I picked Verso because the real Verso's soul wanted to rest and Alicia needed to face reality, but thinking about it afterwards the world isn't fake just because it's a painting, everyone in there was truly alive. I don't know, it's a fucked situation. If Gustave was alive he would have saved the painting and convinced Alicia to leave but there's still the matter of Verso's soul.

How could you not side with such Iconic, well developed characters as:
*"Real Renoir" - Appears only in the finial 2 cutscenes to yell at you. Seen as a faceless merchant NPC with no lines prior to that too I guess.
*"Real Clea" - you see her in the real world for like 5 seconds and she's a cunt to you.
*"Real Aline" - Also Barely a character but you're supposed to want to "save" her despite the fact she has no development and she doesn't want the painting destroyed either.

Verso ending is good for painted Verso and the piece of soul left of real Verso. It's a good ending for the Dessendre family. Good for Alicia in a short term, not necessary in a long term but that really depends. Personally I think she's strong enough to live on even as a cripple. Bad ending for everyone inside the canvas, Gestrals and the citizens of Lumiere. Kinda fucked up that Verso didn't even ask Lune and Sciel what they would do.
Maelle ending is good for the citizens of Lumiere and Alicia in a short term. But things definitely will get worse for both as Alicia stays longer inside. Terrible for both painted Verso and the real Verso. Probably leads to a complete downfall of Dessendre family because Renoir and Aline won't be able to cope with a lost of another child and Clea will be left all alone with tons of responsibilities.
There is no good end for everyone, but the devs made it clear which one they prefer. That being said, it's not necessary for us to agree with them.
I kinda want a game involving the Writers because there's a lot of schizokino meta shit you could do with people who change reality with writing.

The only good thing about the game is its OST and a handful of VAs, the writing is lackluster and the hamfisted, terribly paced profanity (both english and terribly pronounced french) ruins the few good bits. The plot is a pretty generic and trope-ridden rendition of Plato's cave.
In other word the only good ending is not playing it. It's an okay-ish game to watch a walkthrough of, blind for the OST. I wouldn't recommend it.
A prequel about a previous expedition would make zero sense given that we know the truth and how the story ends. If they want to make a DLC then they could add a new, self contained area to Lumiere with its own plot (and maybe even a new, temporary party member?). For sequel a game about the Writers seems like the obvious choice, but I want them to also delve into the war between the two factions.
