I think that depends entirely on the fangame in question. For something like UTY I don't think it matters much at all since UTY is almost entirely self contained, finished, and what little it does draw from the source material is taken from Undertale, which is also already finished. For something like Deltarune Yellow it matters quite a lot. Both because its still in active development, and thus will have to coexist and share space in the public conscious with the new chapters, and because its narrative is directly dependent on Deltarune's. Depending on what happens in the game, the developer could be forced to make massive changes to the plot and lore. For my own fangame, its important, but I don't think it will actually change much in the development. Deltarune was massive inspiration for the thematic parts of my fangame. So any future changes to Deltarune's could color the perception of my game's, both for the audience and for myself. I don't think I'll have to worry about accidentally retreading Deltarune's narrative by the time its finished though, because I think mine still has enough going on to stand on its own both narratively and thematically. Its saying things Deltarune simply can't say by the very nature of its creation.

I actually liked Ceroba as character, they really captured the whole fox feeling with her, even her hijacking the plot fit well into it, it's just the big reveal completely ruined her. She's kinda like Vriska in Homestuck - she was fun and entertaining at first not just despite, but because of her flaws, but then she was revealed to be completely retarded and yet the narrative was trying to force us to love her and empathize with her despite her mental deficiencies and her horrible deeds.

The implication was she had to learn to let go but it was handled incredibly poorly since Clover ended up in the jar anyway. There was no reason not to try to use him to help Kanako before he got handed off.

I'd say they were playing to their strength instead of forcing themselves to follow Toby Fox' design philosophy. Better to make furries that are too cute than to fail at making ugly but likeable characters. Anyway, Undertale had plenty of conventionally cute anthros, and Deltarune even more so - despite all the jokes about female Barney, Susie is much cuter than Alphys or Undyne (and even Undyne got herself a makeover).

- Despite all her crimes, and all the terrible things she did, she gets away scott free, oh is completely fine letting that same innocent kid commit suicide without even trying to stop them.

I'd argue Ceroba's biggest problem was just that she injected Kanako with the serum against Chujin's wishes (and common sense), but letting Clover give up their soul wasn't really that bad given the context of the situation.
Everyone likes to act as though they could've just raised Clover in the underground, but let's be real, they'd probably have to live in hiding away from the royal guard, constantly in fear that they could get found out and brought to Asgore's attention, and that's not a great way to raise a kid, or even a good way to live in general. Giving up their soul was effectively just cutting to the chase and getting it over with, since it was basically inevitable anyway.

Maybe make the silhouette of the face a bit more angular? I have no idea how you could do that while trying to work with the limitations of a talk sprite, but that's about the only thing I can think of at this point.
I think the real problem is that there's no way to make it look truly androgynous without just starting from scratch, and even then, adding any kind of detail to their face usually still results in it skewing to one side or the other. The only reason Clover, Frisk, Kris, Chara, etc, all look androgynous is because their faces just aren't that detailed, usually just consisting of a few lines, or less, in Kris' case.

I was thinking of basically making him Chujin Jr, only without the ego and subsequent hubris. So he's still a complete nerd, only he's very mild mannered and timid instead of being willful and opinionated, likely caused by his parents' high expectations as a child. Despite his personality he's actual extremely strong (Roba's tard strength + Chujin's boss monster power), but he has no idea he is. So his main gag is that he's a complete nerd who doesn't know his own strength and kind of a wimp. So he'd think nothing of lifting up a car because one of his books fell under it, but a kid half his size could bully him out of his lunch money.

The problem with that is that it doesn't play off of his existing character. You aren't actually doing anything with what the donut steel author wrote, you're just taking a name and a design and writing a new character around it.

Hmm. Perhaps a different response to responsibility would set him apart. Kyuubi doesn't have the whole teleportation thing that Sans does, so he has a more typical (negative) reaction. Instead of noping out or giving up, he panics or lashes out until he gets left alone, even if that makes things worse in the long run. That would set up a lot of tension when Chujin dies and Kanako becomes Spoonako, since all his instincts would tell him to avoid that situation like the plague. Definitely some character arc material there.

For me, I'd make it so that he knows he's pretty strong, but he crumbles under pressure, especially when faced with others' expectations. -Also, point above becomes an inconsistency in geno. Now she's trying to escort the child to safety, and she doesn't realize that Clover is a human like she did in the pacifist route.
-Crashes her raft, letting a child plunge to their death and... Flies away? She doesn't even bother flying down to look for Clover, and somehow ends up on the other side of the Dunes when they reunite.
-On another note, I want to complain about Martlet's role in the Dunes. If you actually go back and look through what she did in this section, you'll realize it was mostly pointless to put her there in the first place. She's mostly around to serve as flavor text, then leaves you anyway.
-Somehow she not only knows about the secret lab, she also knows about the DT injections. Also, she could've encountered the amalgamates, meaning she never would've reported this to the guards.
-The most glaring issue of hers is how she acts during the pacifist ending. She never objects once to Clover killing himself, despite trying to get Clover to live with her in almost every other ending. Felt like a total 180 from what her character was building up towards.

Probably the biggest individual plot jar in the game, yeah, even if Ceroba's multiple plot holes and unaddressed threads add up to be worse than Martlet's. Should have been either Chujin handing Martlet a vaxx, sending her one on his death bed, or even Ceroba passing it to her when she's freed in the Wild East and saying it was Chujin's work (though you'd have to tweak the plot a bit so she gets it in geno as well, maybe have her mention warning the Wild East in her Dunes encounter so the player knows she could have spoken with Ceroba?)

Reminder that when a monster absorbs a human's SOUL both of them have control over the body. Chujin would have had a very bad time, possibly a worse one than what actually happened to him, if he tried and succeed to absorb Integrity wholesale

It was incredibly advanced stuff, but his parents had been very proactive with his schooling, and he had learned a few of the basic concepts from Chujin himself.

From there it wasn't long until he had a working understanding of the research, which he relayed to Kanako in simple terms

The main problem was doing all of this without being caught by Ceroba

As much he wanted to make her proud by showing her he could be just like dad, he knew Ceroba would only understand it after he had shown her the results

Besides, it was all just books, knowledge never hurt anyone. That's what dad always said.

Is Martlet a danger to children? Sure. But there's no malice in it

Eventually they had it, the final part of dad's research. The soul serum. With it, a normal monster could obtain the power of a boss monster.

To produce it, two components were required: an unrefined serum, made from raw soul extract; and a live boss monster host, into whom the unrefined serum would be injected, and from whom the pure serum could be extracted.

The lab had just enough extract to make two doses of raw serum, one for each of them

All they had to do was take the plunge, inject the syringe, and they'd accomplish everything dad had given his life trying to achieve

"Kanako, I'm scared."

"Stop being such a baby Kuwy. We've come this far, read all the books, done all the work, now its just time to finish the research. Then we'll finally be able to make dad proud."

"But that was different. That was just reading, learning. There's no harm in knowledge. This is real testing, on ourselves. We could get hurt... I-I thing we should stop, Kanako."

"After all this? Come on, don't you want to be a hero? To save everyone? To make dad's dreams come true?"

The shouting, the crying, the wait in the lobby

The painful failed explanation which Ceroba understood all too well anyways

And worst of all he remembers the look on her face

Not fury, not horror, just a sad look of acceptance

Even now, not a day goes by that it doesn't haunt him

It fits with the other lore about monsters taking human souls basically requiring the monster to mind rape the soul into submission. Meanwhile we see that Clover gives up relatively easily and even if he didn't give up, would he really mind rape this little girl (who's done absolutely nothing wrong) to death out of spite?

Saltpeter has historically been used as a preservative, and black powder is about 75% saltpeter, with the other ingredients being charcoal (edible) and sulfur (safe in low doses), so in theory you could eat black powder. Some nitro based powders can act a stimulant. So if Clover is getting any kind of benefit from eating gunpowder, its probably smokeless powder.

I appreciate the fact that it's actually somewhat feasible for Clover to actually just be eating straight gunpowder for parts of their journey, just because I like the idea of the other characters becoming extremely worried for them when they find out what they've been eating, and continuing to eat.

Better yet, the overwhelming majority of times the gunpowder's used is during either Pacifist Ceroba or Zenith Martlet fights, so I'd like to imagine that Clover is forcing a bagful of dry heh, coarse powder down his throat, wheezing, coughing, and fruitlessly looking around for water, while his opponent watches in a mixture of confusion and concern, with the music playing since in UTY it's diegetic.
