Let's settle it for good: Which is the greatest controller ever crafted?

Let's settle it for good: Which is the greatest controller ever crafted?

xbox 360

dualsense

dualshock 4, the only one i can use for 12h a day without issue.

dual sense was a tremendous step back.

Not with that D-pad.

Ok i'm gonna need some opinion on dualsense, i'm about to buy it this month, i have xbox controller but i prefer the symmetrical layout and some anon said it had reliability issue

they're all the shit that comes out of the same factory in china, the 'best' is whichever has the plastic shell that feels nice on your hands and has the sticks on whatever orientation you prefer

Any real gigachads in this thread?

Logitech Rumblepad 2

That's cool, Patrick but you have seen nothing. Check this.

Steam controller or Steam controller 2 when it comes out I guess. It may be cheap as shit, but at least it was the first bucket to bail us out of Xinput hell.
The Duke and the 360 controller were responsible for killing and zombifying:

FPS games

Stealth games

Immersive sims

2D platformers

Character actions games

The Duke and the 360 controller were responsible for creating or popularizing:

Cover based shooters

Rollslop and parryslop

Cinematic games

Games with RPG and Stealth """elements"""

The Xbox controller line is cursed.
If you're not on PS5, just get a Dualshock 4.
The Dualsense can end up failing due to its analog sticks or its triggers.

That wasn't the controller's fault you fucking retard

The PSVITA, and only because of that godly d-pad.

dogshit dpad

Nope

mouse and keyboard

Anon has uncontrollable need to play gears of war whenever he holds a 360 controller

The DS4 was already a step back since it fucked up the sticks and removed pressure sensitivity from all the buttons other than the triggers.

think a little further about how they can deviate in quality, beyond how they feel in your hands and the stick positions. can you think of any other, much more significant differences?

It's shit, it's uncomfortable compared to the older Dualshocks and the sticks still aren't hall effects even in the ultra expensive model. Either get a DS4 or older or get one of the few third party controllers that has the layout and HE sticks.
The sticks for the Dualsense are a problem in particular because they used a mechanism that attempts to rigidly force them back into the centre when not in use which makes them require more force to actuate and more importantly makes them loudly click every time you move them away from the centre which is noticeable if you aren't surrounded by loud ambient noise at all times.

I'm 50/50 on PS4/Steam Controller.
PS4 controller is nearly perfect but
-Lithium Battery instead of AAs
-Touchpad in a REALLY useless position
Steam Controller is CLOSER to perfect but
-Servicing it is a pain in the ass, thumbstick cap is non-standard shape and size, parts are borderline impossible to find
-Even if you get used to using the "DPAD" via haptics it's still really awkward

my beloved white dualshock 3

By the way, it'll feel really fucking weird at first, but if you've had trouble with the steam controller "dpad"
Turn off click to press and turn on haptics for it.

The DS3 was the first major step back. The sticks on the DS2, as I have found out, had built-in calibration.
youtu.be/L2uyeBfFYp8?t=32

Like, genuinely it's most fucking obnoxious shit the thumbstick cap is too short.

I think a Dualsense or Xbox One Controller is all anyone needs for a PC. Sony recently released official drivers for the PC as well, so the whole dualsense isn't compatible with windows thing is a thing of the past.
Arcade sticks are extremely fun for those who play a lot of old/arcade games, and I recommend them for those with money to spare.
Racing wheels, while fun, tend to get left behind if you're not really the type to take racing games seriously, so I recommend caution before buying, even the cheapest ones.
Flight controls - same thing.

>alignment charts are a retarded concept and peak reddit

Vader 4 Pro

oops, didn't mean to quote

Xbox 360 or PS2

pressure sensitivity from all the buttons other than the triggers

pressure sensitive face buttons can go fuck itself

You tried to play Star Ocean 3 on an emulator, didn't you?

the only one i can use for 12h a day without issue.

Which is funny because the battery only lasts for about 4.

What makes the PS3 controller "chaotic good" and the PS2 controller "neutral good"?

Xbone

why show 7 controllers that are basically the same? Best controller is gamecube or saturn 3d pad

xbox elite controller

this for the layout, but the build quality was shit compared to all modern controllers except the switch
nintendo controllers aren't built to last

PS3 feels cheaper and has worse sticks. The gyro gimmick was half-backed but at least it wasn't as retarded as further controller gimmicks Sony introduced.

PS2 gamepad

unironically the wiiu gamepad
lowest latency wireless controller in a consumer device
it's wide, closer to your shoulder width, so it's much more comfortable than puny little "normal" controllers
perfect stick placement
perfect ergonomics
best gyro controls, its weight and width filter out jitters and give you great range of precise motion, thus dynamic precision almost on par with mouse
touchscreen is perfect for menus, text input and other tasks requiring static precision, picking up the slack where gyro falters
the only bad things are short battery life (just keep it plugged in lol) and it being obsolete

wood.jpg - 1920x1080, 257.01K

I know the xbox shortbus has prevented adoption of gyro for 20 yeas, but it's still crazy to me that people act like it's a bad thing to add to the standard controller

nintendo controllers aren't built to last

Mine have been working for more than 20 years
The only gamecube controllers that failed me were the unofficial ones I bought for multiplayer games with my friends
Maybe don't throw them around whenever you lose like a big manbaby?

Most overrated controller of all time

nintendo controllers aren't built to last

Wut. Nintendo controllers are sturdy as hell. They're the only ones that I've had absolutely no issues with over the years sans the joycon and drifting which is a $20 repair job and ridiculously easy to repair

Tell me about it.

missing a bumper

the C Nipple

Dpad is utter trash

Single menu button

Sole claim to fame is being THE controller for worst Smash bros and an Okay extra conttroller for brawl and Mario Kart Wii

it's a fantastic controller for racing games
long travel analog bumpers, fantastic stick with tiny deadzones, perfect face button layout, whether it's f-zero or a full sim it's as good as it gets without getting into wheels

Yeah no not going to let you be a fag like that.
Listing off a gamecube game and trying to claim it works in general

oh my gc controllers still work, they just feel cheap and nasty

saying oops is peak reddit

Listing off a gamecube game

unlike wiiu's gamepad, it works through usb with the adapter, so it's a pc controller and thus you can play anything on it

genuinely don't know why no-one has used the extra click at the end of the trigger for any other controller, it's amazing and has so many obvious uses

I dunno if you'd count it, but I really like how the Vita feels.

Not the point assclap4000

Gamesir Tarantula

What is the lawful good one?

I have dualsense (for pc) but it feels kinda small

Also wanted to get Microsoft one with doodads on the back, but it's overpriced

GC controllers are outliers for nintendo
N64 had a fucking terrible analog stick that wore out
both my switch pro and joy cons are fucked with drift, borderline unusable. it's why I don't play switch any more
GC controllers hold up, though they have the horrible sticky rubber problem many older controllers get.

It's

I want to insert joke about India, but it's made in China

What's the reason for LG?

I have so many controllers, I'm sick of it
Can anyone recommend a good multi-system one?
I game on PC, PS4, Switch and gamecube. I have like 8 controllers and I just want one to replace as many as possible

Anon, that would make the N64 and switch outliers since the NES, SNES, GC, Wii and Wii U didn't present problems for you. Technically the switch wouldn't be either because they're piss easy to repair with hall effects

Switch Pro works on PC so that.

they're piss easy to repair with hall effects

explain

and it fucking sucks and has drift after 2 years
not paying another sixty quid on that piece of shit

Sony controllers have always been shit-tier.

it's perfect

z.png - 756x583, 334.09K

button layout is wrong
no analogue triggers

Not him but there's drop in hall effect sticks you can get for the joycon.
Still feels like cheap crap

Xbox One. Shit console, godtier controller.

ok? not asking about the joy con
hardly going to make that my go-to

Perfect reasoning. You really don't appropriate what you have until you lose it. Going back to Splatoon 1 feels much better after adjusting the Splatoon 2 and the absolute mess of menus in Zelda makes you miss not having the WiiU controller inventory the game was clearly designed for but we never got to see. The one thing I would want is to make it even wider by having handles since my hands feel a bit cramped with everything so close to the side.

Long story short nothing in the joycon are soldered in like standard controllers, it's mostly screws and ribbon cables, so you can just buy a 20 buck gulikit hall effect set for the switch and slap them in with no effort

N64 had a fucking terrible analog stick that wore out

readily available replaceable module

joycons are fucked with drift

readily available replaceable module

switch pro

industry standard stick that gets fucked all the same in competitors' controllers

splatoon gyro controls feel like shit after using the steam controller's gyro
steam controller is GOAT for FPS games, trackpad, gyro and paddles make it unbeatable
I completed doom 2016 on nightmare with it

and it fucking sucks and has drift after 2 years

Bitch every controller since 2013 has had drifting sticks

ds4

i hate 5's shape

zoom zoom pic

Where is the Dreamcast one?

you are a pathetic bootlicking worm
and I never had stick issues in 30 years of gaming like I have had with the switch, and I've never had to buy new sticks
this is ridiculous cope

tell that to my steam controller, dualshocks and ps4 controllers, none of which has stick drift
what is this denialism on this issue, nintendo fanboys are ridiculous
and I love the switch overall, the controller is just a massive shart

I never had stick issues in 30 years of gaming

So what you're saying is that the switch controller is the only controller you've used in the last decade or so.

LIke I saw elsewhere in the thread, I have like 8 controllers and I'm sick of using them all
and the switch ones are the least reliable I've ever had

industry standard stick that gets fucked all the same in competitors' controllers

so you'll just say anything, right?
what a dickrider

ps4 controllers, none of which has stick drift

The DS4 was the first controller with these stick drift issues anon.

analogue on the bottom

good

that shit belongs in chaos

I actually didn't feel a noticeable difference between the Steam Controller and Wii U controller like I did going to the Switch the first time. For PC I just prefer the ergonomics of an analog controller since it feels more comfortable and consistent compared to the track pad. The track pad on PS controllers is also really nice to have on PC since you can bind a lot of things to it. I can play old FPS that only have the number keys for item switching and still get everything in thanks to the track pad. I'd also take back buttons on the same controller if I could get them, but if it is one or the other I'd take the track pad.

what is this denialism on this issue, nintendo fanboys are ridiculous

You do realise you're saying that while denying the stick drift issues on other controllers right? The problem people have with what you're saying is that you're acting as if stick drift is some kind of Nintendo centric issue when the reality is that it's been happening for years before it ever hit Nintendo, the only difference is that Nintendo players aren't ones to take things lying down or memory hole it, which is why Nintendo is currently the only one who not only acknowledged it but is offering free repairs while the others just ignore the issue entirely because they know their loyal players will just buy another

no battery life

shit menu load times

worse than a phone.

lmao

the gamecube controller pushed me to buy adapters for pc before the concept of bluetooth was made standard It's obsolete now but it absolutely is used generally.

I don't know but anyone who says n64 or gamecube unironically should be executed.

this entire thread is a snoy shill thread and I dont even like nintendo much anymore, and havent bought a new system since the Wii.

Only a fucking psychopath could rate the dual shock as higher than anything with the analogue above.

n64 sucks on purpose. Nintendo didn't want gamers to try to play with the D pad and reject the stick.

OG Xbox controller is the only one on that list that was designed for adult sized hands.

Ds4. Haven't tried DS5 yet so maybe it's better. Xbox has always had a weird and gimmicky controller.

Analog triggers

good anything

No

everyone itt forgetting peak

ENTER.png - 1280x1144, 442.59K

it's the exact same stick as in dualshock 4 and many more modern controllers
i would know because i have both and i have re-soldered both of them with new sticks

Chaotic neutral baybee

It was actually pretty comfortable. It's crazy how much we regressed in ergonomics.

GC/Xbox controller design was in the right track but it wasn't until Xbox 360 that perfection was achieved.

no

Is the ps4 controller viable for pc gaming nowadays

It's entirely possible that Nintendo manages to surpass Xbox controller design.

I like the ds4 best, even though I don't like the big rectangle map button in the middle . Ps3 controller felt too floppy and wobbly.

I hate all of them for different reasons it's actually crazy that every single controller is gimped in some major way. Nintendo has digital triggers, Xbox has no gyro, playstation has symmetrical sticks and no battery. All have shitty Alps sticks.

The PS3 pad was the last decent Sony controller, Nintendo's pads are all retarded and Xbox hasn't changed anything since the 360.

It works on most steam games without ds4. Their controller emulator is The fact that nobody includes the option to display ps prompts is annoying tho.

Yeah. Just use Ds4windows if you are having problems (it can also emulate the .1 version in the rare cases it give conflicts.

*without ds4windows etc. Their controller emulator is actually pretty solid.

dualshock 4, the only one i can use for 12h a day

Do you have dementia? The last time you could do that was the PS3 pad. The dualshock 4 lasted for 3-4 hours.

Good to know. Ps prompts?
I'll give it a try. Going to play deaths gambit, as its apparently unplayable on Snoy station.

only four face buttons and two shoulder inputs in 1998 (two less face buttons than their own controller for the Saturn in 1994)

terrible joystick grip that's both uncomfortable and insufficient

cable comes out of the fucking bottom, and the cable isn't long enough to properly account for this (plus the channel to hold the cable near the top is weak)

handles are too thin and slanted inwards

traded away their own awesome D-pad design in favor of a terrible cross D-pad, just to flex that they found a way to bypass Nintendo's still-active patent for them

They basically built the Dreamcast controller off the Saturn 3D Pad, which amazes me because they made it worse in every fucking way possible. Also, visually, the Playskool pastel button colors suck compared to the bolder colors of the JP white Saturn controller.

DS4. Which is crazy because it has so many issues but there is genuinely nothing better as an all purpose, affordable controller.

they're all the shit that comes out of the same factory in china, the 'best' is whichever is the best

Holy reductionist.

The ergonomics of the Xbox 360 controller are still better than anything else I've tried. Had the D-Pad and stick drift not plagued it I wouldn't have hesitated to buy like 30 of them to use them for the rest of my days.

puting 3rd party gameshaaart next to 1st party controllers

Weak attempt at shilling

I don't see any other controller completely upending controller APIs on PC with a brand new, substantially worse API that simply doesn't work with other controllers.
Face it anon, the 360 controller is a massive imposition in any game where you need to interact with objects or move around at more than a snail's pace, necessitating that everything be simplified and context sensitive with as little overlap between different contexts as possible.
It spent years ruining control schemes until Stockholm syndrome set in, it's not even third-best in any game unless the controls for the game are simply nonfunctional.
I just can't help myself my hips just move on their own and before I know it I'm behind a chest-high wall.
Unironically yes. It was half-baked and the default control schemes were usually ass, but it was absolutely the right step forwards.

Split controller for better ergonomics

Motion controls for 3D environments

Referenced tracking on the pointer

If control rebinding was standard, then we wouldn't have been stuck with the obligatory waggling and people would have figured out functional control schemes faster.

The D-pad divot was a great addition and I'm pissed that they killed it with the Dualsense, on top of making it spongier.

I don't know if it is my rusted skills or DS4 D-pad being absolutely ass for fighting games. I tried the CotW beta with it and I gave up.

just use the stick

No!

Supposedly DS4's one of the better ones, but it'd have to be far better than Dualsense's for me to consider it over microswitch or circular d-pads for fighting games. Dualsense is the hardest time I've ever had with intentional diagonals and it still isn't perfect at the left/right test.
