In terms of "player not giving a fuck" doom eternal is much more palatable than the first game. It ramps up very quickly (starting with a shotgun and mod, multiple big demon types show up in the first level, already have movement upgrades) and all cutscenes are instantly skippable unlike the shitty half-life esque waiting rooms from the first.
I dont agree mainly because its tone lost the horror all together. Doom at its core is a horror game, Eternal added goofy cartoon shit to it and made it silly. Not to mention there are clear examples where the artstyle was better in 2016.
Third person cutscenes were lame. Constant door opening cutscenes were lame. Everything being flashy and colorful is an overkill way to tell the player information.
2016 just had a more grounded tone to it, Its all about execution and taste.

I played Doom Eternal on a 960 2GB card with everything on low at 2048x1152 upscaled to 1440p and dynamic resolution scaling on on top of that. Looked like a blurry piece of shit but it did let me run it at 60fps

Because it makes it more immersive and makes it feel like you are there in that world shooting the gun that you are holding. It doesn't need reload animations, it doesn't need many of the touches that you are not complaining about but would expect to see. It adds immersiveness, it adds soul, Its there literally because it looks cool. The more of that shit the better, someone should make a shooter using the Teardown engine for example
