Should bosses be skippable?

What?

Games are skippable. Why does it bother you?

only if there's an actual gameplay way to skip the boss. like solving a puzzle, doing a side quest to get the "fuck you" macguffin to destroy it in a cutscene or better yet just through clever dialogue options.

ree I hate journalists

yeah sure but video games should have the same functionality of movies and books letting you skip to any point from a fresh save.

I'm going to skip this thread.

sure why not. i don't like bosses. messes up the flow of the game. but there's usually cheats and stuff you can find online, so whatever

depends on the game i know some people will say no absolutely not but again.. depends on the game.. for example in souls games you usually can more or less skip like half the bosses

At this point you should just watch a movie

bosses? entire games should be skippable

comparing a skip of pointless thjng like a diversity hire mandated stealth section to a skip of the meat part of the game

yes but all of those require effort. Just add shitty stealth section we put just for this, it doesn't not work half of the time, its more frustrating than the boss fight itself and honestly its more luck than anything for you be able to pass without a fight.

Devs should skip working on video games and only need to receive money from gamers.

Making a mandatory boss fight skippable because you're a bitch is the worst possible solution to this problem
If game devs want to accommodate journalists and lazy dad gamers they could design their game's progression in a way that makes the boss fight as a whole optional provided that the player finds a legitimate alternative to fighting the boss
That way you can earn a "skip" while still having the players engage with the gameplay through exploration and other means

What is with people wanting to play games but not actually play the game? Just watch a playthrough on youtube at that point.

Kotaku

opinion discarded

nice AI article, Kotaku never disappoints

boss fight

run past him and close the door on him

Denton'd

this skip thing goes both ways. you should be able to skip everything: grindy parts. walk and talk parts. the bosses you don't like. the backtracking parts. from a fresh install you should be able to go back into a game and fight the final boss. you bought it. why not?
btw the random shit about 'diversity hire'- idpol obsessed. get help.

They made journalist mode specifically for losers in shittaku. Its already skipping the boss fights for you on that mode

Should bosses be skippable?

No.

This is not an opinion.

They've been talking about it for years, but is there even a single game that did it? Not a boss you can circumvent or is optional, something like a game where the boss fights just flat open with the option to skip to the victory cutscene.

Why dont they just go watch a movie?

Maybe do have the ability to replay missions. I can't imagine the benefit of starting from the middle of a book or movie (or game) unless your pursuit is mostly academic, you're mentally ill, or you have poor time-management skills.

I'd only agree with you if there was no development opportunity cost to implementing this function (there always is).

boss fight

"no."

Games are skippable.

Indeed they are, nobody needs to play them.

Should bosses be skippable?

Since games are skippable, the bosses already are skippable. Kotaku isn't sending their best, many such cases!

No.

Skipping bosses should have consequences.

Death Stranding 2

you've never in your life lost your save somehow? or replayed a game on a new platform where your save isn't compatible with?

There shouldn't be bosses in the first place.

Has there ever been a more Kotaku headline?

Kek

Games are skippable.

There is at least one game when you can skip every mission if you fail enough times

"shorter games for full price is good!"

"this game doesn't respect my time"

"easy mode is a good thing, I play games to relax"

things like this seem to pander to
people who clearly don't want to let go of gaming, why not get a new hobby

Shorter games are good though. And they should respect my time and not be number go up farm sims. Easy mode is fine too, you can pick whatever you want.

"Bosses" were always shitty bottlenecks, the real fight should be against multiple opponents and an elite opponent (boss), which doesn't imply making the fight easy, quite the opposite.
Making ALL bosses, giant aoe spammers is just crap design.

Freespace 2, if you count large warships as bosses. Because you can skip any mission if you fail or die enough times

How about skippable walk and talk segments YOU GODDAMN FUCKING NIGGERS

If it's an RPG or a game where fighting everything isn't the point, sure. If it's an action game, no.

Dark Souls should get an easy mode

Just skip the whole game. Fine you beat the game, yay good job now fuck off.

if you can skip bosses by doing certain quests/abusing the game like , that's fine. skipping a boss from a yes no menu is gay and retarded
regardless its a stupid discussion

Skips viewing journo articles. I bet they'd change their tune then and say it's mandatory.

bosses are a test to see if you are paying attention to what the game has been teaching you
if you can't beat it, you aren't worthy

No, I think cutscenes and forced slow-walking segments should be skippable. But that's like racist or something idk

this, cutscenes should ALWAYS be skippable. especially if it's not the 1st time viewing it.

It's just journalists having to finish the game quickly for their review. Actual people don't think thay way (I hope)

didn't we already have journalists talking about skipping or removing boss fights entirely around the mass effect 3 era

no, gameplay elements should not be skippable ever, why would you want less game? just play something else

dialogues, cutscenes, voiceovers, any lore/story dump should all be skippable

games are for the gameplay, every other thing they include like the story or character development is a shittier version of what you can get elsewhere

playing a videogame for the story is like paying a whore for a hug

Just put a bunch of mines on the stairs and trigger him

Didn't Axiom Verge 2 try this and it killed the "franchise"?

no, gameplay elements should not be skippable ever

it always struck me as odd that WoWfags pay to skip their game and this option is universally seen as a good thing amongst the playerbase
imagine paying to not only play a boring game, but pay extra to skip over it

I hope Kotaku goes bankrupt soon. Imagine writing this drivel and expecting people to read it
