Is this better than xbox controller?

is this better than xbox controller?

it's fucking chinese

its got hall sticks and gyro and back buttons... but the whole shell is designed around tiny hands so its uncomfortable which ruins it
so no

so is the xbox controller
don't tell me you never noticed the "made in china" on it

but the whole shell is designed around tiny hands

How are you having a problem with the 8bitdo but not the Xbox when they're the same size

why are americans so racist against chinese

xbox looks better but the hardware is much better on 8bitdo
hard to choose

Xbox has much wider deeper grips. It's hard to see visually but it's a huge difference in feel.

The cold war never ended. Amerifats can't help but seethe when they see a communist country succeeded

bold of you to assume mutts think
it's just propaganda

I'm not really a fan, but some would say so. Probably an easier rec just for things like hall effect and gyro anyway.

that infographic is retarded considering there's horosho controlleres that have 50hz scanrate

China’s about as communist as North Korea is democratic or a republic.

The xbox controller is made for tiny hands, too. There's a fucking reason they've been called xbox kiddies for decades, and why Nintendo eventually adopted the xbox shape and layout.
The playstation controller is much better shaped for adult hands.

Don't agree, Switch Pro controller is very comfy and I have bear paws. Excited for Switch Pro 2.

Thanks doc

how would i know
i play with superior peripherie aka mouse and keyboard

me too but i bought one for persona and i wanted to try zelda

Xbox one etc controller is smaller grips than a ps4 controller. i swear nobody has ever used one, and i dont blame them since xbox is trash

is there a controller with decent stick quality where it doesnt start randomly click down and make me crouch when i'm playing elden ring
that shit makes me mald

is literally the same shit but cheaper and you cant swap batteries if you run out of battery life in the middle of a game

those dont have batteries tf are you talking about

No. I can't stand 8bitdo's buttons and d-pads.

the official website says it has a 1000mAh battery, meanwhile consumer grade AA batteries like eneloop pro have around 2600mAh

Never had a problem with 8bitdo Pro 2

I bought the Sn30Pro from 8Bitdo only to never get close to their products again. That controller is complete garbage.
Since that piece of junk was praised by retards on the Internet, I don't trust anyone else who says 8Bitdo is decent.

That controller is complete garbage

whats so bad about it?

Get a Pro 2 then because that does have a swappable battery compartment that accepts AAs

i have one, i get around 50 hours of use per charge meanwhile other controllers get around 15 hours max because of their internal battery

I don't think the Xbox branded ones have Gyro. Just the Switch ones

file.png - 800x800, 378.17K

Oversensitive diagonals (haven't personally had a problem with this in Super Metroid and Mega Man Zero 4) but it's fixable with electrical tape No I'm not saying it's a good thing you can fix it
Some people say sticky buttons after a while, have also never had a problem with this; would be user error in any case, membrane + button tech only gets sticky if you spill something on your controller
My own personal gripe with it is they stopped selling the SFC/EU SNES and US SNES colorways because of Nintendo grumbling, but I have one or two of the old shells laying around and I can swap the hall effect version's guts into it no problem, besides that I feel like domed sticks would be more era appropriate than DS4/Dualsense sticks but I can also still fix that with Dualsense Edge stick knockoffs from Amazon

I'm talking about pic related (there are other versions of the SN30Pro). The problem with it is the horrible dpad, which makes it practically useless for 2D games that require a minimum of precision in the inputs, and the face buttons, which have a very poor click and movement, it looks like one of those toys for babies to press buttons randomly and not a controller that you expect to use for hundreds of hours. It also wears out extremely quickly, I didn't remember the buttons being so bad when I bought it, but today after using it for about 400-500 hours I can't even use it, which is why the controller in the photo is kind of disgusting, by the way, it had been lying around getting dust for several months.

1.jpg - 964x721, 145.96K

it looks like one of those toys for babies to press buttons randomly and not a controller that you expect to use for hundreds of hours.

What?

sounds like you wanted to buy an arcade stick but bought a low budget membrane controller instead

I can't explain how bad it feels to press the face buttons and I tried to find an analogy. Have you ever seen baby toys that have buttons, and cranks, and various things for the baby to operate? Things that have no function other than to make a “click click”? That's how I feel about the buttons on my Sn30Pro, they feel terrible when you press them, like they're broken.

Note: and if you're playing games that require you to press the button several times, it can also be a problem because there's something wrong with the engineering of this controller when it comes to the process of the button returning to its initial position after it's been pressed.

I already have an arcade stick. I bought the Sn30Pro because I didn't want to buy an official Pro Controller for my Switch and I believed the reviews that said it was good. The only advantage of the SN30Pro is that it replaces the pro controller since it has things like gyroscopes, bluetooth, and all these extra features.

can you play Grand Theft Auto V with it?

All the NSO controllers are really really solid and it makes me mad I keep paypigging for them as a collector and an emulation fanatic. I do need to find the Famicom versions of those controllers on eBay and I'm gonna get a Gamecube controller later.

pretty sure it can handle dvd menus just fine

Your Eneloop is 2600mAh at 1.2V (3.12 watt-hour) while the 1000mAh is at 3.6V (3.6 watt-hour).
True that 2 of the AA will have more energy but you should know how battery capacity works.

He didn't redeem a gameSAAR poocyclone #2

ngmi

it's a good controller but the d-pad is absolutely abysmal, so if you're looking to play something where you need accurate inputs i would go with an xbox

then its perfect for RPG enthusiasts

no, no matter how much we wish it wasn't the case, the regular xbox core is the best design
you could put some hall effect joysticks in one but that shit simply takes too much time

I'm waiting on Gamesaar's wired controller to see if they learned their lesson on microswitch buttons and d-pads fucking sucking. Maybe that Xbox branded Tarantula Pro.

the regular xbox core is the best design

the dpad is in an awful position, you need to angle the thumb in a weird position to play most games, not even old gen controllers like the snes or saturn have this retarded problem

Complete shit because you need to use the rail to charge. They need to make a revised version with USB-C charging, and then I'll consider buying one.

Is the saarclone 2's dpad actually bad? I was expecting it to act like the xbone controller's.

Will hurt your hands and thumbs with those sharp corners/buttons.

Those would obviously go in the -2 (Bad) tier, I don't see why they're relevant.

real gamers game until IT HURTS

Haven't tried the Cyclone 2 and can't say anything about it. I loathed the Tarantula Pro's d-pad, it's *under*sensitive on diagonals and the microswitches don't feel good. Give me dome switches under membranes or pure membranes, or give me death.

So bend over then

And it's tiny even for manlet hands, you're going to get hand cramps

Cyclone 2's is accurate in all eight directions, but it weirdly has pretravel, and a circular base for easier diagonals would've been nice (they're still alright, easier than a Dualsense). I'd consider it good enough for fighting games and shmups, it just has a strange feel to it that can be off-putting.

yes, I just replaced my xbox sex controller not too long ago with that controller.
xbox started slightly drifting, and the usb port got fucked up. And no way I was going to keep using the shit bluetooth connection

i have the ultimate and i've never had to charge it i just put it on the stand
looks like garbage

hall effect is great. Only reason I've ever considered one of these. The controller ergonomics themselves suck ass. Wish they'd put hall effect into regular controllers, but that'd mean less sales because of stick drift.

I have one and no complaints, bought it because my xbox controller got bad stick drift.
Maybe i was just unlucky but none of my 360 controllers ever got it and i used them way more.

i've never had to charge it i just put it on the stand

the stand is a charger

well no shit retard

When people say sticky buttons they probably mean torn rubber, which prevents them from springing back up. The conductive rubbers 8bitdo uses are rather brittle, they're the only brand I've ever had button rubbers tear with.

No. Not if you have European hands, it was clearly designed for Asian men who have tiny little girl hands

The switch ones don't have anolog trigger tho do they?

no xinput over BT
garbage

and for what

I think every 8bitdo with grips is analog. It's the SNES sized and smaller controllers that are digital.

analog triggers and rumble
it presents itsself as a dinput device over bluetooth, meaning you have to use the 2.4G dongle and take a sizable battery life hit

ah ok, i was just assuming because with has digital triggers, that 3rd party controllers would all do the same.
Digital triggers are gay asf

because with has digital triggers

because SWITCH****

I like it. Size took a little time to adjust too, but really its not far off from an xbox controller
I am a big stickler for back buttons though

Why would it be?
Xbox controllers are fucking perfect these days.

Back buttons
Gyro
Mapping software
Charging dock

It has analog triggers for Xinput/PC/Android etc. but it changes to digital triggers and uses that analog axis for gyro when connected to a Switch

I mean even in that pic you can clearly see it's smaller, but whatever rocks you're boat I guess?

I got the ultimate version. While it feels worse, it has had no defects in the last 2 years, whereas the last 4 xbone controllers I bought all has some problem in 6-12 months.
So yeah, I like it more. It holds a charge for a long time, so that's nice. I just wish they made one for bigger hands, either that or xbawks gets some goddamn quality control.

20 bucks for the controller

my friend recommended it to me and i think i might buy it for rematch

I have both and the xbox controller has thicker, girthier grips, just like my dick.

Despite the company name and design schemes, 8Bitdo isn't actually oriented towards Nintendo compatibility. Their older controllers had a variety of input modes, but they've been trimming down to just xinput and dinput with more recent releases, with occasional Switch input over bluetooth specifically on the side.

uses that analog axis for gyro when connected to a Switch

So its not actually gyro?

he thinks it's only Americans

Nobody likes them. Not even other Asians.

It is proper gyro
Xinput doesn't have support for gyro so one of those input axes is used to report the analog triggers instead
Switch doesn't have support for analog so that same axis is used to report the gyroscope instead

For me it's the Flydigi Vader 4 Pro.

I got one after going through an 8bitdo and a Gulikit and having build quality issues with both. It's a BIT pricier but it feels very premium and has some nice features (like adjustable stick tension). The only thing I really dislike is that the charge dock doesn't "snap in" the way the 8bitdo's does, you have to sort of line it up properly when you set it down.

who the fuck cares about asians i'm european
ds4 works with dinput and analog triggers
rumble fucking sucks i want gyro

battery life hit

what are you using it on a phone?

Get a Pro 2

I have one and it has dogshit latency when wireless. It's like 18 ms.

the controller itself takes a battery life hit
I use mine on PC.
says right in the manual it gets 33 hours over BT, 19 on 2.4G

when are you faggots going to learn that all of your gay little toys get made in the same damn place? no fucking shit it's chinese.

Hell it has worse wired latency than most wireless controllers. I don't know what the fuck they did with that thing but the hardware (firmware?) on their wireless symmetricals is horrible.

All controllers, yes even your overpriced Dual Sense is made in China.

Some valve rep on steam forums said that the Ultimate 2 is gonna get Steam input support.

because it has polling rate of 66hz on bluetooth and 200hz on 2.4ghz dumbass
how the fuck do you even run out of battery it comes with a fucking charger stand
i have original BT and i'm replacing it and probably getting the refresh since it's much better the original runs at like 100-200hz

Charging dock

Pro, it takes like 15 seconds to swap out your eneloops.

hurr, but I can charge it overnight

and if you forget? What if you're playing for longer than ~6 hours and your controller dies on you? You're boned.

There’s a difference between made in China and designed in China though

yeah the difference is the one designed in china will give you hall effect analogs

*Taiwan

The hall effect refresh only swapped out the sticks, it's still laggy with 60-90hz polling. Apparently the wired-only version got a hall effect version too now though, which going by previous controllers is probably fine on that front.

Some valve rep on steam forums said that the Ultimate 2 is gonna get Steam input support.

Nice, it'll be fucking rad to play Mass Effect trilogy again with all the skills mapped to the different buttons. It was such a weird limitation to lock controllers to only 3.

BT had hall effect sticks since day 1 i'm talking about ultimate 2 2.4ghz which polls at 1k
2C performs better but i need back paddles idk how tf do consolebabbies even manage to play on controller without those

Hope you don't mind me sliding in (you) too~ ;3

We were talking about Pro 2, not Ultimate.

there is no mention of pro 2 in the chain of replies moron who are you trying to fool
symmetrical monkeys not welcome itt

well i'm blind
still gtfo my thread

is there a controller for right handed people? using the left hand to move with the dpad doesnt feel natural

Depends on the game.

The controller itself works and feels great, but I am CONSTANTLY fighting with it to connect to the right fucking device. More than once I have had to remove it from my steam deck, reset my deck, connect the controller to something else (my phone), disconnect it from my phone, then connect it to my deck again. I wish it didn't suck because it's a GREAT controller otherwise.

No gyro

LITERALLY WHO GIVES A FUCK BESIDES SPLATROONS.

Why does their latest model only do windows/android or windows/switch? Their previous one worked on literally every single platform. Windows/android/switch/macOS. What the fuck is their fucking problem?

cat_stare.jpg - 720x833, 119.69K

thats not even a dpad, thats just 4 buttons

it now typically separates it into switch, directinput, and xinput
you don't actually need android modes or macOS omdesgmans

had a stroke and Anon Babble decided to put my captcha in the message box instead. you hate to see it

so steam controller is the goat? why is it on the far right?

Thanks for the clarification. Either way, it still doesn't make sense why they made a regression like this. The previous supported all 3, there is no reason to make 2 identical products, differentiated solely by arbitrarily axed support that they proved was doable on a previous generation product.

Hey I've got one in the same color. Comfy controller.

because now you have to buy two models if you want to game, and that means making double the money

Suck for picrel reasons;
They do not sell a EU/famicon coloured version, instead, they sell those buttons separately, exclusively from their website, in miss-matched pairs, and they are always out of stock.
what in the fuck

sn30buttons.png - 1298x832, 194.54K

*Hong Kong

includes 1red, 1green, 1 blue, 1 yellow.

Nvm the 'missmathed pairs' comment, im retarded and didnt read.

They do not sell a EU/famicon coloured version

omg who cares, just buy a famicon controller if you like them that much

The us versions buttons look like grape flavoured chewable vitimins. its gay.
The US version was made boring on purpose due to market fears surrounding the video game crash, it should never have been made in that form.

americans like boring slop and nintendo capitalized on it with their toys

picture me surprised

That pic related shape is perfect, always loved the DS2/3 shape, when is it coming out?

It was supposed to this month but there's been no word on it, might be delayed due to tariffs impacting their marketbase. Keep eyes peeled on 8bitdo as well, they were also supposed to announce a Pro 3 this month.

Released a day or two ago in the chinese market.
It's also full membrane, apparently.

I'll definitely have to check it out.

full membrane

Oh thank God.

why don't any of these companies do microswitch dpad + membrane face buttons
switches add nothing to face buttons
membranes are more prone to accidental diagonals on d-pads
but they either go all in on one or the other, or go completely ass backwards with membrane d-pad + microswitch buttons (2023 gamesir mainly)
8bitdo ultimate 2c and ultimate 2 are the closest with membrane buttons and tactile d-pad, but they still have comparatively wide surface area for actuation compared to microswitches

PS layout

works on every platform unlike the "ultimate" trash that arbitrarily splits compatibility

hall effect

membrane, so no annoyingly loud controller you can play in peaceful quiet at night

my dream controller. the aesthetics and shape are not really for me, but that is easily forgivable for everything else it offers

works on every platform unlike the "ultimate" trash that arbitrarily splits compatibility

mine works on everything

sorry not the first generation. that one is pretty nice. the ultimate 2 split compatibility into two separate products for no good reason desu. but it has more buttons, tmj joysticks, hall effect triggers, and a couple of other nice upgrades. if it didn't downgrade compatibility it would be amazing. at this point i will probably just buy the first gen

Oh that's really interesting, that's actually how Playstation designs their own controllers, a wafer-thin "sheet" PCB with membranes over it.

I got the cheap 30 dollar 2c ultimate
0 complains so far. Been making people ragequit on preecha and kevin in fatal fury

idk bro i want to buy the new one but if the fucking thing doesnt support switch mode with gyro i will send napalm to their hq

8bitdodo lmao

Yes, one is designed around planned obsolescence so you have to keep buying them and the other is an actual product meant to last. American products are the cheap garbage now.

I have an SN30pro by 8bitdo and it the dpad sucks. It constantly pushes diagonals when holding forward if you're not holding it at a precise straight angle and that just kills its main purpose for me which was retro games.
I'm not playing shooters with those horribly placed sticks

Does gyro work for yuz/ryuji and rpcs? If so, I will buy. Someone tell me please.

Never used an 8bitdo for it, but it should for any controller with gyro.

Works fine for me with an 8bitdo Pro 2 put into Switch mode, don't even need to futz with it or set up a CEMUhook server or anything, it just werks. Ultimate should most likely just werk too.

I have a DS4 but the fucking stick is fucked. The left stick, only in the up direction, never goes past 70%, so it's literally the worst possible kind of stick problem. I can never run full speed up or forward, just walk. It makes any and all games literally unplayable. Potentiometers fucking suck major cock and fuck all console makers for still using them. If these 3rd party controllers have working gyro for them, this will be a massive load off my shoulders. It's the second one that had stick problems.
Thank you very much. Hopefully it works in rpcs too, but if not... I'll manage.

>membrane, so no annoyingly loud controller

how often is this actually true
first party sony's always been quiet, but I feel like most of my membrane controllers are as loud or louder than the microswitch ones

Pelican
Madcatz
Nyko
PDP
PowerA
Nuby
This is what real dogshit looks like
8bitdoo is ok

I recall having a Nyko Wii remote that felt like total dogshit, can confirm

8Bitdo's better than all of those (fuck Madcatz and Pelican holy shit), but I find them hard to recommend over
Gamesir
Bigbig Won
Flydigi
PXN
IINE
Fantech
Shanwan
unless there's a nice sale like the $14 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C on Amazon the last couple days, you (usually) aren't beating that in price:perf

Fucking love it when shit uses AA batts.
But how easily can you replace the analog modules? (which only last about as long as a pack of AA's, these days)

Pro 2s have hall effect analogs by default, you shouldn't need to replace them
If for some reason you do and you're not just returning the controller or something, desolder and resolder with whatever hall effect or TMR analog sticks you can find, same difficulty as an analog replacement for any other controller

desolder and resolder

same difficulty as an analog replacement for any other controller

Did you even look at picrel?
Also late model dualshock 3's featured analog modules that were only held in by rubber plugs

Why are these greedy companies still soldering in disposable components.
And no, hall effects dont last forever, thats a meme. They still suffer wear, just a bit less.

Out of curiosity is there somewhere that lists the stick specs for third party controllers? First party all has different pinouts and voltages so even buying hall effect or TMR replacements requires specific stick modules, but I don't know how those correlate with third party controllers if they do.

if it doesnt support gyro in emus (too many good games need it to work at important parts) then its useless. so many of those are axiomatically not good enough

Literally every one of those brands has gyro offerings

cringe star wars controller

kys

Edge isn't even in the same conversation, those are replaceable by design not that it's actually good for you the consumer that it's the case, that's Sony wanting you to buy stick modules as a pseudo subscription service
When I say "any other controller" I mean "any other controller that doesn't have a fuckwit Sony design", soldered straight to the PCB or on a replaceable module with a ZIF connector like the good lord intended
Plebbit may be your best bet on this, I don't recall any such resource existing off the very top of my head. Fun fact though that nobody quite knows fucking why all the first-party controllers have different stick pinouts and voltages when they're all using identical stick parts

D-pad is marginally better than the original controller's, it's close enough in all other respects

A lot of them work with Switch, but the PS3 'lator sixaxis gyro doesn't work with any controller except the official ones. I get why, but it's still disappointing that you're forced to buy Sony's dogshit for that.

Sony wanting you to buy stick modules as a pseudo subscription service

Yeh, i get that, its as bad as using proprietary battery backs instead of AA's (which they also do)

Late model dualshock 3 did use normal modules tho, its just held into a ribbon cable by rubber plugs, obviously the best design, solder is gay.

and when are you chink sympathizers learn that a product completely made in china has no restrictions on how cheap they can make them? They are forced by the client (Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony etc) to use materials that they have asked for

do you ever get tired of spouting this stupid bullshit

8bitdo grip angle is meant for Asians and children. It's not meant for real adult males.

>membrane, so no annoyingly loud controller you can play in peaceful quiet at night

using the night to play videogames like a loser instead of just sleeping

Even more annoying that it's not even consistent within the same brand, they just change it seemingly arbitrarily between controllers. Dualsense and Switch Pro are the only two with the same pinout+voltage between this gen and last gen, but the actual pin placements are still different so they might not fit each others' PCBs anyway. Wanted to get a bulk order of TMR sticks before the de minimis repeal to have something on hand for Switch Pro 2 among other things, but there was no guarantee of compatibility with other products.

I wish they made a version of the Vader 4 with the stick resistance adjustment from the Apex 4. I don't need to be able to adjust that on the fly, I'd rather set it with the screw and not have those rings around the sticks.

Has anyone tried cracking one of those modules open, to see if they can be re-used, for when they inevitably get discontinued?

What if you're playing for longer than ~6 hours and your controller dies on you?

i take a break and read a book or something

Yes they can be reused, they're completely identical analog sticks to what's used on a normal Dualsense, old stick in the module can be desoldered and a new one soldered in place

I guess thats atleast slightly better than risking fucking up your controllers main board :

Yeah ultimately if you want a stick with any durability you're pretty much forced to solder in a hall effect or TMR stick, no getting around it.

k-silver releases a new capacitive stick module

not for individual sale

used in a single budget controller with absurd stick resolution and great latency three months ago

never used again

wonder what was up with that

i wish there was a controller that had an adjustable grip angle. i always find the grips are too close together, and it makes my wrists hurt after a while

no i used it for a week then went back to my dual shock, the TMR sticks have zero friction which I expected but still had to feel how 'icy' are for myself, also the dpad is obscenely close to the right analog stick. i like the trigger & trigger lock but thats about it
