instead of him, he doesn't care

Yeah, but the overwhelming majority of translators in the west are deep in the shitty part of that spectrum

Some versions of Kari are phonetically different from Carrie and are pronounced that way. English is stupid like that.

My ass, they are. Most game translations don't even register as a blip. You'll get real shit ones on occasion, absolutely, but the average is mediocre. Functional but really boring. Maybe a few dumb choices on how to imitate slang or memes. People tend to rage at like five lines out of a script because it feeds their biases instead of talking about actually bad translations. There's way more Unicorn Overlords out there than FE Fates.

holy shit get an AI to post for you, it would sound more human

No rebuff so "muh AI"

Whatever, faggot.

call me babe

I'll call you a mortician.

i'm already a deadmon kaz

for what purpose do trannylators change nearly everything to be different from the original script

To entice you to learn the language instead of paying trannylators to replace an entire script with fanfiction.

i kneel

Here's a question: How much of pokemon's translations and localization is directly overseen by TPC?
Aren't they the ones who name the pokemon designs for every language -- wouldn't that extend to the characters as well?

every company does that, it's not uncommon

sand becomes sandshrew

thunders becomes jolteon

ghost becomes ghastly

crab becomes krabby

freezer becomes articuno

thunder becomes zapdos

fire becomes moltres

Are the translators retarded? Why make fanfic english names when they're already in english?

That's not even close to being the same thing

Hey man, what do you have in your party?!

Oh, I have [N O U N S]!
