Potential evidence AGAINST Kris Knight:

Berdley and Noelle's books were open and arranged on the table, suggesting they were already present when the Fountain was opened, and it's unlikely they'd have opened the door and jumped into the darkness unless it happened to them like Kris and Susie. Queen also states the Fountain was opened "today." Main issue is that this means the Fountain would have been opened while they were there, which is dubious (unless they put to sleep? But that's a massive leap).

It being opened at night is also weird, as Kris can barely move much without the Soul. Him dragging himself across town, breaking in, opening it, and not being noticed is a stretch. The narrative of Card Kingdom also implies the Knight locked away the other Kings.

Neither King nor Queen recognize Kris as the Knight, although Queen does say she didn't really get that good of a glance.

The Knight is referred to as the Roaring Knight. As in, that their agenda is to cause the Roaring. Kris closes the Fountains without our input, however. Moreover, why would Kris install King as the ruler of the Card Kingdom?

It's somewhat unlikely that a major mystery would have a reveal at what's basically the start of the game still (end of Chapter 2), so it's not unreasonable to assume a red herring.

Kris is only shown opening a Fountain after learning how to do so from Queen, though this might just be a coincidence.

Ralsei, who can sense Fountains, doesn't sense the Cyber World Fountain until after school ends. Either it wasn't open or he's in on it.

Kris is shown being afraid of the Grand Fountain, as if he was scared of it and didn't know what it was.

Evidence FOR:

Kris wears knightly attire, has associations with hands in the lore, wields a blade, and the idea of the player character being a potential antagonist is a reasonable enough trope to use for the story.

Addition: Getting a game over states the world was covered in darkness, as if the "Roaring Knight" wins and starts the Roaring, so take that as you will.
As for other theories:

Dess: Pretty solid, however, we have seen her calling out in the code and in Spamton's dialogue. She's unlikely to be calling out for help if she's currently active as the Knight unless her cries were old.

Alvin: Also pretty interesting, though so far he likely feels too minor.

Goner Vessel: Also pretty compelling as they have the benefits of Kris without being Kris. Pretty good even if the Oblivion theory is shit.

Papyrus: Would be interesting given it seems Papyrus was underutilized in Undertale compared to Sans and his currently place in the Deltarune story is a complete mystery.

Guys, you don't get it. There is scene transition between Kris closing the fountain and them getting back to the lab. Kris and Susie just strangled Noelle and Berdly a little to make them pass out, and arranged things like if they fell asleep during studying.

You could remove them entirely from the game qnd nothing would change. Which os bad for how much screentime and even a song they got.
They are filler but very mid filler that overstays its welcome.

If you think Ralsei not sensing the dark fountain before you leave the closet after school means that it wasn't open yet it would mean that the fountain would have to have been opened between you leaving the closet and walking to the library.
However we know that the fountain was created before that because the huge traffic jam in town started by the annoying dog who then drove into the dark world. The timings don't match up unless the fountain was created sometime earlier.

Really REALLY hope I don't have to wait until the very last second to get Chapters 3 and 4 on my Switch. The only version on the Eshop currently is the Switch 2 version, and I would prefer to be able to preload it in some fashion before Switch 2 launch day hits and the servers go down for a week.

I'm leaving slot 1 completely empty to continue my nosave "Kris" run, slot 2 is pure pacifist.
Slot 3 is the super canon hug route.
I'd imagine that if you're a real jerk you could have a snowgrave, nosave and pacifist/bully save going.

Honestly you only need multiple saves of chapter 2. Its not like there's any permanent routes in chapter 1 yet.

Sort of. There's likely some unexplored flag that saves if you took down the King by having all his subjects insurrect, but otherwise the difference is just Jevil's equipment.

Rather than setting a specific flag, it might just check to see what you did in regards to enemies in chapter 1 and use that to decide in chapter 2.

However, the dialogue that is supposed to appear if you didn't give the present to Ralsei has also been made deliberately unreachable - the developers' intent likely was to simply make the dialogue unreachable. Save files made with older versions that are past the boat ride are not affected by this fix.
