one of the worst roguelikes

one of the best roguelikes

it'd an alright roguelike

its solid

I sunk 100 hours into it which is a good chunk of time. The rare shit in it feels RARE which is good, but iirc the lack of synergies was kind of a buzzkill at times.

Great presentation and content, sadly too much restrictive or no fun allowed mechanics even for an Isaac enjoyer.

roll slop that shits on the memory of its inspiration and better game; Nuclear Throne.

I stopped playing it solely because I didn't like the dodge. Just didn't feel good.

roguelite with heavy focus on guns

cap dps on bosses

can i ask why? Isnt the main appeals of roguelites is that you get to be overpowered if you get lucky? It also shits on the gun variety since u can have a hundred guns, it wont matter if they do most of them do the exact same damage output on bosses, the relative scarcity of ammo doesnt help.

Entertaining, but there were some mechanics that were extremely idiotic and unfun. For one thing, they should ditch needing ammo for most weapons next time around, since it encourages you not to experiment.

Meme game, play a better one.

synthetik.jpg - 1920x1080, 495.96K

Game that would've benefitted greatly from having workshop support.

The game is good when you don't get stuck with shit guns but unfortunately most of the guns are shit. I didn't really understand the purpose of the luck system either, usually you put systems in to mitigate bad luck but Gungeon's mostly worked the opposite way by making you less likely to find good items for every one you found.

not a roguelike

Honestly, I didn't really had problem with ammo past the first couple of floors. The bigger problem is that you always end up with shitton of useless guns that clog up your inventory. Also Rat is the worst mechanic ever invented and whoever thought it was a good idea should be subjected to rat torture.

Gets samey and boring real fast. There's not enough variety and not enough options to get varied runs.

i once got lucky with an overpowered build that allowed me to get to the end despite my severe lack in skill. it was all stuff that blocked enemy shots however, not high damage (because there's basically nothing that buffs damage)

Shitty Nuclear Throne wannabe

It amazes me that playing this on switch is a completely different experience to playing it on PC with mouse and keyboard yet tendies will say the switch version is just as good as the PC one. Tendie cultists really are mindless apes

I really like the game but I HATE that unlocking weapons makes the game more and more random.
I don't want to unlock items I never want to use.

unistall without even playing it

Enter the gungeon is great, certified classic, only people saying otherwise are one hard skill filtered by it because its so challenging to properly play. The kind who just do a hundred runs until they get a lucky RNG god run and still fuck it up.
Exit the gungeon is terrible, and doesnt understand anything that made the first good - though maybe they fixed it up since.

EtG 2 looks like it could be good.

the lack of synergies was kind of a buzzkill at times.

That was my complaint but they fixed that in the OP picrel update. Even the letter r gun is top tier with several of the synergies

so that you have to win via skill.
Not getting hit on a boss gives you +1 HP, and that bonus can be spent to unlock shortcuts and such too. Doing no hit on many of the bosses is really hard, and therefore makes the unlocks rewarding. This is defeated if you can just one shot the boss with a cheese run.

It's fun and it actually encourages you to get better at the game. The patches added a lot of good content and polish to the game. I'm not sure what they're thinking with EtG2 being 3d, the sprites in EtG were nice and it was easy to judge bullet positions in 2D. I guess it's some kind of tradition for indie games to ditch their classic style and become generic for their sequel.

What games could scratch that etg itch?

kek, nice try.
Played it, its decent for 5-10 hours then its garbage. to play it you have to sign in, with discord and socials thrown in your face. Only one build is good.

If you play good the game gives you more keys therefore better builds
Stop getting hit dumbass
There’s a chance to get rewards the better you clear a room

Hopefully EtG 2, we'll see.
Other than that, im not sure. Some similar games like voidigo exist. That game can get pretty challenging at higher difficulties, but its too different to say liking EtG means liking it. Voidigo is also inspited by nuclear throne though

It was fun

Stop getting hit dumbass

I said that to a toober who kept blaming the game for "spawning bullets" on him, and getting "stuck on walls" aka, blaming the game and got permabanned. He did the same to dead cells, just lied about it to cope with skill issues.
fuck you, fliksgamingstuff, im glad your channel flopped.

anyway, who plays with KB+M? better aim control at the expense of less movement control. Personally I think the game is designed around 8 directional movement well enough and did everything on KB+M, aiming is much much more important at sniping high value enemies, plus it takes more skill to dodge and aim over dodge and auto aim cheat. Controller players should be locked from unlocking things for flawlessing bosses.

unironically EtG 2 may work well on switch 2 with mouse aim and gamepad movement.

I think I do bettwr with the Xbawks controller
Easier for me to dodge and blank even THOUGH my aim is worse it makes up for it because your hands are more spread out on KB+M
I hope there’s an enter the gungeon 2 because it’s a really good game, just got my lead god challenge and I am a fucking god
Now trying to beat the lich and didn’t realize he was THREE fucking phases

there is a 2, it was shown in the switch 2 reveal
basically looks like 1 but in 3D
We dont know much about it, if its the same original dev team or how it plays but, it does look like the first game at least, only 3D models.

Maybe I haven't gotten far enough but every run played the same and then every encounter in those runs played the same.

I'm a solo dev designing a roguelike twin stick shooter themed around witches.
What would you like to see in a game matching that description?

Paid 1.50 bucks for it, reached the dragon after 4h, beat him then uninstalled it and realised that fps roguelites are better because for the most part, they aren't filled with memeweapons/trash that can ruin your run.

its liquid

Gungeon is great. Eventually every run ends up too similar though. Especially if you do the Rat. Your runs just end up using the cheese gun every time.

If you use the cheat character that gets every synergy things are more interesting, but it's impossible to lose.

It's cool, I didn't like exit as much

I played it early on when getting ammo for the unlocked guns was rarer than a condom machine in the vatican and got tired of plinking away with my pistol.
I hear they improved this issue later on.

The 1st Floor is the worst simply because of how many Keys you need and the Game refuses to give you any unless you get lucky and Drill is in the Store.

boring as fuck zoomer game

noita / magicraft spell building.
like, isaac worked so well due to synergies, EtG worked a lot better when they added more synergies. Think, beam weapon + homing + split clusters giving you a big room clearing laser instead of just doing nothing.

if its witch themed, it needs that noita experimentation IMO, custom spell combos changing your magic missile into something crazy. or lame, or self destructive.
also potions or alchemy make sense, like a make your own potion thing, make a big heal, or instead a damage potion, or a buff etc, risk and reward built into the whole heal system.

lastly, witch lolis and mommies.

Well they better be fuckimg CUTE, for one

Exactly 1 slutty witch.
Exactly 1 witch (male).
Potion crafting minigame of some description.

Various aminal familiars that drastically modify gameplay

I liked it fine enough. I put a lot of hours into it just to kill time while waiting for people to finish other games. Runs became quick enough once you start to unlock things.

Lots of different witches with various themed colorful outfits and naturally all the witches have huge hats

It sucked until the synergy update

it's shit
90% of the weapons are garbage
"synergies" are forced and shit

why did they decide to make Enter the Gungeon 2 a weird 3d? Gungeon 1 was peak

this roguelite made me retroactively hate most other roguelites
I LOVE A GAME ABOUT GUNS NOT LETTING YOU SHOOT GUNS
I LOVE A GAME ABOUT COLLECTING LOOT LOWERING YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING BETTER LOOT AFTER FINDING SOMETHING RARE

It was fun for about an hour then became a huge slog and I stopped playing it.

First 2 levels are a slog on each run, I got used to playing on rainbow mode because of this

I'm a solo dev designing a roguelike twin stick shooter

hahahaha

Its alright. Way too easy, legitimately the only thing that could possibly kill you are

fresh file rat luck stealing making it so youre first couple of runs have no guns, can potentially creat an unwinable scenario with the wall boss (yes this happened to me years ago and yes im still pissed)

going to the rat with mediocre gear

doing a high speed high curse run for teh lols

Aside from that nothing in this game can ever realistically kill you.

90% bad guns
90% bad buffs
Little to no synergies

but it can be beated even with bad guns

And you can paint a whole room with a toothbrush but Id rather play Isaac instead

that thing where the rat steals shit is the most unfun shit ever. i got to the final floor since i got a bunch of junk in a row and then the final junk upgrade was worse than the second last so i got screwed. a lot of unlockables being take no damage is not fun

no hit on many of the bosses is really hard

Skill issue. Its only hard for the fucking snake boss and the surpise door mimic

Crab in japanese

it's pretty fun, but I never could manage to unlock the gunslinger

Pretty fun, fun guns and powers and tons of synergies. All the people complaining about the game not being fun or unfair should just get good. 100% the whole game, unlocking the gunslinger and getting all the rat upgrades in the secret rat level.

Changing the description to roguelite, for one.

I have nostalgia for it
It was free on playstation during covid lockdown. Comfy as hell

it's a fantastic game, but the first floor of any run is a huge negative. the key economy is a bit too fucked.

Got to the dragon once, lost when he was at 10% HP. Proceeded to uninstall the game.
I don't even know what a final boss looks like besides that because alt-paths were the most fun gimmick I found in that game. Base is fucking annoyingly boring.
Also, the roll sucks fucking dick. Should've been a dash.

anon he asked about Enter the gungeon, not Hades.

I played around and managed to bypass the boss dps caps and the fights soft-locked and required a restart. This is the actual reason for the dps caps. The bosses are incompetently scripted and if the boss dies during a script the game breaks.

Its funny how so many people don't like it because it actually requires skill and you can't just win by rolling the dice

Any Guns you want in Enter the Gungeon 2?

Yeah, but the complaints that some Guns and Items just suck are valid. Especially since you don't really get that many early on and it can kill a run before it gets going.

I hate how they nerfed the shovel. Like at a certain point in these kind of games. I just want to break the shit out of it.

i don't like that they made armor count towards a hit in the bosses in the last update, before you could tank with it and still get the master rounds

play it blind a couple times

game only gives boring shit and every run feels like pulling teeth

cheat engine for rainbow chests every room

enjoy myself

learn from this thread the loot mechanics are literally cock & ball torture tier where you need to avoid pickups to have a chance at better ones

Thanks cheat engine.

it's fucking boring and has no variety or depth.
combine that with being piss fucking easy and you have a recipe for the worst roguelite ever made.

I played a bit of it but got super bored because every individual enemy took too long to kill and the setting is beyond boring desu

entire gimmick is different guns

most guns suck ass

incentivized to use the good and satisfying ones as little as possible

genius

Nuclear Throne, but slow

You can blame luck or you can get better at the game

combine that with being piss fucking easy

name 5 harder roguelites

It's another one of those games that's neat and you play it once and then find out they've been adding stuff to it for years for some reason and its not as neat anymore because its a giant hodgepodge

GEE I LOVE SHOOTING EVERYTHING WITH THE STARTER PISTOL FOR 12 HOURS BECAUSE THE GAME REFUSES TO GIVE ME A BETTER GUN
I LOVE THEN GETTING AN ACTUALLY GOOD GUN AND ONLY BEING ABLE TO USE IT FOR 5 SECONDS BEFORE IT RUNS OUT OF AMMO

Goated but a very difficult game for me.

you are guaranteed to get at least 1 gun and 1 passive item in every floor (each chest has one of those, and the shop always has at least one key and you most of the time find another as a random drop)
the update that added synergies made some early guns better (but still need to find the corresponding item)
the game has issues, don't get me wrong, but there are ways around them

Tell me with a straight face you'd continue a run if all you had was the Derringer, Bubble Blaster, or the JK-47.

Those are not fun Weapons to use.

Shame there's not much to do after you get the Gunslinger. It's fun playing with broken synergies all day.

The first 20-30 minutes of the run are incredibly boring.
You can get damage capped by your starter weapon.
A lot of the game artificial difficulty comes from it giving you no pickups, so it kills new players through attrition most of the time and it bores the fuck out of old players because you get NO KEYS to actually get items and have fun with. Since you need to spend over half of the first floor's casings on a second key; which also gimps the shop because 70-80% of your casings will be spent on keys.
The lack of room variety is pretty abysmal, you will see multiple repeats on back-to-back runs.

Coolness

It spams you will way too many shitty guns and never enough passive. Passives are more fun and the game is very conservative in giving you any, two of the mechanics that plays into this is that the boss will always drop a gun if you have not picked one up on the floor and the two chests will always be one gun, one item. The boss pedestal has a 50/50 otherwise. Leaving you with a 25/75 for actually getting an item.
And even then, the game's item list feels like it has Afterbirth+ balancing in terms of shitty bloat.

Like Hades; people like this game for it's presentation. Which is fine, Its also a shit rougelike; like Hades.
But Hades at least has it's story and metanarrative built into the genre.
Gungeon's story is a as deep as a porno's and begins and ends in a 10 cutscene

I didn't say it was fun I just said it was possible

If you're an experienced player you know how to manage keys bro it's not hard

he doesnt exclusively play the bulletkin character

and those issues, despite having ways around them, are too big to ignore and ruin the game for me personally

t. beat all the pasts for each character

never beat the hidden rat boss though fuck those unlock conditions

JK-47 is fine and it's perfectly reasonable to do the first floor with just the starter gun.

it's perfectly reasonable to do the first floor with just the starter gun

no it isn't. i'm in the GUNGEON i'd like a fucking GUN please. fuck YOU

Rainbow mod proves how unfun they intentionally made the base game.
The popularity of Gungeon has tarnished the genre's public perception into thinking that all games suffer from the extremely shit item balance.

it's like saying "it's perfectly reasonable to do all of the basement in isaac without any upgrades" then why am i playing this boring and shit game then

My point is that it's not fun

There's many complaints about Gungeon that are valid, key management is not one of them

The Pilot is the Best Gungeoneer just I can at least attempt to Lockpick a Chest because the game won't give me enough Keys, the Store Discount, and the extra Active Item Slot.

I enjoyed it a fuck load, it clicked with me perfectly. Went through to 100% the game. Unfortunately I've ruined it for myself by playing too much Gunslinger, and I can't live without all those free synergies

extremely shit item balance.

What's good item balance exactly? Is it every item being good?

IF IT'S NOT FUN
THEN WHY BOTHER
THAT'S WHAT MOST OF THIS GAME IS
POSSIBLE BUT NOT FUN
sorry for the outburst, I had to get this out of my system

It's like Nuclear Throne except it sucks in every possible way.

unless you want to go to oubliette, then you have to spend the one key you're given and the one key that's (almost) always in the shop, then HOPE you get any more from pure luck to open any chests on floor 1

got 2 files with 100%, floors needed more variety and the secret floors needed boss variety. Also not adding ALL the bosses for the fucking BOSS rush mode is stupid as hell, it's missing like 10 bosses.

It depends what you find fun, gambling or skill-based gameplay

There's 2 chests on floor 1 and you're guaranteed 3 keys

That's in the game! at base there are three characters with a fourth as a stretch girl

This is something I've been debating about, I think I may have to include it since the game is 3D and also allows you to do jumping puzzles. The familiars can protect your ass while you are airborne as it's difficult to twinstick shoot and navigate 3D platforming. Plus, my niece demanded that I put a cat in it so obviously the other animal familiars must follow suit.

Not planning on any male witches, but the necromancer witch has an Eros/Thanatos thing going on.

I haven't decided on a production artist but I do have some basics.

I want to do this, as I'm a huge noita fan (even if I've only got the basic win). However, such a system would need to be done without mouse use, as I'm heavily leaning on controller play. Also would need to be fast, as I'm not including a pause feature, and the more you dilly daily, the more deadly things become. Right now spells are like contra guns but I could make them modular with a little effort.

Sure. I know this triggers some people. I grew up playing nethack and I know the difference.

just liek maek game bro

I'll see what I can do. Arigatou.

guaranteed 3 keys

no, you're guaranteed 2 keys, one you start with and one in the shop (not guaranteed btw). and did you even know you have to spend 2 keys to go to oubliette? do you even play the game you're talking about?

did you even know you have to spend 2 keys to go to oubliette

i usually use the lockpick to get there
still annoying, keys should have been a bit more common

Nuclear Throne
but for Reddit.

you should never use a lockpick on non-chest locks, they become impossible to open if you fail the pick, always keys for doors, always lockpick for chests

they should just add a special key you can get by taking Floor+1 damage to each floor or something.

On the subject of Hades, you know what it did right? Narrow down the boon pool so you don't get a mishmash of non-synergistic bullshit like gungeon giving you a million brown chest guns.

is good

i mean, there is a *chance* for the boss to give you a key, if you feel like fighting it with your starter pistol to conserve your other keys...

Needs more passives, there's so much lack of synergy unless you start with Convict, or Robot, or Bullet. Everyone else puts a spotlight on, lot's of weapons with little character growth.
It sucks as a wigguewoe, it's an okay twin stick shooter.

t. Nuclear Throne apologist.

lol, Hades boons are fucking garbage "dash but, GREEN" vs "dash but, YELLOW". the game's runs all end up exactly the same because of the complete lack of functional variety. The only interesting choice you make in hades is "which weapon do i take" at the start of a run.

reductive summation can't be said for all movement based growth options in games like these

Doesn't Gungeon have a few passives based around rolling?

they all suck and i'm not just joking, they have some of the most minor effects of any passives. and i'm almost positive anything that says "enhances rolling" does absolutely nothing

those make the rolling anim faster, which can actually be a detriment when youre used to the normal timing

The one that lets you double jump is pretty good.

Athena is BiS, are you fucked? Makes Theseus and Minotaur a joke.

this isn't about rolling anon, every boon in hades is like this. "Charged shot, GREEN" "Charged shot, Yellow" different gods only change what status effect you inflict, and they're all different flavors of stun.

game artificially lowers your damage to make sure boss fights last the "right" amount of time

Out-steaked even Steakmund, anyone putting up with this cuck shit deserved Exit the Gungeon.

open chest of *any* color

it's an ammolet

wowee an item you only could use like 3 times a floor which you only would use if you SUCK at the game, and even then you'd be a retard to use a blank in an actual combat situation instead of looking for a secret room!

Green

you mean Crit chance with Artemis?

Yellow

you mean reflect projectiles on Athena?

i've found that one dependent on the roll animation, if you use the second jump too late you're out of the i-frames and can take damage, it doesn't extend the first roll it just allows you to do a second one soon after

and even then you'd be a retard to use a blank in an actual combat situation instead of looking for a secret room!

what a terrible mechanic it turned out to be lol

I've heard that they updated it to be better, but when I played on release it just wasn't very fun. Incredibly spongy enemies just sapped all enjoyment I could have had. Instead I played nuclear throne and had an actually good time.

and there's 6 of them to really bloat the item pools in the blue and green chest pools, the most common types in the game!

Why is that not a fucking complaint?
After 100+ hours, that shit becomes really apparent.
On average: how many keys does the game naturally drop on floors 1-5+ oubliette?
The game starves you of drops, lack of ammo IS a common complaint so you are fucking lying to me

tiddies, stockings and high heels

Fish rolling
NT should be the fucking gold standard but it isn't because devs are gay

they "buffed" the drop rate of items but's it's still completely random, you're pretty much just as likely to get a glass stone as an ammo pack. there's *technically* a lot of ways to get keys (drop from brown chests, chest destruction items, key bullet kin, boss drops, miniboss drops, shop) but it still feels consistently unlikely regardless. i usually have enought keys for whatever by floor 3 but that's pretty fucking late to feel like i have actual opportunities especially if i go to the secret levels too

What is the difference between fish rolling and rollslop? Is it like soul and soulless?

Could've been sick as hell, but instead all the weird and bizarre game design choices made it kinda lame + it's kinda slow. I found Nuclear Throne and Star of Providence, especially, way better. If you didn't like Enter the Gungeon, you'll probably like either of these. And if you did like it, then you'll probably love both.

it's worse than Nuclear Throne in basically every regard

good thing I wasn't talking about what the boons themselves did then isn't it?

It's not the worst thing ever, but the resource economy is super scarce and the fundamental gameplay when you're dry on resources is VERY basic. Probably the only thing you MIGHT not run out of constantly is ammo, and even then you still might be out of ammo for the one gun you like using. (If you have one. It can take awhile to get your economy rolling too.)
Personally I got more time out of it than Nuclear Throne but I suspect that's because there's something about Nuclear Throne I just "don't get", it's definitely got more going on in its fundamental gameplay and I like that, but I can't play another run with only area 1/2 guns showing up or I'll fucking vomit. I need to see the other 80% of the game's mechanics to keep playing.

You start with one, the shop has one, and one will drop
Yes you have to spend 2 keys to get to the oubliette, but you don't have to go there (I don't)

Litmus test for indies. People that complain about it are usually dogshit at it and have to resort to shilling NT instead where an infant can loop on their first attempt.

I have beaten Gungeon almost entirely and can't even reliably get through loop 1 of NT.

Worse than Nuclear Throne
fellow ntGODS

Nuclear throne

It insists upon itself.

Isn't it also locked to thirty fps

yes

liked monolith (the renaming was stupid) but not nuclear throne
gungeon was eh

GRAY FOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extremely boring

Get shit gun first floor

Get shit gun second floor

Get shit gun...

...

Uninstall

One of the greats. Everyone hating on it here has no skill. I've completely beaten the game and still keep coming back to it. Paradox main, btw. I love how that makes every run different

it insists upon it—WAHA

WAHAHAHAHAHA
*BOOM*
flashyn

not in the beta branch

Fish rolling is just a movement mechanic that doesn't make you invulnerable at all, so you need actual skill to avoid stuff with it
rollslop is press button for i-frames

Boring

Isaac but tears are locked to guns

Also there's barely any good guns

No synergies either

Terrible in theory, worse in practice

You have to get hit 6 times to even die in gungeon, it's not a hard game at all

this lil guy filtered me for so many hours

Making the Final Phase of the Resourceful Rat Boss turn into Punch-Out was pretty rad.

Synthetik is cool, but the bosses suck and eventually runs become very samey.

The fact most chests require a key and that the amount of money you get is completely random is extremely gay

Monolith/Star of Providence has fish by default, but an optional perk can turn it into rollslop

I think I played eleven hours of it and I hated it. It just isn't fun.
The first couple floors RNG have way too much impact on whether the next ones are going to be an absolute shitty boring slog or a mildly boring slog. It was so boring that I couldn't believe it first released WITHOUT the ability to save and quit between floors.

It is more than reasonable to do that wtf? Anon i think you might just be giga shit at video games

stop fucking stalking what im playing ree

visuals in the sequel look like ass

Owl and frog are must have familiars
