Why aren't you playing a JRPG right now?

Why aren't you playing a JRPG right now?

Because the last game I finished was Library of Ruina and it was really long so I don't want to play another long game for a while.

maybe six of those are worth reccomending the rest is sloppa

But I am.

PS5

Since those obviously aren't games, what are they?

I just bought VVengence, i'll give it a whirl in a month once exam season is over

I'm playing Phantasy Star Nova right now

12 JRPGs and a Le'Rpg

P3 Reload Episode Aigis PURE Rougelike Experience except for enemy spongyness sometimes

Because there's too much downtime and shit dialogue

Does PS5 finally have games?

Played too many shitty ones and realized I don't actually like the genre

E33 sold more than metaflop lol

I loved playing both and I don't look at sales numbers.

66f-1.jpg - 680x763, 33.41K

I already played them all

Too busy wasting time in FFXIV. I'll continue playing Fantasian or SMT1 when things get calmer though.

My whole life I've tried getting into JRPGs but I always get bored out of my gourd halfway through them.
It doesn't help that the voice acting is usually awful and the NPC chatter is inane mundanities half the time "oh my friend was mistaken for a worker now he's working the mines hohoho what hijinks aren't you glad you spent time talking to me??" NO bitch god you guys are so worthless.
The only JRPGs I tend to finish are on the shorter side like the first few Final Fantasies and Chrono Trigger, helps that they don't have any voice acting either.

I'm playing the French RPG that shall not be named. After that I'll finally play the Star Ocean remake since it's on sale for thirty bucks right now.

Why aren't you playing a JRPG right now?

But I am though. I'm having a lot of fun.

I've finished SaGa Frontier 2 remastered some weeks ago, nothing good came out ever since.

I'm actually getting towards the end of Xenoblade 3. It's alright or even good at times. I'm sure some autist or schizo is going to say how I'm playing the game wrong and I'm a literal nazi for not fellating the game (or how it's incorrect to enjoy it whatsoever). I'll okay the DLC after I'm done with the main campaign and all the sidequests. Seems like it might be kind of hard to tell when exactly it is that I've 'done everything' though. Probably when all towns affinity levels are maxed out and all the ascension quests are done.

Funny how you had to include XenoX cause PS5 doesnt have any good games.

JRPGs sucks. Most turn based RPG sucks. Except Paper Mario. He cool.

Clair Obscure and JRPG are an oxymoron, no matter how many delusional retards repeat it, it will never ever be true.

Lunar

Based I'm playing Silver Star right now

muh sales

Wrong website Chang

JRPG does not mean it come from Japan. Nobody believe that. You do not have a term for games from a small island and the rest are WRPG. Make no sense. JRPG is a type of gameplay. There is nothing special about Japan making a game that it need it's own genre.

Jrpg is not a type of gameplay. Turn based is the gameplay. You are a retarded zoomer.

But 33 does have all of the requisite features of a JRPG, which isn't exclusive to Japan

Yeah, and JRPG mean turn based. If I tell you the game is a JRPG, you expect a Final Fantasy type. Not Witcher or Dragon Age.
JRPG is a Turn based RPG, usually 4 dudes in a row. JRPG is a bad term in general, but if it exist, then Expedition is a JRPG. Just like Wakfu is an Anime

I have had sex

Do Western Fire Emblem-likes count?

Because ARPGs are better.

I prefer erpgs.

JRPG does not mean it come from Japan

That is literally all it means. The "RPG" part of the initialism already describes the gameplay elements/mechanics, so the prefixing part of the initialism (e.g. W, J) specifies the location.
Your "definition" of JRPG doesn't even exist; it's so vague and subjective that it becomes completely useless for categorisation purposes, the one point of making the distinction between RPGs in the first place.

I've been playing Xenoblade X. Good game. I've been taking it excessively slow though because of just how much side content there is. I haven't even unlocked my mechs yet, thats how fucking slow I'm going.

who cares, i like both, and im glad that they both exist. jrpg chads are eating good with how many good games we have gotten recently.

muh jrpgs have to be japanese retard again

kek.
doesn't matter how many times you cry about it loser. no one in their right mind will call Dark Souls a JRPG.

A strategy game with RPG characters and an RPG story so I think it should count
Although, I'm not really enjoying the story much, and the map design is straight up dogshit, but I saw some gameplay of the sequel and it looks way better so I'm forcing myself through the first game

file.png - 1632x1632, 393.51K

Anyone who uses JRPG for a non Japanese RPG deserves the rope. You can be JRPG inspired, but you are not a JRPG if you are made outside of JP.

How would you describe clair obscur then?

Nobody would call Dark Souls a JRPG because it's not even an RPG in the first place, it's an action adventure game series

I bought Persona 3 remake months ago and still haven't started it
Every week I tell myself I'll start it for sure this time

an RPG? Again, not made in Japan, thus not a JRPG. Maybe you could call it an FRPG since it was made in France.

The majority of the game is experienced in sidequests, I'd say you're okay ingredients the 'right way'. There's only a couple missions in the early game I'd recommend holding of on doing (Hope mission in Cauldros is one of them). Otherwise, I had a lot of fun doing every bit of side story I could find before moving on to the next main chapter mission.

Say you're playing the game** the right way.
Jesus christ I stroked out

The problem is "rpg" is too wide a term, if I want to play a game like clair obscur and just search "rpg" on steam I get everything from witcher 3 to bg3 to stardew valley
I search jrpg and pretty much every game on the list is way closer to clair obscur
I get what you're saying about it not being japanese but we don't have a good way to describe the genre without using the word "japanese" even when the game isn't actually from japan

You could easily find similar games without using JRPG. In fact, using Steam as an example makes you look retarded, because you can literally just search up turn-based combat on steam as its own tag, plus adding on plenty of other tags/genres/sub-genres. If its not from Japan, its not a JRPG. simple as that.

im not trans

search turn based combat

get card games

doesn't work
i could combine 50 different tags to describe jrpgs without using the word jrpg or i could just search the jrpg tag and get what i want instantly

file.png - 861x877, 201.06K

you dont have to be in France to make french toast so quit overthinking everything like a regard

I inherently dislike genres that are based around storytelling.

but the game ratio

Unless the ratio is one hundred quintillion hours of gameplay, for every microsecond of exposition, hard pass.

xb3.webm - 600x336, 2.94M

You still will get games that (You) wouldn't call a JRPG in the mix if you use the JRPG tag on steam. For example, Nier Automata shows up on Steam when you JUST use the JRPG tag despite it being an Action game. So if anything, using JRPG is worse then using more specific tags like Turn-Based combat.

I've never played LUNAR before. Is the remaster any good?

JRPG does not mean it come from Japan

It does, its the only meaning for this tag.

JRPG is a type of gameplay. There is nothing special about Japan making a game that it need it's own genre.

JRPG is not a "type of gameplay" when your entire gameplay was inspired and built upon from Wizardry which is not a Japanese games, then you can't call it JRPG gameplay.

Correct there is nothing special about it, but Japan produces a lot of RPGs that all play very similar thats why this tag sticks on them during the 90s and 00s but now they stopped rehashing the same shit.

The funny thing is that gameplay style they made? its not Japanese at all.

This is why the whole JRPG is a genre or a Style is bullshit and makes no sense.

Forget that many modern games made in the west nowadays have the same "proclaimed" features of a JRPG which renders the whole thing pointless.

However as retarded as JRPG sounds, WRPG is even more retarded term

my point is that people use the term jrpg in a certain way so, whether or not they're right to call rpgs not from japan jrpgs, its faster and easier to just go along with it because those non-japanese jrpg-likes are among the types of things i'm looking for when i want to play a jrpg
also french toast is from rome originally

i'd call nier automata an action game with jrpg elements, so it's close enough for me to not really care about its inclusion in the jrpg tag

well if "wizardy-like" becomes popular as a tag i'll switch to using that, for now jrpg gives me what i'm looking for

i'd call nier automata an action game with jrpg elements

You opinions are hereby discarded

how would you describe the difference between neir automata and, say, doom then?
jrpg elements is good enough for me
none of these things have to be exact, we're not writing a dictionary we're describing game genres, the purpose of describing genres like this is just to help people find similar games and it's always going to be a little bit subjective so i don't see why you can't just say the term "jrpg" is good enough and then move on

but i'm playing star ocean 6 post game, checkmate

Nier is a ARPG, both games. Wow so fucking hard anon. As I said, your opinions are discarded.

I'm still waiting for them to make a good one.

okay, since you're not even gonna read what i post past the first sentence i guess the conversation is over

that's my picture OP wtf

I also conveniently left out rebirth and 16 from the stack because they're both shit, especially 16, what a disaster, wonder what yoshipiss is thinking now after E33's success.

I was supposed to get a copy but didnt realize it would sell out immediately and I had to import it, so I got lazy, good thing I already played the game on PS1, I love Silver Star Story, enjoy anon.

you're a retard
the phrase evolved to mean a specific genre over time, it long ago stopped meaning "any rpg made in japan"

saga minstrel song remastered
its a bit daunting

it didn't tho

Nier is a ARPG

no it isn't, because arpg is again a phrase that stopped meaning the literal definition of its component words and instead came to mean a genre
arpgs = diablo
that's it, anything that isn't a game like diablo is not an arpg

Not as much of a retard as you, evidently. The meaning never changed; it has always and will always refer to exclusively RPGs made in Japan. Bet you think Avatar is anime as well. What a laugh.

Coz i've been playing em non stop since 1992.
You just reach a point after a while where you've seen it all.

nta but Nier is an action rpg, you absolute donkey.

I am playing Dragon Warrior but this green dragon keeps killing me

but its not an arpg, he's right, arpgs are hacknslash games like diablo

its my picture now

I didn't give you permission to save it

Xenoblade and metaphor are slop

Is it just me, or was Yakuza 7 better than Infinite Wealth? The brand new locale is cool and all, but 7 felt a lot more focused. Infinite Wealth is almost overstuffed to the point of exhaustion.

play xenoblade 2, its pretty much the best game in the entire switch library

I agree, 7 is better. They should not have done dual protag with Kiryu. I was hoping Kiryu would have at least had a party that made sense for his final hurrah like a majima, saejima, akiyama, daigo group but that would have been better off as a standalone title instead of bogging down infinite wealth.

i'll be joining you soon.
just got in for calamitas civitatis

Name a VR JRPG? Not gonna wait.

I'm playing Trails right now though

haha...

apparently the lunar remaster was amazon exclusive and so scalpers basically bought the entire stock because it wasn't much.
Supposedly the CEO of the publisher says they are printing more

Patrician taste

You don't have lunar collection or legend of heroes games. Nice games though.

yeah i know, they did some reprints at a Canadian e-tailer that are also backordered, I just don't have the inclination to keep up with stock matters these days

I only have these

8 is way better from a gameplay point of view. The plot is more questionable with the decision to split it between the two protagonists. Kiryu's side of the game should have either been its own game or part of Gaiden. I can see and get why people would prefer 7 to it, but I like 8 more overall.

the gameplay for infinite wealth is a huge improvement and for that reason alone I would call it a better game. 7 without a doubt has a better story though

P5R. The beginning where you enter Maruki's palace with Kasumi and Akechi is great. Visually beautiful, good music, Goro acting like a psychopath, Kasumi's model and animations are so beautiful. Just lovely.

happy for you bud, there's not many of your kind left (people who actually enjoy video games)

They need to stop blue balling and give her to me. I'm gonna flip.

p5 bb.jpg - 1726x947, 412.67K

I stick to action RPGs, "four niggas in a row" combat is gay. Double gay, in fact.

wrong. souls games are more JRPG than E33.

I stick to action RPGs

name 5

I also conveniently left out rebirth

FF7 Rebirth and E33 are the only good JRPGs out there.
99% of your stack is garbage tranime shit.

I don't feel like it!

jack.jpg - 827x981, 53.16K

nah, rebirth sucks and is a slap in the face of all OG FF7 fans. Fuck Nomura.

Characters with interesting motivations, motives, goals but it's not le 2deep4u fake nerdy loser specific dialogue garbage so gamers make the mistake of not crucifying bad games when you got constant peak like this.
punk DMC RE Morrowtrash type

Never mind lol. You have most of the legend of heroes games.

I tried playing Persona 3 but man, as a 29 years old it's really hard for me to get into a story set in school. I really should've played that game when my friend recommended it to me back in middle school.

I was able to get a copy from videogamesplus here in canada. Been playing the collection. I'm on Lunar 2.

I played Persona 3 a few months after my Dad died and I remember liking it, but I have no desire to play P4 or even P5.

it probably resonated with you because the game is all about death. playing it at a young age actually helped me a lot with dealing with grief in my later life

Not sure what you mean but I've tried a lot of jrpgs in the last 3-ish years and I found I'm very picky, I dropped them at a ratio of about 5:1.
P5 amazed me at first since I haven't played Persona before, but it still has flaws, it's hard to find a game in this genre that is perfect and doesn't have anything tedious. Progression and pacing issues might be the most common problem.

punk DMC RE Morrowtrash type

Better than:

boss battle

set up the way (developer) wants me to set up, with buffs and debuffs.

if I don't win, level grind for a little while with gay random battles

win because I'm leveled enough AND set up the way (devs) want me to set up

Wow, so challenging.
Sorry, I don't have the patience to level grind for guaranteed wins, I get nothing out of it.

I started Breath of Fire for the first time the other day, and I’m not far at all but I like it more than its reputation lets on. I don’t even have a party yet so there’s a ton of time for everything to go wrong, but the battles are surprisingly snappy and it looks pretty good.
The translation is ridiculous with how abbreviated some items are, though.

80% of these games are so easy my mom can beat them and the 20% that aren't I already played

replaying Blue Reflection. Its easy but god damn the fanservice is great and just a reminder of how much we lost and how its not coming back

I am, I'm playing 2. I finished the final boss on Expedition 33 today, so now I have all the postgame super bosses and optional dungeons to do, and then I've also been playing SMTIV on my 3ds for about an hour every night before falling asleep.

Starting from the top:

romancing saga

based, play the last remnant too if you haven't

I'm interested in the last remnant and lost odyssey, they dont seem convenient to acquire tho
