I bought a Meta Quest 3 at the beginning of the year, and I still only take it out of its case like once a month and watch porn on it.
Bought the Bobo strap and battery pack and everything. As cool as VR is, I never feel like playing it. Anyone else feel this way?

I have Half Life: Alyx on Steam as well as that Batman game that came with the device.
I haven't started up game either, though. I don't have any space in my room and the house is rarely empty enough for me to just go setup in the living room.
I've mainly used it for normie shit like watching movies and I also did some VRchat with some friends and that was pretty interesting, but it gave me a headache after a while.

What are the specs going to be like? Pretty much no point if same as the Steam Deck. The whole point of the Steam Deck is portability, and I already have a gaming laptop.

That the only good VR display is micro oled which places you near the $2000 category when you have all the bells and whistles, and deckard is only supposed to be $1200. oled has mura and poor brightness through pancake lenses, if you did LCD, it would need to be fald like quest pro which doesn't have enough zones, runs hot and needed more fans that made it thicker and
it uses lots of power, the "through the lens" comparisons on youtube were unimpressive.

Alyx doesn't require much space unless you throw grenades with your arm instead of launching them. Cant you just stand at the foot of your bed?

Nope. I've got my Q3 on the side of my desk and I play 2-3hrs daily on it. Takes 5sec to put on and connect to my PC. I clocked in like 3000hrs total of VR in 2years I think.
Always some games or mods I want to play and online vr lobbies are a breath of fresh hair compared to the soulless bot shit you get in flat games like when playing mmos with 4 other dudes that don't talk at all.

Also I know probably nobody from Valve is reading this, and they've basically completely conceded that SteamHome probably won't go anywhere.
But I really DO hope someone gets bitten by a bug and realizes that SteamHome can actually be good.
They can do shit like integrating the SteamLink/Remote play shit in it, and having a virtual lobby for couch co-op with your friends, and actually handing developer tools to people that make shit, because as cool as it is that you can load up the Artisan homeworld from Spyro and decorate it with trophies from your games and some of the licensed stuff from other VR games, I think there would be significant improvements and actual usage of the fairly in depth IO systems in Steam Home if developers could get their hands on it without having to dedicate an entire Windows installation to it and could make stuff for MORE than JUST VR users.

Do you not find that it give you any headache or eye strain? I get some of that after a couple hours with it.

I'm pretty sure it drops you in it if you exit a game but for a while it just loads you into the Void until you exit a game.
That being said, Steam Home does kind of still have a point as a launcher for VR games.

I really don't like the whole overlay from the steamvr interface. It's laggy or slow and while you get a few knobs to turn to change settings it's not worth the hassle at all. Virtual Desktop made VR so frictionless for me.
Double tap a button to go in and out of VR and see you're desktop and that's pretty much what I always use to start my games.

Not that anon but no, I don't use a bobo halo headstrap though, just a normal kiwi one. VR will make a headache you already have worse though. I don't get eye strain with a quest 2 which has worse fresnel lenses.

Sometimes my back hurts, and sometimes the facial pressure bothers me and sometimes it doesn't. The comfort is worse if I don't play VR for a while.

Headset weight is a real issue. It's not an issue when all of VR is novel to you or you're playing a good game for the first time. But just the casual everyday play session is not comfortable. VR also needs more seated experiences and flat game enhancements, but that would all be wasted if the headsets remained 500-600 grams and your tv was just more comfortable.

It's also an issue for devs who need to keep headsets on so they don't go insane taking them on and off. I guess they could just buy BSBs for everyone at this point though

The problem with seated games is you still want to move your chair to the middle of the room so that you can rotate all around you freely. So it still requires a setup, it's not any easier to plug and play than stand up games. Unless it's a straight up flat game played on a flat controller, then you don't need to move

I think I'd get a VR headset if they were very light, wireless, >120 fov, perfect blacks, 120 fps, <500 dollars and worked perfectly with all normal glasses (or could be ordered with custom made lenses for my prescription). I haven't really followed the field since the times I used the DK2 and the Vive but I've got a feeling there's no product that has all these properties.

IMO VR is limited by the fact that most actual video games aren't really helped by it. I had so much fun playing Elite Dangerous with a joystick on my DK2 but that's pretty niche. Most other viable experiences are either voyeurism, things that require you to stand up to act within a pitifully small area of a video game environment, or stuff like chatrooms which I'm too shy to use.

VR systems will probably get many more new customers when the technology merges with AR and the headsets can render our AI chatbot friends in front of us as actual sovereign 3D avatars that accept audio, video and text input and react to everything you do. Either as an AR experience or where you can prompt an AI to make your environment and you just enter with your chatbot it as if it were a game.

I mean take the iphone as an example - there is nothing to improve for now. The AI features were a flop because it's just a basic LLM 'guessing'. Once we get into hologram and skynet territory you will see huge changes
