TIE fighters have no shield so they die if anything clipped them

TIE fighters have no shield so they die if anything clipped them

no hyperdrive so they cant go anywhere if the carrier ship gone down

who the fuck would fly one of these?
how did empire even conquered the galaxy?
no wonder a single squad of x-wings were able to blow up the dedstar

how did empire even conquered the galaxy?

Good carriers, loyal soldiers, a lot of alliances with local criminal elements, and an effective fear campaign.

1. The Empire didn't conquer the galaxy, the transition from Republic to Empire was a political coup
2. The only significant military forces in the Republic era were the homefleets of Republic members which were eventually replaced by the Empire
3. It's a numbers game as much as anything, the Empire can afford to put more TIE Fighters into a single engagement than anyone else has ships in total
4. If the enemy can trash whatever the TIEs showed up in, from the Gozanti up to the ISD, the TIEs were likely to survive the fight anyway
5. The Rebels blew up the Death Star because they had a Jedi prodigy taking the shot, an advantage nobody on either side expected

how did empire CONQUERED

they didn't. did you skipped history class in school?

I don't know maybe the fucking giant star destroyers with the giant shield generators and the giant turbolaser batteries and the giant hyperdrives have something to do with it?

Maybe when you have a giant expensive spacecraft intended to win battles on a macro scale you then find a niche for small light strike craft to perform missions more suited to small light craft and come up with a twin ion engine design, and strip out the hyperdrive and shielding to simplify manufacture? Kind of like how the sherman tank used by the american army was relatively poorly armored but because of the ease of manufacture, meaning that 60000 were manufactured over the course of the conflict, when a mission called for a single tank the americans were able to send 5?

TIE fighters have no shield so they die if anything clipped them

Give me the timestamp in the Original Trilogy where anyone says that TIE Fighters don't have shields.

no hyperdrive so they cant go anywhere if the carrier ship gone down

Why would you send starfighters out alone without a support ship?
Do you think fighter jets in real life are sent out without AWACS, ground control, or aircraft carrier support?

my guy.

I was EXTREMELY confused with the prequel politics and so I said fuck it and read a bunch of the (((non-canon))) EU novels - they are great. highlights are really stuff written by Lucino, including Darth Plagueis (the best one), Cloak of Deception, and the the Episode III novelization. I really do want to watch the Clone Wars show but it's way too much of an investment

Tie fighters are meant for fighting goat herders not a peer force.

They're interference for the carriers to operate
Ideally they'd have varied strike teams with their copious bomber and stealth designs but lmao fodder kaboom

loyal soldiers

Why? What does this society ruled by a cackling space warlock do to earn its soldiers' loyalty?

clones are genetically rigged to Palpi as absolute master

Empire had shielded fighterbombers with hyperdrives but they cost so much to make and maintain that TIE Fighters made more sense.

how did empire even conquered the galaxy?

They won the Clone Wars, then cut the budget on military expences.

Never played that star wars mod. I don't particularily care for star wars, does the mod do anything unique or interesting, or is it just a big reskin?

I don't know how it is now but in old canon Tie Fighter pilots that survived missions were the best of the best and arrogant fucks as well. I would be too if I did multiple missions being the only ones to come back from my unit.

but those are during clone war where they are still flying some not x-wing
by the time TIE show up they already use non-clones no?

If you need shields to keep you alive that's a skill issue.

1. The Empire didn't conquer the galaxy, the transition from Republic to Empire was a political coup

It's amazing how this flies over people's head and how palpatine was playing the absolute long game of creating problems, taking advantage of a corrupt system that fights for the status quo at all costs, and then later claims he could solve the problems and have people happily hand over their freedom in the process
Good job mimicking real life.

I'm looking forward to getting to this. I read Plagueis not too long ago, and it was amazing, I'm interested in getting to this and the TPM novelization, which George apparently gave almost complete freedom to the author to mess with including adding deleted scenes and what not. Terry Brooks' writing on his meeting with George is really interesting. Apparently George always was heavily involved with the movie novelizations.

Tie fighters lack of shields ensures only the best of the best are those still flying, comparatively the Rebels use of shields mean they keep giving a crutch to bad pilots

how did empire even conquered the galaxy?

Did you not watch the movies, dumbass?

smaller and cheaper

literally zero armor

no self-sealing fuel tanks to prevent fires

only defense is being really agile

YAMATO DAMASHII

Is the mod any good?

This. It's a difference in doctrine. The X-Wing is made for asymmetrical warfare. It's shields, incorporated maintenance droid and hyperdrive make it more self sufficient, which is what you want for a craft that should be able to operate from any environment including areas with little to no infrastructure. It can do hit and run attacks and retreat into hyperspace to hide out in some asteroid or backwater planet, and can operate even without a fleet supporting it. That means even if a rebel fleet is defeated the X-Wings and other craft that have similar capabilities like the Y-Wing can scatter and still cause problems for the Imperial forces. The Empire's doctrine on the other hand is all about the Star Destroyer. The Star Destroyer is the Empire's main source of force projection. The Tie fighter exists solely to screen and support the star destroyer. It is cheap to mass produce and serves its purpose as a fighter adequately. It doesn't need the shields for survivability because the Empire has the numbers advantage and has plenty of bodies to throw in the meat grinder (as opposed to the Rebels who need to protect skilled pilots as much as possible). It doesn't need a maintenance droid or a hyperdrive since the star destroyer provides those capabilities for them.

a political coup

They quite literally voted for it.

invent new powerful starfighter with hyperdrive

grand admiral in charge of it stages a coup

defeat his forces with even more advanced starfighter developed by another grand admiral

IT KEEPS HAPPENING

Weren't they also THE most agile craft in the setting? Maybe only behind a couple specific droids?

its mostly reskin but the meta kinda shift too
mostly with the use of torpedos
the game become more carrier base since almost every big ship can carry like tons of fighters
So when AI field dozen X/A/Y wings so you better have hundred of TIE to screen and intercept all those topedos

Is that just one of those transport ship with guns strapped to it and a couple more wings

This fucker made A-Wing missions in X-Wing terrifying.

using the mod from your own example, 1 X-wing costs the same as 3-5 tie fighters. And those tie fighters will beat that x-wing every single time even without a shield.
but you're right imperial fighters are basically chaff for their destroyers and capital ships.
their escort frigates buck break x-wings like crazy.

its a great mod. probably one of the better space combat experiences if you liked the tie fighter games.

I want to try SWI but which faction is more fun to play?
I tried bounty hunter before but it suck ass
I didnt realize before but those story questline really help you jumpstart into a new play through

Is there scripts on the mod's side to stop the universe from crumbling in disrepair due to egosoft incompetence? I think that's my biggest issue with the base game in general.

>so you better have hundred of TIE to screen and intercept all those topedos

Star Destroyers flooding the area with TIEs like they're flack

my guy.

zoomzoom

Palpatine just doesn't feel like every other establishment politician ok, he gets me

nice, enjoy anon. to be quite honest I was never much of a Star Wars fan until reading and delving into the prequel world. Don't get me wrong I watched all the movies, but I think the prequel universe is pretty nice and built up. The politics and especially Palpatine's manipulations are great. I also read the TPM and Clone Wars novelizations and no shade to those authors but: Terry Brooks's version of TPM is very basic, simplistic, simple, etc. A good read for sure, but fairly light. Salvatore's writing for Ep II felt so very much like the movie itself, I feel he must have gotten the screen play for Ep II and just made a book out of it.

palpatine.png - 626x391, 556.02K

Only because Palpatine spent years creating both the issues that would get the Senate to give him all the powers he asked for but the political alliances that got him into the position of Supreme Chancellor in the first place.

I mean, Valorum gets fired over his supposed incompetence over handling an issue on Naboo and then the Senator from Naboo just happens to get elected his replacement. There's coincidence and there's someone blatantly manipulating the notoriously corrupt Senate to advance himself.

this long without it

For shame

TIE.jpg - 1780x1040, 262.81K

That's good to know with those novelizations. I know they aren't all ROTS tier, but it does still seem like they're worth reading. I've also heard that the ROTJ novelization is on the same tier as ROTS, and that ESB is like AOTC, but ANH's novelization sounds fascinating because it's like a time-capsule of Star Wars right before its setting and overall philosophy got set in stone. Regarding the prequel era, I've read a lot of post ROTJ novels, and I'm not terribly knowledgeable about prequel novels so I'm just diving in and I'm really enjoying it. I'm getting close to reading Maul Lockdown and then a few scholastic novels. There is so much content from the EU I think it could take years to read it all at a steady pace and the clone wars era specifically is packed with stuff to read.

reading the comic version of Splinter of the Mind's Eye before understanding it was THE first entry into what would one day become the EU, made before ESB was even a twinkle in Lucas' eye

What a fucking ride that was

Seems like StarWars is pretty anti-democracy by pointing out stuff like this.

The Arc 170 was also designed as a versitile, long range, self sufficient fighter bomber but Imperial doctrine was not about that so a fighter that far outclassed everything else was shit on, while the V wing was pushed since it was lighter, faster, and cheaper. The arc 170 could spend weeks in enemy space on a recon mission, come back, and have details on everything waiting for you ahead of the jump, but they don't need that if they're just jumping in and throwing as many fighters as they can carry at every problem

Original trilogy ships suck
Prequels ones are so much better

wow you blumpfard chud, george's screed against bush is actually hecking based

The diplomatic barge second on the top row is my Star Wars shipfu. Those huge engines are sexy as fuck and it moves like it's properly heavy.

Original trilogy ships suck

Fuck you

Prequels ones are so much better

They are pottery, their designs are reflective of each other.

TIE Crawler

So it's a tank with no armor and no turret and a giant window in the front? What's the point?

To run over Rebel scum, obviously

images.jpg - 274x184, 11.26K

what mod? Is this modded SW Squadrons???

that's by definition still not a coup, you might as well call it rape if you're going to twist the meaning of words

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-coup
A self-coup, also called an autocoup (from Spanish autogolpe) or coup from the top, is a form of coup d'état in which a political leader, having come to power through legal means, stays in power illegally through the actions of themselves or their supporters.[1] The leader may dissolve or render powerless the national legislature and unlawfully assume extraordinary powers. Other measures may include annulling the constitution, suspending civil courts, and having the head of government assume dictatorial powers.[2][3]

fair enough

So did getting shocked fuck up Palpatine's face, or did he always look like that and had just been hiding it with the Force until a chance opened up to reveal his real face?

That's been a matter of debate for a while. I don't think it was ever definitively stated, though I remember Rise of Darth Vader stating that his scarred face wasn't actually anything new.

they're meant to be like japanese zero planes

Looks like a mod for X4: Foundations

The only way it makes sense is if it was stripping the illusion. Luke gets shocked a lot in episode 6 and it doesn't change him.

Why does this sound so familiar? Hmmmmm

It's "Lucas absolutely had to have Palpatine look like he did in the OT by the end of Revenge and really couldn't think of anything better". Like "Anakin absolutely had to be in the Vader suit so he immediately loses three limbs and chars like a barbeque in the space of 20 seconds".

Imagine wanting to be a Jedi when Sith are infinitely cooler.

1244560.png - 2160x1080, 2.03M

Say it

X-wings and most of the smaller rebel craft tended to explode instantly the moment anything hit them too.

I'm torn. Filoni and his retcons were retarded, but him selling SW saved the EU from the 2015 on culture war retardation and left it a time capsule.

I always assumed it was a combo of him using his sith powers and getting a face full of lightening at the same time.
Since you can use the lightening like Dooku and get shocked like Luke. But it's the combo and the fact he probably went full POWER in desperation that fucked up his face.

And English, apparently.

Imagine a TIE-Fighter remake with the fidelity of these models.

Eh, jedi can have sex too, they just aren't allowed to get attached to the people they are fucking.
Anakin could have dicked down padme all he wanted and no jedi would give a shit, but the fact that he fell in love with her is what was used by palpatine to force him to the dark side.

Blowing up an enemy craft in space while following them at mach 2 or whatever from 200 feet away

Without shields

With that gigantic canopy

It always bothered me how TIE fighters NEVER get blown up/damaged by debris of the stuff they just made explode.

Lucas said multiple times that the fall of the Republic was based on the fall of the Roman Republic. Bush was a corrupt asshole, but the closest he did was the whole 'If you aren't with us, you're against us' sith absolutism.
Current guy on the other hand, is a much bigger dictator wannabe who's going to self coup himself into ending democracy outright in America mirror what happened to the fall of the republic.
