Which city was the best?
Which city was the best?
I like Liberty City a lot more than Los Santos, but Vice City's looking like it will be cool
Liberty city but not that one.
Stilwater
III's Liberty City kind of sucks and besides, it's absolutely soulless without the weird green blurry look that the PS2 version had
San Andreas, because it had Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas all in one game.
but GTAV had a bigger map
Don't care. The variety San Andreas offered made it feel bigger than it actually was.
Can't say it was the best but I prefer Liberty City because of all the random buildings you can enter lets you feel like theres alot more to the playable space than there is on 1st glance
This anon gets it.
being this wrong
Liberty City has the most value because it's actually the only proper NYC recreation I can think of in a game. Los Angeles already has a geographically accurate recreation in the form of True Crime LA, there's also Midnight Club LA. Probably like 40 other games I can't think of too. NYC recreations in vidya have always lacked because it's made by retards who's knowledge of NYC comes from Disney films, they always just only recreate Manhattan and they never even properly represent that because every NPC will be White and friendly and there's no trash littered everywhere. GTA 4 is great as it recreates 3 other boroughs of the city and it properly represents how grim the actual NYC demographics are, and it also represents all the garbage and grime NYC has in real life as a result of the grim demographics being incapable of cleanliness and common courtesy to not trash where they live.
IV’s Liberty City had the most detail and feel of a living city. The only thing missing was a ferry to the statue of Hillary.
GTA 4 Liberty City makes me so fucking nostalgic. It's set in NYC and lacks all the Indians on electric mopeds and electric bikes delivering food on UberEats and washing dishes like what real NYC is 45% of nowadays because those hardly existed yet. Come to think of it I can't think of a single Indian NPC. Indians didn't exist outside of convenience stores only 17 years ago :(
it's actually the only proper NYC recreation I can think of in a game
Play Spiderman 2 (2004 not the nigger game)
Night City but then again it's not Rockslop.
Night City definitely looks better in screenshots, but its NPC and police AI is dogshit even after patch 2.0, so it fails as a believable city in the way that GTA IV and V strive for. Seeing CDPR's job postings for Cyberpunk 2 talking about wanting to create the best NPC crowd AI in the industry etc. has me hopeful that they're actually going to focus on that living breathing aspect for the sequel's city
did you even read the rest of his post
Los Angeles is the perfect city for a GTA setting. extremely wealthy, heaps of crime, strong car culture, epicentre of pop culture, interesting geography; it is a microcosm of everything good and bad about America, practically already a parody of the country writ large.
+1
Lived in NYC all my life, GTA IV is the most accurate representation, save for the scaled down feeling of the Bronx, but, then again, who the fuck wants to see the Bronx in a video game?
OP you took the liberty to make amazing collage?
thank you anon. this is exactly my opinion. the city looks great but its soul is broken and sad. the driving mechanics are the worst i've ever seen. they behave like carts from sim city
I have no idea how people take this game seriously
GTA 4's Bronx is like stepping into a time machine set to 1978. half the borough looks like Berlin after the war, with bombed out buildings and rubble strewn everywhere.
Hey, I'm not complaining - most areas of the Bronx do pretty much look like that today. The last semi-decent places left are limited to basically Pelham Bay, Country Club and parts of Throgs Neck. Besides that, it's a shithole. From Easchester/Bay Plaza all the way down to Hunt's Point is just a wasteland of Section 8 and illegal immigrants.
we need games to cost $200 or more. i want all these games with great graphics, mini-games and all the shit making it soully and kino comfy as fuck
i want soul saints row 1 rag dolls with massive production efforts
who's knowledge of NYC comes from Disney films, they always just only recreate Manhattan and they never even properly represent that because every NPC will be White
sadly, NYC changed a lot according to Joker 2019 producers. they barely could find these old fucked up neighborhoods and had to scout in New Jersey I think
Which city was the best?
Vice.
sadly, NYC changed a lot according to Joker 2019 producers. they barely could find these old fucked up neighborhoods and had to scout in New Jersey I think
Yeah because they only looked in Manhattan. That's a load of fucking horseshit - any old street in Harlem or in the South Bronx will absolutely look like a complete shithole.
I wish they did include the 2 nice areas of the Bronx in GTA 4. I lived in Pelham Bay as a kid and it would have been nostalgic if I could run around it in a game. I think they actually did try to recreate Pelham Bay in the form of "Little Bay" but they only recreated like 2 houses and a Burger King it was barely anything. My aunt also lived in a gated White (as far as I can tell) community in the Bronx called Silver Beach.
how could there ever have been so much soul
vice > los santos > liberty
My aunt also lived in a gated White (as far as I can tell) community in the Bronx called Silver Beach.
Dude, I live probably... 30 minutes from Silver Beach? I still live in the BX today. It's unfortunately still got that reputation of being a gated community but the vast majority of it's inhabitants are single Puerto Rican mothers who fucked their white husbands through divorce and now raise their crotch goblins and send them through life absolutely free. Country Club has the reputation that Silver Beach does nowadays, I'm about halfway between Throgs Neck and Country Club, kind of central.
I do appreciate that GTA 4 basically just upscaled the South Bronx (Parkchester, Hunt's Point, etc.) rather than trying to include the rest of it. By 2008, the Bronx was still the absolute symbol of urban decay and even today it still is, so making it the quintessential black people mission area was fine with me. The fact they aped the Sopranos so hard that they made the Mafia missions set in NJ (Alderney) was pretty lame, considering the Bronx literally has Belmont & 187th (the famous Little Italy that A Bronx Tale was filmed in), and not the commercialized Manhattan Little Italy. Knowing Rockstar, it was probably intentional for the social messaging of the game.
sure but it ain't this bad anymore.
Vice CIty, best GTA to date
still looks fantastic 16 years later
san fierro
I never liked Los Santos in GTAV. It never made an impression despite doing like 4 full playthroughs of the game, I can't really in my mind recall what roads lead to what place, it's all kind of a soup.
Meanwhile 10+ years since touching IV and I can recall what roads I would take to get to specific locations on the map, its all still burnt into memory. And it's not an age thing either because I have like a photographic memory of the RDR2 map and how to navigate it. GTAV's Los Santos just kind of sucks.
Vice city, even in 3D universe it had the best vibe
Los Santos is way too compressed. Areas that are several square miles in reality are only like a single city block in-game. it makes the town look like a theme park.
Rockstar fake new names for their states and referencing actual states in their games confuses the shit out of me.
the lore used to be that the real cities and states coexisted with the GTA equivalents. like, New York existed alongside Liberty City. at least, that's something the Housers said in an interview during the runup for GTA 3 or VC release (can't remember). who knows if they still hold onto that.
this is the same for literally every video game city. there are entire "neighborhoods" in GTA 4 that are a single street with a couple brownstones
Why is it always the same 3 cities? Could it work anywhere else?
Ignoring the maps/games themselves, the vibes of Vice City will be unbeatable. Then its Liberty City, then Los Santos. Then Las Venturas, then San Fierro.
I JUST DIED IN YOUR ARMS TONIGH
IT MUST'VE BEEN SOME KIND OF KISS
I SHOULD'VE WALKED AWAY
no that's simply because if they use a GTA esque fake name but it's not actually represented to see what it's supposed to be you won't know what the characters are talking about. if GTA characters are talking about Atlanta and call it "Magnolia" or whatever you won't know wtf they mean.
Those were the 3 cities in the first GTA game.
Yes and I'm asking why is it always the same 3?
it makes me wonder, if they should break the pattern with GTA 7 and bring Anywhere City back.
if they choose it to be an actual parody of a real city, what city would it be?
the difference is NYC looks pretty samey already, and it isn't that big in real life. if you superimpose the GTA 4 map over NYC in reality, it's about half the size of Manhattan. if you superimpose 5's LS onto LA it's about the size of Santa Monica
anywhere city should be rockstar take on crime in city in the far future.
Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, Honolulu, maybe DFW are all viable alternatives. outside of the US you have London, Hong Kong, Cape Town, and maybe Paris/Rio/Moscow if you can ignore the language barrier.
Was vice city originally Atlanta?
I wish those English limey crooked toothed faggots would make crime games set in their United kingdoms.
Las Venturas
Driver Parallel Lines New York is pretty similar to GTA IV. GTA 3 Liberty City is a joke since it's just mashed elements of various cities.
half the size of manhattan
lol no, GTA 4's map is probably like 2 miles long in real world scale, the real world scale of the GTA 5 map is about 6 miles north to south and GTA 4 is around the same size as Los Santos
San Andreas>IV LC>Vice City>III LC> V Los Santos
because the dev cycle for these games is insane, so doing the two biggest cities plus the hoshposh of Flordia is better than say doing Chicago, or Seattle, or some weird version of Texas.
Hm odd. Vice City was originally Atlanta. Why did they swap it to faggot ass Florida? Georgia is a MUCH more interesting state.
Anywhere City is a shit name. Unless they want to imply every building is enterable
no, it was Miami still.
Pretty sure some of the street vendors are
It’s actually crazy how Rockstar thought shipping out GTA V’s map despite it having NO FUCKING CONTENT for 2/3rds of it was a good idea.
Why not Carcer City? (Although it's pretty dark)
Also it's where GTA V Michael formerly lived in.
It's insane how gentrified GTA became. The old aesthetic was just a darker, polluted, trashy version of cities. Kind of like a dark futurism. But now it's just a simulation of the cities. The exaggeration and style is gone. VI will have a tik-tok simulator and it revolves heavily around normie wealth aspiration culture.
dark future became present
Between the leaks, 2 trailers and all the new screenshots, the mappers are growing concerned about there still being 0 evidence of a northern coastline
Many are theorizing a future-expandable land-locked northern boarder like in RDR2, that might have hurricanes form when you try to cross it by boat or plane........
the map might start out with weather damaged highway/train tunnels at the northern border that get 'fixed' later.....
Would that be too jewishly immersion breaking? Or worth it for a Gloriana expansion inspired by Georgia, Alabama, and the Carolinas?
They should branch out more and not just following the template of old. Are there only 3 notable cities in America?
Why not Carcer City?
They clean up all the corpses yet?
The mappers were always off on GTA5 until the marketing ramped up and they showed ALOT more stuff. Specifically those 3 Michael/Franklin/Trevor trailers is when I saw the map speculation pan out a bit better. I don't think will be remotely close till the start of next year when they ramp up marketing.
gloriana is a retarded ass fucking name that sounds like something a 10 year old would come up with. the houser brothers would have something more creative and better sounding than that. clearly it's the newfag women directors
Vice City
youtu.be
every building is enterable
maybe if we reach a point where those things were generated by ai
the actual in-game map is still Miami, with direct references to South Beach and Little Havana. Atlanta is about a hundred miles from the ocean.
Vice City, why do you think GTA6 is going back there?
VGH RETVRN to based and trad NYC where 50% of the population is black/Puerto Rican
It's sad they had to butcher that franchise. Saints Row used to be the slightly less serious GTA. Then SR3 happened and it started to go too far into the wacky/zany direction.
SR3 Steelport is already a downgrade and SR4 had to put an ugly filter over it.
yes retard because now the population is 50 percent black and Puerto Rican, 20 percent indian and then another 20 percent varios other shades of poop brown and 10 percent white. back then it was 30 percent white.
rather than wanting to make the city 100% white, he wants to return to an era where he was still an object minority
the only retard here is you. literal "2040 conservative" mindset on display
you don't immediately return the city to 100 percent white low IQ boy. it will take some time for the pogroms and deportations to do that, first it will return to 30 percent white, then gradually increase back to 100. dumb fuck. if I'm driving off a cliff I would like to return to 20 feet back. doesn't mean I just want to stay 20 feet from a cliff, but I have to be 20 feet first to eventually reach 5 miles from the cliff.
I think Gloriana is a clever enough name that merges multiple state names into one
It's Leonida is something I think they could have done better with....I don't like that state name for a Florida parody at all.....
I would've called the state Flamingo. Leonida is a reference to Ponce de Leon, in Spanish it means 'Leon's land'
you do realise one of the two Houser brothers is still at Rockstar?
They show the shape of the state in the trailer. It's on a mural on the side of a building.
I still had fun with SR3 despite it, but SR4 drained all my motivation, and then seeing Gat Outta Hell, I saw the reboot disaster coming a long way.
IM BACK
BACK IN THE NEW YORK
GROOVE
I see. Kinda weird they're using irl historical explorers to name GTA states, but makes more sense than just coming up with a bad name....
