BLM cast times and timers got removed because the Job wouldn't be able to do jack shit in several of the current raid fights. Trying to do early Sprong but am getting filtered by the 7hit/stupid fast additional sabotage. Went to get Momo, and have a shield loop for buffer but I'm not sure it's worth losing the extra damage for the protection unless I can stack like 10 shields.
The pictos/lumia system is also really fun for just tinkering and fucking about which wouldn't work in action as much either. Getting everything to satisfying click in place, being able to make slight adjustments for a boss fight I don't think can be fully replicated.

The anniversary for Guild Wars 1 happened somewhat recently so I went back to fuck around in it for the first time in well over a decade to see what they did for the event and made a new Messmer since I had never tried it.
Holy fuck it was so much more fun and involving to play than any job left in XIV, interrupting and counter spelling, setting up dot damage and debuff hexs to pop with other skills at the last second for big damage, it was essentially everything I had hoped Bard's or Red Mage's rotation would've evolved into, minus their support stuff.
I'd already been long done with XIV but it was just an extra kick in the head reminder of the dumbing down of everything I was putting up with before.

This peaked with Shadowbringers, which was considered on par with the mainline titles in terms of quality. Yes, the gameplay was MMO slop, but that came with the territory, so people were coping that it was just a necessity of the genre and that if Yoshida ever got his hands on an offline mainline game, he would bring back turn-based combat too, especially since he claims absolute classics of turn based combat as his favorites, such as TO.
Then he actually gets his chance, and he immediately uses it to make a cinematic actionslop game, and publicly and smugly insults everyone who disagrees with that direction. The two that break the mold are a DQ game, which is not Final Fantasy, and an imaginary game that doesn't exist. III, IV, V, and VI(at least the pre-WoR part of the game). That is Final Fantasy. Those are the lines they have to re-learn how to color within. I leave it up to you if you'd like to include I, as it's prototypical yet dated. VII, VIII, and IX retain some of the spark, but the character of the PS era games was notably shifted.

XV had some good bones, it was just horribly mismanaged and disappointing. The game engine can do some pretty nice stuff, but the only place in the entire game where it's actually utilized to do more than fighting on flat ground or corridors is in the secret platforming dungeon.
Then there's the utterly retarded way the plot is presented, the incredible environments reduced to one time set dressing because they have literally zero content associated with them and the painfully easy and as generic as can be side quests.
Despite all this it somehow managed to be less boring than XVI.
