As in, avoiding death isn't what makes us human - novel experiences, emotion, change, hopes and plans for the future, legacy and more are. I don't think any of us WANT to die, but even logically, and by going on what the game presented to you - in ETERNITY, everything becomes boring, everything loses its luster, its enjoyment. If there are zero stakes, if you never need to reproduce for a part of you to live on, if you never need to plant trees whose fruits you will never see, what else is left except base instincts? All pleasures will become banal and insufferable. The Narrator makes it clear that removing death means everyone will live in perpetuity just as they are, and ideally for so long that they start forgetting what they've already experienced. But all the glimpses we saw of that in the game itself point to a horrible fate.

Funnily enough that also makes it impossible for it to be a "cruel" fate, as cruelty requires intent - and as such agency - which a timeloop simply cannot possess

But it is a choice of agency, since they both agree to do it at the end, and for a loop to exist, they'd need to agree to do it every single time. So each reset would be a choice of agency.
