EXPEDITION 33 SPOILERS THREAD

Oh so after much pontificating I’m pretty sure I understand the story, but I got three questions

The Renoir we see for most of the game with the nice ass suit is a creation of the Paintress, correct?

Who the fuck are “The Writers”? Did they start the fire that killed Verso?

What’s the significance of the Gormage and why does the Paintress need to kill everyone of a certain age? Is it just to count the passage of time since Verso died?

How the fuck do I kill the Chromatic hexga?
the schizo is making so many threads I can’t tell which one people are using

IMG_5134.jpg - 1920x1080, 319.6K

Desu the other threads are just shitflinging I wanted to make a space where people who finished it could talk without spoiling anything for others.

The Renoir we see for most of the game with the nice ass suit is a creation of the Paintress, correct?

Correct, the curator who upgrades our weapons is the real Renoir.

Who the fuck are “The Writers”? Did they start the fire that killed Verso?

Some other magical negros who have beef with the painters for whatever unexplained reason.

What’s the significance of the Gormage and why does the Paintress need to kill everyone of a certain age? Is it just to count the passage of time since Verso died?

The paintress didn't at all. The one causing the gommage was Renoir, the real Renoir who is killing the people to get his wife to leave the painting. As more people die to Nevrons(creations of Clea) their Chroma gets trapped unable to return to Aline, the paintress weakening her allowing Renoir to gommage more and more people. The number is a waring to the people that they're the ones going to be next.

If you aren't killing Simon with FOR GUSTAVE Maelle skill during his 3rd phase, you're playing the game wrong

Paintress boss and final boss are easily the most memorable moments in the game

Someone really needs to make an Act III guide because any island I fly too is just filled with enemies that one shot me

What the fuck is this? HAHA

23trg.jpg - 487x426, 19.93K

Monolith Renoir and Paintress are both peak, the last honest hard fights before you break everything with overpowered builds and pictos in act 3

I liked the Duallist

Endless tower for a few rounds and the frozen heart is what got me going smoothly. From there you can start taking on chroma bosses and more tower rounds to level up.

I see a lot of discussion on whether Verso or Alicia are right, but do you guys think Gustave would've sided with Alicia or Verso? I feel he could've went both ways since he wants Maelle to be happy, but also wants what's best for her and that's clearly to not stay in a "fake" world.

Just leave the open world mobs for the later. Roam around the portals instead

Go kill that big nigger walking around the ocean to get the most busted passive.

Also eventually you'll start being able to do dark shore enemies and you'll start shooting up really really fast since they always drop weapon upgrades and that is where all your power comes from

Gustave would've sided with

Sophie

this is Clea, my wife

I feel pretty confident he'd side with Alicia. I don't see how someone can see their own world as a "fake" world.

What I like about the ending is both characters are kinda selfish in their desires

Verso is forced to become Maelle/Alicia’s plaything for eternity

Alicia spends the rest of her life as a mute invalid

We know, Simon.

Gustave loves Maelle enough that he would've sided with Verso to force her out of the painting

Ultimately, I think Verso was afraid Gustave will call him out on his own bullshit

image0.jpg - 600x571, 118.73K

Verso is right though that she'll be fine in the end and able to paint all kinds of worlds. The ending with all her friends waving goodbye and her smiling sadly at them is very clearly framed as them living on in her heart (which apperently is what the French in the song is confirming).

Verso is right though that she'll be fine in the end and able to paint all kinds of worlds. The ending with all her friends waving goodbye and her smiling sadly at them is very clearly framed as them living on in her heart (which apperently is what the French in the song is confirming).

and able to paint all kinds of worlds

But she wants this one, it's her home retard

WE already had this discussion.
Gustave would 100% tell maelle to fuck off back to live her real life, he already showed signs before that he cares a lot more about maelle than lumiere.

imagine being a maelletard holy kek

You're delusional, Versofag. He still has students that he cares about enough to write journals for them, and his sister.

Which were already gommage'd, yes

There's literally no greater reason to believe Maelle would be happier in Verso's ending over her own ending.

VERSO / RENOIR WERE RIGHT
ALICIA / ALINE WERE RETARDED
THE WRIGGERS ARE COMING, GET OUT OF THE FUCKING PAINTING YOU WHORE

One ending shows maelle with a tense face
The other have maelle smiling
Geee wee I wonder which one brought true happiness for maelle

Are you an idiot? Ask Ciel what she thinks of gommages and death.

She'd be alive

Let's say Keighley tells Sandfall to choose 1 song to play live at the game awards. Which would they pick?

Did they elaborate at all on how Alicia was manipulated by the writers?

DLC of Big Dick Renoir coming to kill the guys who killed his son and fucked up his daughter when?

Lumiere easy

It's obviously just gonna be Lumiere

I will repeat it from last thread:
faggots who boil down the ending to escapism are retarded niggers
shit is way more nuanced and complex than that
I picked Verso's ending but still think the people in the canvas are real human beans

She read fanfics on ao33 and one of them was infected with malicious fetishes

Too late, paint cucks

04145180.jpg - 1000x1000, 130.39K

Will every thread about this game be like this?
An endless exchange of copium?

If you think she looks happy in Verso's ending I don't know what to tell you. To me it's clearly a fake smile she's putting on to show her parents which instantly disappears when they aren't looking.

The main theme is officially Alicia so gonna be this one

First time?

2065583.jpg - 640x914, 193.33K

this, the best ending for Alicia/Maelle is the hard to swallow pill to let go and not become addicted to the canvas like Aline
Gustave already lost Sophie, the person he care the most during the whole game was Maelle. He was willing to end the expedition to make sure she was safe

captcha:ha2py

If you think she looks happy in Verso's ending I don't know what to tell you. To me it's clearly a fake smile she's putting on to show her parents which instantly disappears when they aren't looking.

Thats entirely on your head, the last scene we see of her face is a smile.
The last scene we see of maelle's face in her ending is a worried, almost melancholic face.
Everything else is headcanon

Is that a tranny?

The game really needs to put some sort of warning that if you do side content before the main story you will completely trivialize the fights and ruin the experience, I had to back out and strip 50% of my pictos off to not blow through the phases on turn 1

Have sex with Sciel

Later tells me she’d trade my life for her husband’s in a second

Bitch I thought what we had was special

I'll take debates about the game's themes and endings over low-effort shitposting and waifus

It's not Umineko

Well you thinking her smile is happy is also in your head too.

The last scene we see of maelle's face in her ending is a worried, almost melancholic face.

Yeah cause she's worried about how Verso's going to live and trying to get HIM to be happy. Maelle isn't the point in her ending. Verso is.

signs of ludokino include endless debate for years, no one is talking about what ending to take for fallout4 despite selling more than NV yet people still argue over NV's faction

would he side with his pseudo daughter or the man that let him die so he could trick his pseudo daughter

He would not burn the painting but would do everything he could to get her to leave.

shoot the crystal nonstop until he breaks

they successfully made an A/B ending that's gonna have Anon Babble arguing for the next 5+ years

Bravo

It was a genuine question because that looks like a man pretending to be a woman. Maybe it's just a bad angle or something, but that's too many bad angles in that image

Maybe if you play the paino hard enough for your master she'll make some adjustments to Sciel

best part is that you cucked yourself out of Lune and she fit Verso way better since both are in the shadow of their parents

low test fag can't handle a 1900s girl with natural thick eyebrows, go masturbate to some disgusting plastic k-pop bimbo, the micro-plastic already made you sterile anyway

It's fine I just chose verso's ending to prevent getting cucked

Sell me the game, anons. Is it worth playing?

Who the fuck cares about maelle? We must protect Lune at all costs

One more victory for the french
No japanese game managed to do that.

Verso who romanced Lune in Maelle's ending would clearly be way happier than Maelle would be alone and crippled in Verso's ending.

I had sex with both

We must protect

Esquie
FTFY

kek

You fags think pussy can fix depression?

return to all these early areas to break paint stains after i found enough lost gestrals

most loot is colours of lumina

There's been some pictos but backtracking trying to find these is obnoxious

The true nature of versotards

I mean it did

you should probably leave this thread

What headcanon are you using now anon?

Its painted Clea for me. That fight was sick. And it was the first time I remembered to use gommage (wtf 10 million damage?!?!) but thank god I never thought to use it until she was at like 1/8th hp or I would have robbed myself of a really kino fight.

That does the opposite of selling me the game...

Do I give into the delusions of women

or

Do I follow the men who knew what's more important

GET AWAY
GET AWAY NOW!

You guys got the part when they said Gustav's apprentices designed his fake arm.
You are telling me children are better engineers than all the rest of the adults?

Better to not play it than get spoiled on one of the best video game stories in years.

SPOILER THREAD

Puts spoilers in the OP

fucking retard

it'll probably be the song they play when you enter lumiere in act 3, since they prefer livelier songs (also can someone tell me that track's name the OST is so fucking long and I can't find it)

lune, sciel, gustav disintergate into red paint

maelle into gold

paintress into gold

verso and verso's soul into white

monoco and esquie just fade away without any

what did the devs mean by this?

It's one of the best games ever made, go buy or pirate it and don't come back to Anon Babble until you're done with the story or have decided you're done playing the game

Well where else are ya gonna put the spoilers

You guys keep saying this but its really only bad with two of Maelle’s moves, gommage and stendhal. Otherwise, the occasional 1 million damage crit counter is a good thing.

It's Une Vie a t'Aimer or some variation of ti

Just wait half an hour for him to coom or the jannies to autosage.

yeah that's it, thank you

People of Lumiere start their apprentiship at 6 years old and sometime younger. Them dying early mean that they gotta start working early and speedrun life.

The final character quest bosses are all hard as balls unless you over leveled

The crew were paintress creations.
Maelle and paintress are real people / painters.
Verso is owner of the world
Monoco and esquie are the original beings of the canvas.

That nigger snake in lune's ending pissed me off to no end

Fine, I'm gonna trust you anons on this, since it's one of the few games that doesn't have any countrshilling to it, so maybe it is genuinely good. Just droped Rebirth, so I need something to wash away the disapointemnt. It better be at least decent

killed Grosse Tete twice without monoco in party

its versover

oh thank god I finally killed the snake, my last two characters are low health too

"SURPRISE MOTHER FUCKER"

I nearly threw my controller against the wall when the mages wiped me

Nigga they put the style system from Devil May Cry in a turn based RPG if that doesn’t do anything for you I don’t know what to say

So? No one else designed a prosthetic in all those years? I can accept the kids building it because gustav would only have 1 arm to work with but why the fuck couldnt he design it?

It's good

maelicia kinda seems like a brocon.

Untitled.jpg - 1009x752, 112.24K

This game has a sixteen year old killing monsters in thigh high boots why is this one minor explanation the deal breaker for you

The fucking tail attack is somehow easier to parry if you don't break its weakpoint.

I will say I fucking hate rebirth and loved this for the majority of the game.

That one that plays when Gobu is butt slamming you over and over. Would mix nice into the middle of a bunch of other music.

Yes

Yes

No, Renoir is the one doing the gommage he's trying to delete every one at once so his wife will actually leave her fictional cope, she's holding him back but she's weakening over time so her oldest creations get hakai'd every year.

lmao yeah breaking it makes it do less damage but also completely removes the tell so you have no clue when to dodge or parry

can you go one thread without trying to turn this game into a cultural battlefield nobody asked for

It was a gift from them to him. He's one of the best inventor in Lumiere's history, of course all of his apprentices put together could do something like that

So renoir/clea 100% are destroying verso painting once Alicia dies right

How can we beat him, he just keeps healing!

Me: but… Verso just one shot him…

That 16 year old just happens to be a god of the world. She also already lived at least 16 years outside of the painting so shes really >32 years old

Yeah probably. Clea is burning it most likely at the very least

Good points. A medley of a few different tracks would be best. Should definitely include Lumiere and une vie t'aimer, along with a few more standouts

Having a subtitle seems to imply that they want to make “Clair Obscur” a franchise but where the hell do you go from here given that Nevrons and Gestrals and the other creatures were creations of Verso?

Wriggers vs painters, but the second game would be spoiled of the twist that it's a fake world (probably writing themed)

where do you even take this information from?

Writers vs Painters

best part is that you cucked yourself out of Lune and she fit Verso way better since both are in the shadow of their parents

romancing lune is so fucked if you choose verso's ending. at least sciel accepts it

Not sure if he's a shill or a really weird pol racist.

I think it's a general recommend, people who really hate turn based or story shit like jrpgs will bounce off of it.

Then they aren't overleveled, no? They're correctly leveled.

Like final fantasy just a completely new story. We got everything we need from this world, any more would lessen the meaning of what came before.
Maybe keep a connecting entity between games like esquie or gestrals being the merchants that have traveled to new worlds to become the best merchants

100%, I would do it too, if it almost killed my mother/wife and it killed my daughter/sister, it also reminds me of the death of my son/brother.
Its quite literally a fucking cursed object in my house, I would burn it without hesitation

Assuming the verso ending is Canon, i don't see why a canvas made by Alicia couldn't have Geatrals.
At the very least I assume Monoco, Noco, and Esquie will be repeat characters, for sure the earlier two given they're the family dogs just given painted form

who are the (((writers)))

i one shot her. i'm sad i missed her whole fight

Its very, very likely that Game 2 won't have anything to do with the dessendres

people who really hate turn based or story shit like jrpgs will bounce off of it.

the exact opposite in my experience.

Not enough people talking about the shot of Verso staring at Maelle before he plays the piano. More cinematic than any Sony third person shooter sad dad simulator I’ve seen.

Holy shit bro. Its going to be like night and day going from that game for you.

There is obviously more than these two also, musicians is an easy one but the french also consider cooking an art.

Clair obscur is a painting term, it'll almost certainly continue to be about them, but at minimum about painters

Why did they cut like 70% of this song out of the game? Only the first three minutes are played at the beginning of act 3 youtu.be/10m7CzhQrFs?si=haF3xD0IiNhzVVsx

Monoco

Mon nègro
despite being in 1905, africa has modern borders...

You do realize that there are other painters right?

As it shouldn't. Their story has been told. They have infinite possibilities now and will have a huge budget for a brand new story under the Clair Obscur title. Lets hope they don't insult the fans in its sequel like Last of Us and Kingdom Come did.

all the different arts could be its own game and the meta-physical war beyond those pieces of arts like writers vs painters, also retard play the game instead of saying stupid shit
nevrons are Clea's creation

They probably asked for 3 minutes and the dude just autistically gave them 4 times as much as they asked for

*cane clicking sound*
*guitar riff*

”une vie a taimer” plays

I thought Verso couldn't look at Lune in the eyes because he fucked Sciel but I guess it was because she got betrayed once again. She was the one who cared the most about saving lumière after all.

lune.png - 1920x1080, 2.8M

I mean they randomly pulled the dude off soundcloud, if that was me I would feel like I won the lottery and overperform.

GTA 6 will not be nearly as expressive as this game despite them spending 12 years and a billion dollars on development.

Who's your pick on who hates it then? Aside from weird weeb ultranationalists?

If it absolutely HAS to be about paintings then it could be meta where someone is looking for someone and has to travel through a bunch of different paintings looking for them and its set up like mario 64 though i would prefer it to be wholly original

shitposter artists

make fun of fake intellectual who just want to sound deep and smart

these same retards are too retarded to notice they are being made fun of and start putting dadaism as some form of sophisticated high art

The Anon Babble art-form, with enough ironical retardation and shitposting you eventually get surrounded by unironical retards

he spawns in the flying manor

Next game I hope we play as a writer whose memory got wiped in a canvas, and at the end you have to choose to side with the painters or writers after learning all the details about the factions

Is the story any good? I read it is pretty mediocre

it's your standard tear-jerker.

So mediocre you have instant bump limit whenever someone drops a

who was right?

Be fair. You can also get bump limit by posting 2girls one cup vs 1 man 1 jar.

What’s the significance of the Gormage and why does the Paintress need to kill everyone of a certain age? Is it just to count the passage of time since Verso died?

how could someone finish the game and honestly still need to ask this question

Personally I think the base setup is good, but the meta narrative not as much.

The fuck are you talking about?

And here is your composing team.

Any lore locations left? I killed Simon and painted Clea and got all the journals already. Did all the relationship stuff too.

99% white

makes sense it was kino

Sciel and Verso have a deep connection too and they would've worked well if Pierre was out of the picture. I liked the bittersweetness of their romance.
That makes me wonder, did Maelle bring back Julie in her ending? Cause Verso maybe would've preferred Julie over Sciel same way she preffered Piere over Verso

I intentionally didn't use Maelle for Clea or Simon to make the boss fights kino. Actually had to learn their patterns and shit.

I was perfectly happy with a generic "go slay the bad paintress" story because gustav was fun. After the verso swap in act 2 i was less invested.
Renoirs a bitch for not being able to force his wife and daughter out of the painting, who gets overpowered by an old woman?

What would Gustave make of the whole situation after his death?

Wow, most of them look actually European. That's nuts

Lampmaster

Dualliste

Renoir 1

Both axons

Renoir 2

Paintress

Final boss

These are all the highlight fights of the game IMO. The final fight can be a bit disappointing though. They should have kept the damage cap until you beat the game, but I also understand they might have been afraid of people doing side content before the end.

They should just auto remove the painter's picto when you fight the final boss. It's obvious the finale still had the 9999 damage cap in mind.

I kind of dislike the ending choice. Verso's is obviously the most thematically relevant, but it has a big fucking asterisk attached in that you have to commit genocide on an entire world of sapient beings. I don't think it's controversial to say that genocide is bad, especially for the sake of a single family, so it doesn't really matter how satisfying or thematically relevant the ending is, it's fucked on principle.
The world shouldn't have been erased on either ending really, it should have been about whether Maelle was allowed to stay in the world or forced out of it. That way the ending choice is focused on the themes of escapism, and doesn't have a separate axis of genocide attached, which it feels like the game doesn't really care about delving into because act 3 and the endings pretty much ignore the lives of the painted people and hyperfocus on the dessendres. It's basically brushing over the actual moral questions of the ending.

Simon?

paintress phase 3 scared me fuck out when I saw phase 2 wasn't the end but turn out she healed Maella(dunno if random or it target her and verso) and I felt bad finishing her off

Simon was insane, normally when you have a phase 2, you don't get an xp screen this is the only exception the game devs did before raping your ass with his double sword slashes
then he dies, says nothing just act like a total bro and give you his sword

708892618

Renoir is 'most likely'
Clea will burn it then piss on the ashes

100% the game

Don't want to leave

I understand Maelle now

It would be funny if Clair Obscur suffered the same problem Xenoblade 2 did in that the best twist in the game became something that was just common public knowledge later, so only the people who originally played the game during its release window got the full experience of the twist.

entire world of sapient beings

Lumiere is already gone, you are just killing 2 humans. Monoco and Esquie are fine with it, they are riding with Verso's choice. Only the Gestral and ice fuckers(i forgot their name since they aren't as many of them as gestral). And to be fair, they probably have a different outlook on death anyway. You can argue they don't die since they live on in Alicia's heart. Just like how the game isn't running right now but the game's characters will always live on in your memories. Game is about grief and Renoir tells you that life give you cruel choices anyway

also what the fuck is the language of the Gestral, I hear random english and french words, who the fuck are the voice actors and what jungle island did they came from

I meant for the main story. Clea and Simon are kino fights (if you don't cheese them with 1 shots) but they aren't main story.

healed Maella(dunno if random or it target her and verso)

She gave Lune a shield for me then skipped the rest of her turns.
The devs really make you beat up a helpless old woman in the end

Clea doesn't care, she just want Renoir out of it because she need him. If anything she tell Maelle to do whatever she want but not fall for the errors of both parents.

Gestral's village is beyond comfy, wish it was real. Those paintbrush motherfuckers are pretty funny.

his boss fight theme goes from instrumental to a version with lyrics and then to a rock version

Fucking kino
These devs really understand videogames

Hate is a loaded word. I think the Lost Odyssey inspiration is apt because just like that game I think E33 is novel, but nothing I would go back to or really stick with me. I have friends that refuse to play anything but Chrono Trigger, FF, Paper Mario, Persona, etc that really got into E33.
Meanwhile we have blowhards in the media holding this up as an example of what the entire genre should be and it's created a situation where people feel the need to push back against that narrative. Which is sad and stupid because from everything I've read from the devs they love the genre and were not trying to eclipse it, just make something they would have fun with while being inspired by games they liked. It's how the system should work, but people are stupid and squander nice things.

The genocide can be undone, just like it was for Sciel and Lune. And it's not like the gestrals aren't lives worth saving as well. I just think adding that whole element of genocide to the ending choice just distracts from the actual themes, and leads me to picking an ending that feels thematically unsatisfying because it's still the moral choice.
Not to mention the whole dichotomy feels forced to begin with. Like don't give me that "we can't hide the painting, she's just going to find it" bullshit. Lock it in a fucking vault

The man all about breaking the cycle

Not breaking the cycle

He would side with Verso. Maelle’s ending is the cycle starting again shown by the fact it starts with the same shots of Lumiere as the beginning of the game

The whole narrative with artists making living worlds and the some conflict they have in real world based on their art form looks like a setup for more games in this setting, which they will likely make considering this one's success.
The problem is that I'm not interested in playing another game with

Everything you were doing from the very beginning amounts to nothing, and everyone involved eats shit

as BOTH endings. No matter how good the writing leading to those is. The target audience for this shit is some brain damaged and demoralized misery porn addicts that want to get even more demoralized because of their brain damage.

Maelle end is a dead end for the Canvas anyways. Renoir, Clea or the Writers will destroy it either way. Verso ending at least Maelle is alive and the family is healing.

bittersweet ambiguous endings is a french hallmark

So....will nobody ask the devs in an interview why gustave looks like robert pattinson and renoir looks like pierce brosnan?

renoir looks like pierce brosnan?

You might be faceblind.
Gustave is also modeled after a dev

Sad stories help you apprciate what you have. I usually don't like fairy tale happy endings.
But the stories don't have to be about painted worlds necessarily, they can be an aspect but it could be a character study of a specific painter, his great grandson quests to learn about him by entering his paintings and getting glimpses into the painter's life at different stages. You can do like 3 different paintings 1 for each act that really change the landscape up as the painter got older and his art became more mature

There is nothing bittersweet about those endings. It is just plain failure and misery for both cases.

uncultured american swine
watch some french new wave arthouse kino first before posting

turning 33 this year

beat the paintress just in time

The target audience for this shit is some brain damaged and demoralized misery porn addicts that want to get even more demoralized because of their brain damage.

So, zoomers? I watched the first episode of a new Black Mirror series the other day and the whole thing was just a boring depressing story that cultimated with the husband killing his wife to put her out of her misery before hanging himself. This is the kind of shit that passes as entertainment for current day spastics.

Just started the game. Have one question. There is an enemy on a side path that one shots my party at the start of the game. Will I be able to return to him later or will I lose out on him if I move on?

Maybe just enjoy the game and don't take the story so overly seriously

Just parry him bro, are you a scrub?

You can return to everything. Just make sure to make a note of it though because that sort of thing might happen a few times until you better understand the mechanics.
You could always just learn the attack patterns and parry everything though

Alicia growing up as a person who shed away her low self-esteem and learn to cope with grief is pure failure and misery

how about you kys yourself you absolute retarded nigger

git gud
The mimes are so of the easiest enemies too

not to sound edgy but genocide isn't inherently wrong, it simply means eradicating a group of people. some groups of people deserve to be eradicated. i'm only bringing this up because you seem really held up on that.
Verso ending was the right choice. sometimes the right choices don't feel good. but they're right.

To be fair is not zoomers fault western entertainment is cuck demoralizing shit, its why anime is so popular in the west

Why do the people of lumiere and the gestrals all deserve to be killed? Why do you weigh one dysfunctional family over the lives of thousands and thousands?

The problem is that I'm not interested in playing another game with

nigger you're making up fake scenarios and getting upset with them. this game just came out, enjoy it. go watch marvel movies if you just want to be obsessed the concept of a future product.

It was very predictable.

I'm 31

I'd be in expedition 33 since the 32 gommage would hit me

rick.jpg - 800x450, 49.24K

A single Painter is worth billions of painted individuals, since a Painter can create myriad Canvases filled with life.

truth-nuke.png - 498x368, 145.72K

people

Will a fast travel option unlock? The pattern isn't hard but the one shot at this point is kinda annoying.
Not the mime. I'm already off the island.

No it fucking wasn't.

They're playing god and drag thousands of innocent lives into their familial disputes. They're not worthy of respect

Alicia
It’s too good

There's some persistent malignant idea that shit like that is "deep" and "intellectual", which is deliberately propagated through mainstream.
Fart huffing pseud faggots who want to feel very smart like fall for it easily, while someone who isn't a retard whose thinking is molded by peer pressure over common sense is aware, that in the end it's just a piece of art which inflicts negative emotions on a viewer. It is something that does harm.

There are many precedents of states concerned about general public well-being having their censorship department to axe shit like this and force to write optimistic conclusions for a media intended for mass public consumption. I suspect that it may work the other way around too. Japan, the most well-known for their love for outright bad ending, is a defeated and humiliated nation under foreign occupation. You can also observe lots of depressing shit fed to enslaved population of USSR. French culture is definitely stronger and older than both of those, however, they had a catastrophic collapse and loss of hegemony once, after which they were successfully targeted by hostile bullshitting for example all that shit about joos that everyone on this site believes first appeared in 19th century France. I won't be surprised, if someone deliberately taught them about how much of a thinking man's enjoyment the pointless misery porn is.

why every developer gotta give women a fucking chiseled jaw liek some greek body builder

Would you guys prefer it if the game only do it's expedition theme until the end without the painter twist?

8585.jpg - 720x526, 67.51K

it's not even a genocide and they aren't killed, they are just returned to chroma form. That chroma will probably be used to paint another painting.
also all of lumière is already gone by the end
would you pick some stranger dumb paintbrush niggers over the daughter you love and the wife you love? Renoir didn't deny that Alicia's expedition friend were indeed valid and very real friends and thus people but he had to make a hard choice. He want to fix his family, he is obsessed by that but he is right as Alicia had the idea to do the same as her mother anyway.

By the time fast travel unlocks you will be 1 shotting anything around that level.
You get a faster movement in the overworld map fairly early though.
Id say once you unlock the ability to swim you can circle back if it really concerns you.

expedition 60 included a bunch of buff 50-59 year olds with maxed out strength who made it all the way to the Monolith WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION, destroyed the barrier with the power of fist, beat the snot out of clea, painting Renoir, painting Alicia, and Aline then the commander swam all the way back to Lumiere by himself, almost beating the next gommage to warn people about the curator

prefer

It's already perfect the way it is, you need to explain what the fuck the fracture is anyway
the whole game slowly give you subtle hints about the truth, you can't have the same game without that twist

Blame the wriggers for this, they caused it. Imagine how many more Canvases they will destroy if the Dessendre family is weak and broken. Clea is a bad bitch but she needs help fighting wriggers.

you cant just live hundreds of years in a paradise where you can create any love interest of your own

you have to go back outside and work a 9-5

nah nigga im stayin in the painting

The Fracture is real Renoir entering the Painting.

Ok meth addict

fast travel

Backtracking is a pain until you get the ability to fly, and even then it's still rather slow to fly from one end of the map to the other.

My point isn't about which ending is better anon. It's that the dichotomy of the endings is poorly constructed, and attaching the fate of lumiere and the world to the decision detracts from the themes about grief and escapism, because you see how we're not talking about that, we're talking about existentialism and the value of lives, when neither of the endings seem particularly interested in that aspect.

I do not consider you to be truly alive. Ergo, I will not be guilty of murder if I kill you.

Arigato anons. Decided to just not get hit.

fuck off Verso

beat the paintess

fatal error

fuck you

Still using GTX cards

so monoco is basically dogshit until you finish the game and can farm all the legs from endless tower?

Canon event

they aren't killed, they are just returned to chroma form. That chroma will probably be used to paint another painting

What if your chroma gets used to paint a tree? I don't wanna be a tree, man.

Get the Sakapatate skills and you're good to go.

i had a fatal error every 5ish hours with my 4090

I know that, but how do you do a game without the twist that it's actually a painting?

there is a nuance between being a neet and maelle's ending
instead of being a comfy neet who has a family and live an otherwise normal life, that neet is addicted to MMO and gacha and self-sabotage themselves and at some point that neet life will end and they will be worse off than how they started it.
There is a time dilatation in the painting, like one day irl is a year in the painting. She will come out after everyone she knows die in 3 month of real time and then what? Do like mommy and recreate those people again?

you've lost the plot anon. it's pretty simple.

continue living in made up fairy tale

or

back to reality

the game does a great job with the ending(s).

That's the spirit!

Yes it was. I knew from the moment we saw the stone corpses of the Expeditions that these people were just mannequins painted to a semblance of life and that all of this was just some kind of twisted fake world gone wrong. At the first meeting of Alicia and Maelle I instantly thought that Maelle was some kind of painted alter ego of Alicia, maybe even her real "soul" separated from her real body. And it was obvious the Paintress wasn't killing everyone with the grommage for a random reason given her posture and the fact that they never established in Lumiere that correlation was causation. So much of this is obvious.

That's weird, I only got it once in my 50 hours playthrough on my 3080ti. This feels like a 4000 problem.

Only now put together why Maelle has an affinity for burns.
Oh, you frenchies.

kino

noooooo I want to enjoy my dru- era canvas in peace, who cares if writers are coming to kill me and my family

Come out of the painting you dumb whores

the two endings make for two different stories
one is the classic heroic tale of saving the world and all that shit
the other ending turn the story into a personal story of someone's struggle with coping with grief and her self-blaming/self-hatred that stunt her growth as a person and painter
just pick which kind of story you want and work your headcanon out of that like "Alicia killed herself" or "Alicia became a talented painter and recreated Lumière"

I refuse to play a turn based RPG without cute girls with big boobs, so I will keep marathoning the Trails series.
And not being a traditional turn based one is high red flag.

She will come out after everyone she knows die in 3 month of real time

okay but in that time she just lived for a hundred years in a world she could theoretically make perfect, even if she died at that point, that life in the canvas was probably better than a full life outside of it

Those things don't allude to the whole outer world Painter vs Writers shit.

This game is fucking awful. Get some taste for Christ's sake

The camera broke after beating Clea and got stuck in this position, so I had to fumble around off camera to find the autosave spot and reload.

1903340_111.jpg - 2560x1440, 621.85K

only happened once to me and it was when I killed some chromatic nigger in the overworld in one-shot

Monoco is god-tier. Best character for buffs and debuffs. Being able to slow down enemies and spam shields is insanely strong, also best character to break enemies.

It's a game written by children. Who gives a shit? It doesn't mean anything

The lives of those in the canvas are sapient beings. The game leaves no room for interpretation there

Chroma seem to be both soul and atoms. Just like how your atoms get replaced over time every few years. I doubt being painted into a very different thing will make you inherit your old soul and consciousness.

You say that like it isn't just an extension of the good old FFTA discourse. Reminder that FFTA released in 2003 and i still fucking saw people argue about it yesterday. 22 fucking years of Marche Discourse anon.

I kept Monoco in my party from the moment I had him. I already had almost every leg by the time I got to the Paintress. Only missing the few from the areas after, and the rematch bosses in the flying manor. Monoco is bro.

one is the classic heroic tale of saving the world and all that shit

It's very much not that. The ending is focused on Maelle's decaying mental state of staying in the canvas. Whether the lives in the canvas are destroyed or restored seems like an afterthought in both endings.

she will live 3months without food or water, this is why being in a painting for too long is dangerous
her social skills will suck because she avoided her actual real life issues instead of accepting her fate and facing the fact that she's not responsible for her brother's death

life in a dream better than life outside of it

True to some degree but still arguable. Going along with that logic, it would mean "just kill yourself high on drug, you'll be happy until the end".

irl clea got pissed at this and fucked your ass/game for it

Lore accurate

IRL Clea would watch Paintclea stabbing herself and suiciding and smile at it.

My save was giving me fatal errors each time I attempted to enter the monolith. I am very glad I could reload an earlier one and my save wasn't bricked.

Painted Clea stabbing herself

Understatement of the century.

It's good the game frequently autosaves and keeps a bunch of the most recent. I got stuck on geometry on three separate occasions and the autosaves saved my ass.

is there anyway to fight the ultimate one again or do you have to wait until you can access the tower?

which twist? mythra or the XB1 connection?

they had a catastrophic collapse and loss of hegemony once

More like a few time, Clovis 1er, Karlemagne, Lious the pius, Philipe August, Louis 14, Napeoleon.
France is one of the oldest nation on earth.

Also " negative emotions on a viewer. It is something that does harm."

Alice can grief and go forward is not a sad ending anon.

I know what I'm gonna say is gonna sound autistic as fuck, but I wish you were never given control outside of the painting.
Even if its just for fake-epilogue, it would've been a cool narrative touch if the player was only ever in control in the world where Maelle felt like she had any control.
Very extreme nitpick tho, otherwise I have no issues with the story really.

Et tu brutus....

ET-TU.png - 1920x1080, 3.26M

There's one in the Monolith and one in the Endless Night Sanctuary.

The XB1 connection. Before release Takahashi said clearly it wasn't 'in the same universe' as 1, so everyone assumed they weren't connected.
Then you play the game and Rex grabs the third sword in chapter 7 and it flashes the ending of Xenoblade 1 across the screen and you go "What the fuck???"
Then Malos starts shouting Monado Arts.
Then the Chapter 10 intro happens.
The Shulk voiceline during the final bossfight.

All fucking amazing scenes that are forever dulled because it's a known fact even among people who never played the series that it's all connected.

monoco needs 50 AP to cast his worst ability

fuckin hell

50ap

explain how the fuck that works

hyperbole

realizing that you're fake and a tool used by real Clea and Renoir, you have your creations stab and hack you to pieces and then literally explode from sheer rage

A wonderful characterization of Clea

Im just at the start act 3 and I understand the twist, but shouldn't there be any reaction form the expedition after they discover they don't exist 'properly'?

Verso knows he is essentially a ghola from dune and I assume there will be a choice at some point regarding if he lives or dies, but the other members don't think about it? Like Sciel should have been mad at Maelle for reviving her and denying her the opportunity to be with her husband in death. Why Lune is so chill about it when she would be the first to try to explore it due to her academic curiosity?

Shouldn't a team member go with Renoir to avoid the destruction of the canvas and his life in exchange for 'being real' outside of the painting? Why are the team members after the twist become suddenly less important (i know there's a sidequest for Lune, Maelle and Monoco but they dont get more to say about their upcoming future)?

Expedition 60 were gigachads

Sciel and Lune having no agency in Act 3 is definitely a weak point in the story.
Unless you headcanon that that's because they're not really the Sciel and Lune from before after Alicia repainted them.

Interesting part, they have been repainted by Alice, so it is possible she remade them without angst because she don't want to deal with it.

do a bit of side content and go to Lumiere at like 65

one shot the boss so hard I don't get to see anything he does

that was honestly disappointing. the game should've communicated more clearly that that whole zone is scaled to doing it directly after entering act 3.

Oh, in that case use your AP tints sir. You get so many of them and you'll only need to do so in boss fights since random enemy packs usually die before you'll need more AP, as long as you use the starter and turn AP luminas

Final boss has less than 800k hp

lol
lmao

Another personal motivation for Gustave is leaving a legacy. He wanted children, Sophie didn't, which led to their break. "For those who come after".

Gustave would realize that Maelle maintaining the Canvas would be temporary. A few decades before she dies, and then Clea and Renoir destroy the Canvas, if they don't pull her out and do it before that.
Destroying Verso's Canvas and having it live on in Alicia's memory as she persists in the real world and paints new Canvases is the only legacy he can hope for.

I must've forgotten it or something, but before Act 3, everybody gommage'd including Maelle.
If that's the case, how did Alicia come back to the canvas? Was that small segment of Alicia waking up in bed her returning back or that's what caused her to become Maelle?

Wait, so I'm not supposed to explore at the beginning of act 3?
I just got the flying ability and was thinking of doing a lap around the map. Should I just go and fight real Renoir?

The only thing that got gommaged was Aline's chroma overlaid on Alicia, which made Maelle.
Maelle is effectively dead in Act 3. What we see is Alicia with Maelle's memories.
Verso's right when he said "I'm not really Verso, and you're not really Maelle."

Yea go unless you want a disappointing anticlimax

You can go explore, but if you want the challenge to remain, turn off Painted Power when you go back to Lumiere.

doing anything optional makes the main story quests extremely trivial, I feel like its basically intended that you do the MSQ then go do all the optionals

Nta but, how did Verso not gommaged with everyone else? Being a creation of Aline too

Final boss is balanced around fighting him right away.

That's what Simon and Endless 11-3 are for. But you can nuke those too if you want. Free will n all that.

enemy has one elemental immunity or absorb

entire Lune elemental genesis build falls apart because she can't generate 4 different stains anymore

it's over

He and the rest of the Painted family are special, which is why they're also immortal.
Painted Alicia and Painted Clea don't get gommaged either.

Yeah that dungeon and bossfight should be level scaled.

Just use the two random stains on free aim shot weapon bro. Elemental Genesis every turn.

But they have angst after being revived.

Lune's sidequest (as far as dialogue has led me to believe, haven't done it yet) will be searching her parents and have some sort of closure. Sciel doesn't have one but her main goal is to revive her husband; if she had changed, she would have been shagging ghola-Verso and Lune wouldn't search for her parents

dont you need 1x of each element to use genesis?

doesn't work if you don't generate 4 different stains m8

you're thinking about mayhem, not genesis

Just keep shooting bro

I meant the ansgt about being a painting.

even when genesis works its 1/100th of the power maelle can do on her first turn

genesis doesnt work half the time

the balance is awful

Yeah, but you just build around spamming free shot to regain AP, and free shot until the slot machine gives you 4 unique ones.

You can add enough effects and "AP on effects" on shots that you can spam 20 free shots per turn.
I've never not gotten 4 unique stains by the end of it.

Have sex with Sciel

New gradient attack unlocked: Doom

Damn, was he really that bad on the bed?

it would be 100% better.
the "real world" is so insanely under-baked that it has no value and you can't possibly care about it.
they destroyed the possibility of an honest straight forward story to pivot to an irrelevant family drama in the last few seconds that they didn't have enough time to develop and explore so it's just a stain that dilutes and derails the story and premise that 99% of the game was spent on.

pivot to an irrelevant family drama in the last few seconds

You missed the majority of the game's subtext, congratulations.

Sprinkles of foreshadowing by characters that are still painted versions do not make the "real world" any less idiotic and under-baked.
just like showing the time jannies in 7R here and there doesn't make them any less of a contrived and idiotic plot device that perfectly encapsulates bad writing.

the writing is kino and a second playthrough really gives all of the dialogue in Act 1 another meaning.

when one falls we continue

Verso dies and the family has to force themselves to move on

for those who come after

The memories of Expedition 33 are now the path and the legacy for Alicia to move forward

They better play this during the goty acceptance speech
youtu.be/Zd-Otblzri0

Comparing this to time jannies is a real retarded take anon.
The real world doesn't need 10 hours of worldbuilding and reveals because they won't add any further relevance to what's been set up specifically for this game. It's about the Dessendre family's cycle of grief.

The real world is just framing, likely one they can use for future games in the Clair Obscur franchise.

I hope the studio stays small and white

It's so weird that they balanced it that way, since social link side quests add a lot of context to Verso actions in final confrontation

Maelle's relationship quest with Painted Alicia is crucial. It shows just how far off the deep end into her self-delusions and Painter arrogance Maelle/Alicia already is.

The Renoir we see for most of the game with the nice ass suit is a creation of the Paintress, correct?

Yes, Black suit Renoir, Black suit Alicia and Verso are creations of the paintress, her ideal versions of her own real family. I guess the last wonder I have in this regard is did Aline/The Paintress genuinely hate Alicia or not?

Who the fuck are “The Writers”? Did they start the fire that killed Verso?

There's a big implication (perhaps for future games) that there's some conflict between the creative arts in 19th century Paris. Between the painters, writers, dancers, musicians etc. At some point the Writers fooled Alicia into doing something which allowed them to burn the painter's manor down, and Verso gave his life to save his sister.

What’s the significance of the Gormage and why does the Paintress need to kill everyone of a certain age? Is it just to count the passage of time since Verso died?

Think of the monolith as The Paintress' Battery before she runs out of power to resist the real Renoir. The expeditioners were figuratively trying to destroy the clock for advancing time.

It's about the Dessendre family's cycle of grief.

We have no reason to give a fuck about that. We spent the whole game fighintg monsters and exploring a world with painted characters.
besides Maels vague, contrived and badly written mutating mishmash of memories/identity which again only comes into play too late in the story.

We don't actually spend any time with the real family members so we don't care about them.

The twist is that nothing was real all along. Brough to you by M. Night Shamalam.

>What’s the significance of the Gormage and why does the Paintress need to kill everyone of a certain age? Is it just to count the passage of time since Verso died?

Why do so many people ask this? It's literally explained at the end cutscene of act 2, how were you not paying attention at such a kino and important cutscene?

wow, the Verso burn stack base attack build synergises so well with Maelles Burning Canvas and drives the damage up to insane numbers!

turns out that a single Stendahl does more damage with no setup

the game's balance sucks.

Where do i even fight this guy?

We don't actually spend any time with the real family members so we don't care about them.

You didn't. You do you I guess.

vague, contrived and badly written

Hard disagree.

Everyone missed the letter somehow. but does it even checkout?
Doesn't everyone whos 33 die when she paints 33? shouldn't she be painting 32 instead to warn that she can only save people that age now?

Act 3, Renoir's Drafts in the sea between the continent and the monolith.
Need Esquie's underwater ability from his relationship quest.

レヌアルのドラフト

Aline's not exactly thinking straight anon.

kek, that was supposed to be 2.5 wasn't it?
But then the devs themselves were posting 3 billion damage hits so maybe not.

PEINDRE L'AMOUR

PEINDRE LA VIE

PLEUER EN COULEUR

SUR LA TOILE NOTRE AMOUR DEMEURE

I wish Esquie was real

It's like they tried to balance it with debuff but forgot OHKO potential

In the end, this could have been prevented if real Verso had some balls and told his parents to fuck off and let him play piano in peace.

download unofficial OST

songs are slightly differently mixed than what's played in-game

I really liked that part.
Painted Alicia:

kill me fuck this shit

Alicia/Maelle:

Here, sure.

Verso:

For the love of everything just erase me already

Alicia/Maelle:

Lolno here is the piano

I dont know whats up but after painted renoir fight most of the major characters turns somehow both into malicious assholes and retards.

Real Verso died at 26yo. Apparently that's what he did, considering it's his only painting.

do Monoco's relationship quests

go to the Sacred River with just Verso and Monoco

have a heartfelt moment as you revive Noco

do the final battle an hour later

kill Monoco, Noco (the guy you just revived), and everyone you know

that was a bit weird

If they included all the variants some songs have, the OST would be like 10-12 hours.

If Alicia agreed to unmake Verso as he asked, then the ending with her staying in the painting would have looked almost good. Can't have that, please understand.

It's mostly Maelle. Because she's no longer Maelle, she's Alicia. Alicia larping as Maelle.
Verso has been broken and confllicted for a long time, and it's only being confronted with Aline's delirium outside the Canvas right at the end that he resolved to truly end the Canvas.

How old was he when he painted it? There are some dialogues that imply that they used to have a great time playing inside the painting

Seems to have been 8-10 or something.

Around 10 yo it seems.

Act 3 is insanely weird because almost all of it is primarily through the pov of Verso. So you do these relationship quests with Sciel, Lune, Monoco, and Esquie and then you're like "actually, fuck this world"

Literally imagine sleeping with Lune, writing a song with her, and then betraying her in the ending lmao

No what I mean here is that Alicia happily erased painted Alicia on the demand with "its what she decided" cope, even Verso confronted her about "hey at least let us goodbye."
When Verso asked for the same she did pretty much opposite and supposedly went out of her way to pretty much psychologically torture him kek. "Its what he decided" my ass.

This game feels really forced on here considering how janky and mid it looks.

In the end, Verso can't resist what is essentially his programming.
Aline created him as a simulacrum of her loving son. The son who sacrificed himself and died to save Alicia.
And it's being confronted with the suffering of Aline and Alicia that causes him to forsake everything else.

So if Aline erased Alicia's memories and turned her into a baby when she entered the painting, was she just expecting her to live her life and be stuck with everyone inside the painting for all those years? That's like 49, 50 years imprisoned inside the painting. It's also interesting that she decided to leave Lumiere with the exoedtition at the same age that she is outside the painting

The more I think about it the more game's narrative kind of shatters after Painted Renoir fight.
Everyone just fucking ignores EVERYTHING. Odd Curator appearance, whole Maelle immortality stripping oddity, nobody confronts Verso about anything, whole group just ignores everything Paintress says, does not ask about anything AGAIN, goes full "fuck it lets go home" instead.
Then we have that weird (both narratively and gameplay-wise) situation where game clearly expects you to rush to a real Renoir, but every quest and narrative state assumes you finish companion relationships to make up for Verso's initial betrayal... for you to grossly overlevel Renoir and betray whole group again. Like whats is even happening.

Something snapped inside of him when he saw the little Verso being forced to paint at the end

He had this "I will fucking end this" stare trough pretty much whole final Renoir confrontation. You'd think he is the one who has a lot to say about whole thing and he just stays there and stares angrily.

Yes. Alicia is a selfish child throwing a tantrum and running away from her guilt. I wish we had more details on how her naivety caused the fire.
Her internal dialogue when she enters the painting: "It would be nice to not be scarred and be able to speak...but I'm not doing it for that...I'm doing it because it's the right thing..."
How she snaps when Verso quotes Renoir at her.

goes full "fuck it lets go home" instead.

Lune did say that there were still many questions to be answered

Whether or not the way he acts has been supported by the plot, it's just very goofy narrative-wise. You have to acknowledge that reviving Noco and then wanting to kill him mere moments later is really odd.

She suicided probably due to her being trapped in hell without her love

Nah, it makes perfect sense once you understand Verso's nature and how he was created, and the century of suffering he's endured.
His final words in the Maelle ending explain it all really. "I don't want this life."

You can see this line of dialogue less than an hour before you choose to end the painted universe.

monoco.png - 1047x183, 235.47K

it's not mocapped right? the cutscenes feel so natural and well acted i dont even know. I've never played a game with such good acting and natural dialogue

Everything about Renoir as a villain was kino.

How the fuck should I slot Maelle so I can one shot Simon Says faggot? I do like 1.5-2.5m damage with Sendhal in Virtuois stance. His shit is unparryable too.

It's mocapped but voices are different from the acting. I am really impressed by the subtle facial emotions displayed. Maelle's facial expressions change after Act 2.

No I mean whole Painted Renoir/Verso thing was so suspicious, and still group went for "yeah fuck it we are still killing paintress". I like how painted Renoir also didnt even attempt to drop a truth nuke on the group, despite it would effectively just stop them instantly without any fight and leave Verso with nothing to manipulate expedition with, probably even turning on his ass.

Would real Verso have wanted a new beginning if it came at the cost of Aline or Alicia being living corpses outside the Canvas?

lc.jpg - 1920x1080, 161.28K

this scene was so kino. all of the character's reactions were good and verso's face tells the whole story
i actually cried at the verso ending like a girl playing FFX

I don't think it was weird at all, he was on full copium mode until the very end where I think Renoir partly made him snap out of it. he was behaving very much like Maelle

You have to acknowledge that reviving Noco and then wanting to kill him

lol what? "wanting" to kill him? bro I'm afraid the story's emotional depth might just be too much for you... or did you miss the part where he seemed extremely sad that he had to "kill" them all?

why is the lipsyncing for French dialog when they hired some semi-noteworthy hollywood actors for the voice actors?

So the most important detail regarding how Verso should act is a literal last minute plot reveal? Good writing

You basically slot everything that says "damage", do 99/99/99 into str and 2 damage stats, then do "1hp virt stance" (to proc low life pictos) into nuke. I dont remember which is better, mark or all the "first hit" passives.
You'd also have to fish for 200% casino proc.

Maelle's facial expressions change after Act 2.

I've noticed this. At first I thought it was just the hair, but they really try to show that Alicia is a different character from Maelle.

a.jpg - 1920x1080, 252.79K

Is there actual content with Clea outside of that one scene before Act 3?
I thought she would show up again.

is there a mod that cleans their filthy faces.
it's bad enough this games screen is always smeared in UE vaseline and artifacts.

So the most important detail regarding how Verso should act is a literal last minute plot reveal? Good writing

...yes? have you, by any chance, ever seen/read a story before?

Don't be dumb. It's his motivation from the very start, it's why he guides the party to the Paintress.
In Act 3 he only holds on to the misguided hope that Verso's Canvas can be kept while Aline stays outside and Alicia only stays a little while.
There's a difference between knowing something and having your face pressed to it. He gets directly confronted with Aline's delirium outside the Canvas, he finally sees how Alicia lies to ehr father, that she's never leaving, that she'll suffer the same fate as Aline, unto death.

So Jennifer English is going to be in something else again, isn't she?
Basically the main character as Shadowheart, and now basically the main character as Maelle.

3 of optional superbosses are about her

No, that's the only scene with Real Clea other than Verso's ending.
There's Painted Clea though.
Haha.

A bowsette thread died for this

Yeah, I think people straight up weren't paying attention to Verso throughout the story. Every time the camera would linger on him when he was starting to dissociate, it was clear that he was grappling with some inner demons and they were winning.

i never played a game in french but im considering it for this. Is the VA good?
french is my first language so i dont care how it sounds to you if you dont speak it - I like playing games in japanese cause it sounds cool but the VA could be total shit i wouldnt know

French dub is pretty good but English is just better. Ben Starr, Jennifer English, Andy Serkis, rest of the cast too. Stellar.

Loved Serkis as Renoir - he played the two versions quite well.

I'm only like 2 hours in, I was gonna ask who Andy Serkis is but googled it. oh shit it's the fucking based old guy from the beach

also I was 100% sure it was timey wimey shit and this "Renoir" was "old Gustave", the only thing I've been spoiled on is Gustave dies at some point

This game is replacing FF TA as vidya's escapism aesop.
Persona 5 Royal tried, but never hit as hard.

When Maelle jumps at Renoir during the final battle, the instrumental part of the song stops and only the vocal "continuer de peindre" is heard

This translate to "keep painting," since Maelle is fighting to keep Verso's Canvas intact

The male vocals then gets cut, and only the female vocals are heard

Is there a part of this game that isn't a cinematographic masterpiece?

tfw.gif - 331x197, 1.72M

Anon, for the love of god, fuck off from Anon Babble and finish the game before coming back.
Gustave is just the start of the ride.

My girlfriend has been sitting on the couch with me while I've been playing. She's into the story but isn't good at video games, so it's been a good time.
She thought Verso and Renoir were both future Gustaves but from different timelines.

Not only is the OST god tier, the way it's used.
All the Sirene variants that seamlessly switch and then blend depending on if you're in the sunny or cave areas of the dungeon, and then the boss theme incorporating that leitmotif in the phase transition.
youtu.be/1KiFMEj7DtQ?list=OLAK5uy_lJbuSXw4Bfo2tDlP6s_CNznTfYGe0GEBM&t=204

maelle is so evil bros, she needs a corrective big bro rape

they learned it from Nier Automata

Yoko Taro creating kino from his influence alone while making mobile games and writing stageplays and putting lore drops on computer cases

bravo Mr. Taro

That final Lumiere stage with that crazy guitar solo going on in the background

Hugs with Maelle

Nier Automata is anime cringe and a terrible glitchy game made by fucking monkeys.
and it didn't invent dynamic music or leitmotifs you fucking idiot.

Nier Automata is midshit for secondaries compared to Nier Gestalt/Replicant but it's still one of the best JRPGs of all time and the devs of COE33 agree, cope more faggot Yoko Taro is a genius

Hoped for Esquie, was dissapointed.

Simon had a hard life.

No boomer suits to lord over them.

Fromage power

How many Pictos are there? I'm at 185.

It turns out the French have been held back for a long time.

the masks bouncing off monoco made me laugh hard

1903340_2163.jpg - 1920x1080, 452.12K

This is it really. They amde what they wanted to make without some marketeers yelling in their ear about trends and target audiences.

Marketeers' job should be to sell a product that devs make. But for years now, same as in the music and film industries, they've switched to trying to force devs to make a product that they think will sell.

Could Gustave lead the expedition to the monolith and end all of this if he didn't die?

So what's up with the manor you enter at several points in the game? It doesn't seem to be the Painted Family's one you can find in Old Lumiere or White Sands. Either that or they just conveniently never seem to be home when you arrive.

i can't fucking believe the killed my little nigga noco

it's still one of the best JRPGs

It has no thought behind the mechanics the RPG shit is so badly designed it actively works against the action mechanics.

I don't know what's up with the one in White Sands.
But the one in Old Lumière was made by Aline, and the one we have doors to throughout the game is either Renoir's or OG Verso's.

should have simply turned off painted power dum dum

this is why Variable RPG stats suck. You can just out-level the game and at that point you're not even seeing enemy attacks. you may as well just turn the game off.
it's even worse in an ARPG or RPG with action mechanics because then they become invalid as you just fucking 1 shot everything and your fun is stolen from you because you did a few side quests.

their romance

There's no romance. Sciel is using Verso. If you ever find a partner that is still stuck on the previous just fucking leave the relationship immediately. No one deserves that shit.

And there were people calling her the "best girl", fucking lol.

The Paintress is a metaphor for Ubisoft holding the devs back

Without The Paintress/Ubisoft, Renoir/The Devs can finally move on from their horrible situation and create a better life.

Verso is an allegory for all the Ubisoft IPs that want to be put out of their misery

Can't believe I ended the game feeling like Clea is the best girl. I want a forbidden romance between her and a Wr*ter

I'd be impressed if someone beats Simon with the damage cap on.
Reminds me of Blizzard thinking they "fixed" the issue from D3 of people doing billions of damage, only for all the % shit to stack any people break the game instantly. The fact no one thought 200% stacking with 200%, like 5+ 50% modifiers, double damage next turn etc is just insane.

You start hitting 9999 before Gustave dies.

Reminder that the director's last game was fucking Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.

I bet there will be turboautists out there doing just that soon enough. It would take like a 100 turns of perfect dodges or less of parries, so I give them about a week or two for this to happen.

rewatch the beach landing scene

notice the brief shot of verso rescuing maelle

seriously fuck this guy. he's been shadowing the party from the very beginning and could have stepped in at any point. instead, he's essentially sabotaging them by deliberately withholding information and allowing gustave to die for his own schizo manipulative reasons. his motivations are entirely self-serving and his last moments before dying/being repainted solidifies it. he's not a hero in this story, he's a villain. gustave deserved better.

clea stop posting on Anon Babble

Who here bald and beautiful?

1903340_310.jpg - 2560x1440, 490.43K

Speaking of beach scene- was this moment just a homage to Eclipse or an actual plagiarism?

image.png - 512x716, 398.88K

Why is nobody wondering how the fuck Expedition 70 got in the monolith?
There's also that other Expedition brute-forcing the barrier with muscles.

Yes anon, an eclipse is plagiarism.

s.png - 2212x925, 1.59M

The ladies love a man who can pull off the bald look.

1903340_311.jpg - 2560x1440, 460.14K

I thought it was Simon breaking the barrier originally, or just that the Paintress didn't have one early on.
Well he did get captured and tortured by an expedition before so he probably doesn't feel TOO attached to them

i want a game with a dessendre family party with clea as the main character bullying alicia and kicking wrigger ass
each party member with their own style of powers based on their creations like cleas nevrons, renoir with the axons and alicia being an untalented fuck probably makes something unoriginal like esquie 2.0

Question. Why did the paintress do the gommage thing? killing off painted people year by year.

his motivations are entirely self-serving

See His entire motivation is ending Aline's, and then Alicia's suffering.
Imagine you were a copy of someone's son after the real you died, inheriting his love for her and memories of her, and you knew what maintaining your existence and that of the world around you was doing to her.
Would you not fuck everyone else over to end your mother's suffering?

im too scared to approach..

1903340_2172.jpg - 1920x1080, 219.39K

When it means erasing thousands of other lives then yes, that is self serving.

What's with this stupid ass question being asked 5 times every thread? Pay attention during Verso reading Alicia's letter ffs. It's spelled out.
youtu.be/owxC9Wdmdo0?t=257

It's not a boss fight. Did you talk with the fading boy before?

When those lives are doomed with no future beyond a few decades anyway and you know it?

You mean the game he made at an opressively abhorrently managed studio turned out to be... Bad?
Wow. This must be his fault.

image0-3.png - 707x790, 1.38M

No, we don't know that

His entire motivation is ending Aline's, and then Alicia's suffering.

a thinly veiled disguise to mask his most important motivation which is wanting to die. if he had to choose between dying or saving alicia, he's going to choose to die 100%. it's just convenient for him that his ending does both

no is he in the area?
i just beat the 3 bitches

What was the name of this area again? I got filtered by the chromatic dancers and left but now I'm much stronger and can't remember where they were.

I dun getit

On the right of the flag, there should be a way that goes on a hill.

I forgot but that area can still be done without anything from Act 3, including the damage cap Picto

siel's ass is insane

We do. Once Aline dies Renoir/Clea destroys the Canvas. Once Alicia dies Renoir/Clea destroys the Canvas. If Renoir and Clea pull either of them out before that, they destroy the Canvas.
Verso's Canvas is doomed in all scenarios.

I know, I've just lost track among all the other side areas I've beaten and seeing the image reminded me that I should go back for revenge.

Renoir gives up on destroying the canvas.

Retard, he only gives up on stopping his daughter.
The second she's dead or out, that canvas will be burned to ash by Renoir or Clea

Clea won't give up. The Wriggers won't give up.

Because he tries to believe Alicia will come back out, even though he knows she's lying.
If she dies, there's no way in hell he doesn't destroy it out of grief. Clea definitely will.

Falling Leaves

Maelle = Maellum

Lune = Lunerim

Sciel = Scielson

Monoco = Monocaro

Verso = Verleso

....

Gustave = Noahram

???

huh.gif - 64x64, 207.29K

Why does the canvas need to be destroyed anyway. Just bury it underground in a random forest or chuck it in a locked vault. For painters they're very uncreative

because Aline and Alicia lack self-control

That doesn't answer my question. They wouldn't be able to access the canvas in either of those cases.

Aline is addicted to the canvas and Alicia is going the same route.

Destroying the root cause is the only sensible choice.

Thanks m8

they have magical painter powers, its said that she will find the painting no matter where its hidden

np

i love watchin cute girls cry to this game

Maelle's ending is totally the good ending bro

e.jpg - 1920x1080, 164.18K

What’s the significance of the Gormage and why does the Paintress need to kill everyone of a certain age? Is it just to count the passage of time since Verso died?

The paintress doesn't kill anyone. She's high on copium and escapism due to losing her son and trying to live with a fake ass family instead of properly accepting the fact that he's gone, so she's actually trying to protect everything inside the canvas. But since her powers are dwindling she can protect less and less people, which the number is alluding to. Real Renoir (the curator) is the one gommaging everything because he wants his wife to stop with her escapism escapades that are actually killing her.

I always thought that this ending felt off the moment it showed all of them alive. It's like Alicia's controlling everybody's lives, especially Verso's.

Why are her people dwindling ?

The really weird thing is Sciel and Lune not convincing Maelle to leave. They saw the same thing as Verso, they saw what's happening to her real body outside.

her powers*

When Nevrons kill expeditioners their chroma gets trapped in their corpses, preventing it from returning to Aline. That's the trap that Clea set up.

You know what i meant anon

Don't get caught up in other people's drama

it's not selfish to make your own choices, sister

You've made strides since I saw you last

don't go backwards

You control your life

if you're not having fun... Do something else

Clea is so incredibly based and truly best girl

Naruhodo, thanks anon

what a sick boss fight

1903340_2176.jpg - 1920x1080, 469.92K

lol what a retard

Untitled.jpg - 1916x1078, 366.63K

Why do versotards hate her so much?

what a gay “game”

not in the official ost release

fucking why?

licensing maybe?
who the fuck knows
its so weird it's not lol

Clea is based and their is a reason a Giga Chad like Simon went to the end of the world for even a painted version of her.

The painters family can objectively only be perceived as evil demiurges who make and unmake worlds populated by sentient entities that can suffer for funsies, and sometimes do terrible things to them over their personal bullshit.
The amount of despair and suffering afflicting the family is nothing compared to the amount of despair and suffering their conflict inflicted on inhabitants of Verso's painting alone. Considering this, I see almost nothing wrong with Maelle's ending, her family deserves much worse than its implication, so they can suck it. The only issue with it is her refusing to unmake Verso as he asked, but it seems to be deliberately forced by writer against the precedent of her willing to do it to other fake family members, because otherwise that ending will simply be too good for the writer's liking.

There's quite a few tracks and variants of tracks (especially Alicia's) that aren't on the OST.

I picked Verso's ending but still think the people in the canvas are real human beans
And that's the dilemma because there's just as much of an argument to make that everything in the canvas is just that, a fake world where everything can be changed at the whim of its creator and nothing is real.
Both endings have merit and there's no clear right or wrong here but overall the Painting does serve as a means of escapism for both Aline and Alicia, while they slowly die in their real world, making the rest of their family suffer instead. You obviously don't have to agree with the methods of trying to get them to face reality like that whole war of attrition between Renoir and Aline that has been going on for 67 years, but to end this endless cycle of grief seems like the most healthy option.

Because they love her so much they do what they do. It's not hate but love. Maelle(Alicia) hates herself and surrounds herself with fake puppet people to cope with her insecurities.

made by ex-ubisoft employees who quit

how fucking embarrassing for ubisoft
the voice acting especially in this game shits all over ass creed shadows' laughable va

The painters family can objectively only be perceived as evil demiurges who make and unmake worlds populated by sentient entities that can suffer for funsies, and sometimes do terrible things to them over their personal bullshit.

That's like saying the people I dream off are real.

Everyone inside the paint is not real.

2D is not real real.

It is explicitly stated in the game that the people in the painting world are as self-aware as ones in real one.

HOW DO I BUILD MONOCO HIS WEAPONS ALL SUCK

Maelle was fine. But Alicia is just extremely unlikeable. Boohoo my face is scarred, I lost an eye and I'm mute, nevermind that it's all because of my own naivety. I will also complain about being the youngest sibling being so terrible, my older sister is so perfect, my dad loves me and believes I can reach the same heights if only I get out of my room.
Oh let me just erase this painted version of me just because she asked, but repaint Verso to keep him beside me in my escapist fantasy while my dad watches my body outside become a living corpse.

It's like saying Cloud Barret and Tifa are real people and by destroying every copy of Final Fantasy 7 on the planet means that you "kill" them in the process. It doesn't work that way.

Joyaro.

Get Joyaro in Act 3 ASAP. In act 2 just cope with other weapons.

goyslop shilled game

normalfag meme

couldn't have made it more obvious, ranjeesh

gommages her doppelganger claiming she only did it because it was the doppelganger's wish

keeps Verso as her eternal puppet even though he literally begs her to end him

Alicia (forma Maelle) is such a hypocrite, I love it. I almost have to think she killed painted Alicia because she didn't want to share her brother.

I have him as a low HP glass cannon, setting my HP low with Cultist Blood.
Apparently there's a one shot build with a lantern attack or something, I didn't look into it.

You sound like the kind of person that thinks 2D drawings are real and that they have ages.

And just like Aline in the game the kind of person that can't separate reality from fiction and would get stuck forever the moment you entered a full dive virtual reality.

You might as well think that the 3D models in this game are real people too. After all they said they are real.

;_;

1903340_2177.jpg - 1920x1080, 321.55K

of course they're real, retard.
if our world was created by God like most believe, would we not be real all of sudden?

Flying appears to be the only way to reach Lumiere. How did the expeditions reach the continent in the first place?

Choose Verso's side

Realize I have Maelle built like a nuclear bomb and I stopped using Verso for a good while so he is extremely underleveled

uh... welp.

symptoms of psychopathy

unnecessary cruelty

need for power, control, dominance

detached, cold, callous demeanor

manipulation tactics for personal gain

uh, cleafags?

hq720.jpg - 686x386, 113.57K

That's what I was wondering too. Seems like there's only that waterfall connecting it to the rest of the world somehow and I doubt they all just drop down and somehow survive the fall?

The 3D models in the game said they are real, are they real people?

you didn't miss him right?

1903340_2111.jpg - 1920x1080, 441.05K

unnecessary cruelty

It's necessary actually

need for power, control, dominance

Never felt that from her

detached, cold, callous demeanor

She's coping

manipulation tactics for personal gain

For her family's gain

Clea is perfect and in the right.

I am arguing from the perspective of the game world's rules explicitly defined in the story, retard.

If that's the perspective anyone will take then it really doesn't matter which set of beings exist, they are both as expendable as the other and it's all down to preference in the end.

Doesn't answer my question ;)

need for power, control, dominance

Actually she says Renoir is a control freak and doesn't like that.
And she tells Alicia/Maelle to make her own decisions and be in control of her own life, that's completely opposite.

idk im barely moving his break bard with dualiste

She does have a vindictive, cruel streak.
What she does to Painted Clea, Simon, and through them the Axon her father made of her too is pretty disturbing.
I suppose she finds those copies of her obscene, but still. Fate worse than erasure.

perfect woman

thank fuck

1903340_2179.jpg - 1920x1080, 491.22K

Yes, she the parents creations were not flattering to say the least. And she also doesn't see painted people as actual human beings. And her way of coping is through reserved anger and work. She is also dealing with all that real life stuff while parents are bickering, which takes its toll.
But she is also the most level headed family member. She is the first to tell Alicia the only way is to erase the canvas and turns out she was right.

Don't care about Maelle and Aline, don't care about the painted people lives, I picked Verso's ending because Verso hated painting and Maelle ending is basically forcing whats left of his souls to do that forever.
Literally hell.

should I?

1903340_2180.jpg - 1920x1080, 242.34K

Depends. Do you want 100 lumina or not? If you want, don't.

OH GOD WHY IS THE MUSIC SO SAD

1903340_2181.jpg - 1920x1080, 475.53K

killing sentient, harmless beings

murderer

I mean, don't kill it.

god i can't get over how amazing this overworld is

1903340_2182.jpg - 1920x1080, 473.27K

i reloaded the save because i felt bad lmao

See things as they are, not how you want them to be

how is one supposed to know that reward is character based? You are the retard here

why does the weapon upgrade screen fuck my cpu so hard lol

Is it just me or in Verso ending it makes more sense for Sciel coming to Verso and gommaging and Lune seething if you romances Sciel?
