sudeki mixes action and rtwp, it's not turn-based.

It's really lame too because stunning the enemies in action mode which takes like 5 seconds then switching to turnbased makes the enemies so weak you can end almost any battle in one turn. There's no point to sticking to just one of the styles because you're just gimping yourself. At least that's how it worked in the previous Trails games that used this system.

It is very rushed near the end (the animator made a fan-ending animation to actually properly end the game). The second half only turns out to be the last 20% of the game because they had no time. The combat breaks down pretty bad once you can just spam magic abilities non-stop.

However, the environments are very comfy and I just love the 6th gen. If you want to play it you can get it cheap on steam, although I tihnk you have to cap the framerate to avoid the camera from hugging the ground (I played it on OGbox so I dont know, just what I heard)

Cold steel was basically the absolute peak of the series. I've been told that it's been down hill from there and that even bringing rean back and forcing the story back onto the plot it started in CS4 wasn't enough to bring the series back to where it was before.

Olivier and Schera are the only 2 valid ones. You literally said nothing to justify Estelle, Joshua and Renne's inclusion and Agate and Tita should have never been in CS3 as they also added absolutely fucking nothing to that game. Metaphor having action combat is a misconception. It serves only two purposes. One: it let you get rid of weak enemies below your level with one hit. Two: you could stun non-weak enemies for an advantage, similar to games with a simple field attack that initiates combat.

Not really. Daybreak did action portion if the combat devently since it allowed you to kill weaker enemies. Daybreak II made more monsters into hp sponges which made that portion of the gameplay tedious.

People prefer Cold Steel's turn based combat because its snappier and a lot more abusable with linking and brave points made sure you had lots of options. Daybreak had it right with bringing back orbment lines, but SCLMs dont feel particularly better than linking and being able to go back to back S Craft atleast in Daybreak I made aure thats the most efficient way to deal with 90% of the battles

Let's dilute efforts between two game mechanics, instead of focusing on making one type of gameplay the best it can be.

Another test you might want to do is question if those characters could be replaced with someone else and the answer is yes. They could. Outside of Olivier and by extension Schera none of the characters really did anything unique that actually made their inclusion anything but arbitrary. In 1 the best strat by far was building for delay, in 2 you had Laura one-shot-slam builds, in 3 it was stacking break damage. I will stand by that CS1 is the best first game in an arc. It has the best mix of comfy and serious stuff and does the best job of balancing having shit actually happen and set up for future events. FC fails by having too much of the important stuff happen at the very end without properly including it through the game and Zero fails by being too self contained and not doing as much to set things up. CS1 is the perfect balance.

Nothing happens in CS1 until the last hour it's actually way worse than FC in this regard.
The characters are also really bland and start off the closest to generic archetypes than any other cast in the series, at least they still get a little development though as opposed to CS2.

Something happens in literally every chapter of cold steel 1 and the ending is the consequences of everything that you experienced blowing up in the most magnificent way.

That isn't even close to being true. CS1 in every single arc reminds you of the growing tension in the country and the chapters always have something somewhat major happen that relates to the overarching plot with it gradually escalating to the point that the end doesn't feel like it comes out of nowhere but feels properly built up to. Compare that to Sky FC where the whole game basically feels like filler episodes until the game remembers to have a plot at the literal very ending. This is such a disingenuous post. You're just straight up making shit up. It's shit like this that makes me believe that narrative that most CS haters haven't even played it.

Cold Steel 1 and 2 were decent but 3 and 4 were legitimately the worst games in the franchise

I liked 4 and think it's by far the most over hated game in the series but yeah 3 is god awful. I've never been as blueballed as I have with CS3 and how it chooses to end every chapter. Though it has the most kino ending in the series I'll give it that.

FC has meaningful character moments and worldbuilding in every single chapter, I can't even remember what concretely happened for like half of CS1. Don't get me wrong I'm not a plotfag, I like slow paced stuff or I wouldn't love this series and I still enjoyed CS1 in that manner but the plot is legitimately nothing until the very end, the biggest thing that happens is "defeating" C but even that's just a fake-out.
Also keep in mind that it's almost double the length of FC with way more central characters and accomplishes far less.

If you want the full effect you start from Sky FC but you CAN start with the first game in a new arc, which would be Sky FC, Zero, Cold Steel 1, or Daybreak. You'll get the immediate plot fine but you'll be missing out on the larger narrative if you go this route and characters from other games will show up and you'll have no idea who they are. Only do this if you can tolerate a large amount of anime by the way, these games are basically a battle manga and harem in RPG form. If you can think of an anime trope, it's probably in this franchise

Don't take my word for it, but it looks like field attacks with extra steps

Freeroam autoattacks from allies during realtime that you can decide to "go into" the turn based mode.
Basically limited arpg mode then turn based with 3d positioning & skills.

you initiate combat like an action game, once you hit them enough you stun them, at that point if you switch to turn-based you do a powerful attack and if they're still alive you continue the fight turn-based as normal. you can enter turn-based whenever but you don't get the special attack if the enemy isn't stunned. it's the same system already used in daybreak (which is just a further iteration of what zero and cold steel already did) and it's pretty good even if the action part isn't terribly elaborate, but these segments are always short anyway since it's pretty easy to stun enemies so it's not too bad.
