Freedom =/= quality
Most open world games are dogshit and empty. SV is no different.

people want some sort of structure, but don't want to be railroaded

Great observation, Einstein

good morning saar

Fucking this

I’m going to say it. I like the improved EXP Share and going back to old games that don’t have it is difficult.

yawnie gets tired of getting BTFO'd and come over to Anon Babble

Is this actually true? I got tired of pokeyman games because of the linear stories, is this one actually less linear?

At least be honest: both are shit because the Pokémon world isn't that interesting to explore. It lacks that grandiose feel that other adventure games have, and let's not forget that games don't reward you for exploring its world.

post the hikers at the entrance of Black City / White Forest

I actually enjoyed the take on the gyms in any order style of scarlet and violet. The gyms should scale to you better though I remember doing the ghost one earlier and coming back to other shit and just destroying it. Pirated it not worth paying for it until they learn how to make a game that looks and runs better than a N64 game

go back to your containment board

we are on Anon Babble already

first few gens are better because you see new things, open world = repetitive beacons you follow

It is completely open-world.

I LOVE EXPLORING EMPTY FILLER OVERWORLDS WITH NOTHING OF VALUE TO OFFER THE PLAYER

Was Gamefreak ever a competent company?

Umm... Take a wild guess?

Why did she do it Anon Babble?

file.gif - 326x326, 3.69M

Does this game have any good dungeons? Can you fight the gyms in any order?

Yep, see gen 5.

infamous copper thief, she used the opportunity of you distracting the guard to make her move

No and no, the gym levels don't scale.

OPEN WORLD IS SO EMPTY AND POINTLESS

GIVE ME THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF A HALLWAY SIMULATOR

Ok now post the game's gameplay on the bottom.

open world pokemon game

gym leader teams don't change depending on how many badges you have

just why?

They needed another 1 billion dollars to be able to afford that kind of programming.

What happens when we get pokken tournament + legends arceus with a built-in nuzlocke difficulty and a sidequest where we can help the pokepolice raid a team rocket hideout?

pokebreach.png - 600x315, 216.8K

What did he mean by this?

file.png - 804x373, 106.95K

Why the fuck would you want that?
If you cant beat the gym leader in area B, go back to area A first.

all those four letter jumbles

the fuck is this?
also

her cock

Every time.

That sounds like...
a roadblock

because it avoids half the gym leaders from being complete pushovers because you visited them at the wrong time
it's like Gen 2 gym teams but even worse

"pls let me explore the world" is at the very bottom of the panel

"lmao nope" (aka the response) is above it, at the top

Have these people never read a comic in their lives? What the fuck is this formatting

Yes you can fight the gyms in any order, ignore the other retard afraid of challenge.

Because the way SV was, the wasn't gym leader A-H, it was gym leader 1-8. Technically, you could challenge Grusha first and Katy last, but by grinding your team up to fight against a leader with 4 pokemon over level 45, and then finishing against a leader with 3 level 15s, you're choosing to struggle uphill and taking the fun out of most of the battles to convince yourself its actually open-world. Having the first leader you fight have 3 level 15s, and then have each subsequent leader improve their by ~4-5 levels for each badge you've earned (and add in another Pokémon at some point) would actually make it reasonable to challenge the gym leaders in any order. Team Star and the Titan Pokémon having similar progressions also practically force you to go through them in the recommended order as well.

and you being able to make up your own path with no difficulty sounds like something you would bitch about in a zelda thread.

Okay, so either exclusively scale upwards or just deal with it. What is it about this that is different from grinding shit out before going to a gym boss?

basically the proper way to do a team thing in an open world game would have to start all different team activity locations at a base level, and depending which one you tackle first, the plans in the other locations advance, which in turn means the trainers use higher leveled pokemon and more admins are present

I want a homogeneous game where no direction I go in matters

because it's a fake open world, if you let people go everywhere, but then level gate everything, and even worse, don't upscale areas, you are basically telling the player "if you don't follow the order we want you to go to the towns in, you will have less fun"

Because nobody enjoys a gym leader battle that doesn't even provide the smallest bit of challenge because their pokemon are 30 levels below yours

sure there ARE open world games that provide good reasons as to why you can't go to certain areas early, but pokemon is not set up that way, there's no dangerous area ruled by evil dragons, they're towns

posts a video that shits on unova

you aight sagefag?

you're choosing to struggle uphill and taking the fun out of most of the battles to convince yourself its actually open-world.

Is this some kind of zoomer mental illness?

get picrel

ignore instructions and build how you want

start crying because it doesnt look the same

lego ship.png - 1261x1200, 2.44M

arbitrary levels in an open world game is literally the worst of both worlds
having different teams for gym leaders also makes the game more fun to replay

Because nobody enjoys a gym leader battle that doesn't even provide the smallest bit of challenge because their pokemon are 30 levels below yours

This. Instead they should make the games linear and make it impossible to EVER get challenge because you’re forced to fight NPCs that are always at your level or lower.

IMG_5558.jpg - 2703x2064, 2.05M

wtf why didn’t they make levels pointless?

except a varying open world scaling would be the lego equivalent
what pokemon actually does is more akin to a miniature set, where assembling the miniature in any way other than what the book says, is just going to look ugly or flat out break something

Playing any Pokémon games after the series peaked on the GBA

Why?

They're making these images for pokemon now

Congrats on, somehow, plummeting the quality of discussion even harder.

people tend to want consistent challenge throughout a game
you really think the people who intentionally challenge a lv 40 team with lv 20 people are going to be happy that the next gym leader now sends out lv 15 pokemon against their lv 30 people (leveled up from high xp)

the real way to do it is to have scaling levels but also let you challenge the gym leaders "true" team instead of their leveled team, which is a post-game scaled team

level scaling fags have brain damage.

people tend to want consistent challenge

Yes clearly it’s better for a game to have literally no challenge anywhere than some challenge at all because it lets me pretend shitty games like gen 5 are actually good.

pokemon is quite literally the best possible series for level scaling because guess what: gym leaders already do that
post-game gym leader teams have been a thing for ages now

But really, what's your solution then for avoiding players from accidentally robbing themselves off of a fun battle by not realizing the game wanted them to go to a particular gym leader first?

Never forget that the anons currently arguing that pokemon needs scaling 100% post in totk threads about how much they hate the scaling.

read the post again you complete retard, it mentions being able to challenge the gym leaders at full strength at any moment

also Gen 5 actually HAD a solution, it was called having a difficulty setting
You did play BW2 on challenge mode, set battle and without using items in-battle right? Because if you didn't, you have no right to complain about lack of challenge

Yes
There’s roadblocks in SV but you can get around them.

the solution is to have scaled levels but not have scaled levels

You can’t have both, retard.

it was called having a difficulty setting

You mean the one that made the game easier?

The formula of "you have to beat the game/main story before the game can be fully open world" is not exactly bad. It's only bad when there's no point to the world anymore.

yes you can, complete retard, I already mentioned how it would go
you either challenge the gym at the badge appropriate challenge they have prepared for you, or else you challenge them at their full strength, which is a choice you make each time you challenge them
best of both worlds

I've literally never heard anything about this in a zelda thread, not like there are any real zelda threads here and you would know if you actually tried visited one. Are you talking about how you can go anywhere like it's an open world game? You sound genuinely retarded bringing up zelda out of nowhere. I accept your concession

dude just make it a choice lmao!

ah yes always a sign of great game design when the developer is a fucking retard who can't balance their game and has to leave it up to the player

They were never competent but they used to care. 3DS ere was the point they started to caring and the Switch was when they genuinely stopped caring at all.

you are free to go everywhere

there's fuckall nothing of interest to be found on the map

you were literally saying the entire time that things not being balanced is fine, you were the entire time arguing for being able to skip gym leaders and having to challenge them at a point that there was zero challenge left and rejected every single method of achieving some form of balance

are you actually a diagnosed retard? Because your object permanence seems to be at the level of a 2 year old

you were literally saying the entire time that things not being balanced is fine,

SV already is balanced. “Balance” doesn’t mean “let’s homogenize the entire fucking game into having the same difficulty and make levels entirely pointless as a mechanic”

fighting a lv 15 gym leader with lv 40 pokemon is neither fun nor balanced
unless of course, you're one of those people who actively needs to grind to be 20 levels ahead of the curve just to win a pokemon game
which at this point, seems entirely likely

you can always slot in lvl 15 mons if you wanted to. this is a non argument.

game with the theme of exploration and collection should be linear because I’m a retarded NPC that needs to be told how to have fun

Gen 1 to 8
