7 was a technological marvel and introduced a whole generation to the genre of jrpgs. It is a very good game but just like ocarina of time it benefits massively from being a product of it's time. FFX on the other hand is pretty much timeless. Personally it's in my top 3 FF while 7 doesn't make the top 5.

It just comes down to personal experience and nostalgia. You're not wrong to have stronger feelings for FF7. FF1 was like the third game I ever played, FFX to me stands out more than 7 did across the breadth of FF games, but it's damn sure a taste thing - I just like turn based more than ATB, and I think FFX was a huge step forward for UX in turn based games, at least in the mainstream - it hit a great balance of approachability and depth.
"Best" ## lists are dumb as hell, especially from any sort of media company, I'd accept a panel arguing and explaining what they felt were the most impactful games of a certain genre, but "best" is just a shit idea to even do. The list is actually, "My favorite JRPGs" by Casual McFuckstick, purveyor of only the most mainstream, sans 1-3 mandatory 'oddball' picks to prove their cred.
