Battlefield 4 is fun but I wish there were more rotation servers rather than just 24/7 locker, shangai, metro and golmud.

He never overkills a target. Once the machine no longer recognizes a player it will snap to the next available target. No human can instantly flick to a new target the same moment the previous target died.

Your inability to flick as well as them is because your monitor doesn't have a high enough refresh rate, so you aren't getting the necessary stream of information to predict motion properly.

You can sort of hear the direction of people in BF, especially in 4 when it's a proper server with different teams so you can tell them apart by voice commands. You absolutely the fuck cannot tell the precise positioning of someone who isn't even shooting much less in 64+ player Lockers where all you hear period is a gorillion explosions and machine guns overlapped onto each other and all 3D audio goes out the window.

make sure PunkbusterA is running before you launch the game, make a shortcut to it or something. i don't have it installed but IIRC that's what I had to do, run the PB diagnostic utility or whatever it is before playing

I would if more players were on pc. The servers are significantly more dead than they were a few years back, sadly. Just a handful of conquest and Rush servers are lively, and the tdm ones are mostly gone. HC servers are around, but low in numbers like the rest.
In the meantime I recommend BF2042 whenever the BF3 Portal events happens. Once they're over I uninstall again lol.

The machineguns in BF4 feel so odd. You shoot the M249 but it feels like only 1 out of 5 bullets are actual projectiles doing damage and the rest are nonexistent, just a number on your hud going down. Is this a decision made so that some guns wouldn't mow down people in half a second?

Accuracy doesn't matter. KPM and KD matters. KPM more importantly. Since you can abuse KD with being a campercuck or having a healslut.
Best Battlefield(3) didn't had a commander mode or anything like that.
I always figured BF3/4 had them balanced to be suppression weapons, or more so balanced them to be used like they are irl.
Very helpful to just unload on a position to keep their heads down. Though in 4, I had fond memories of slapping a potato grip on the 249 and pushing a lot. iirc it was one of the more tameable lmgs you could run'n'gun with.

Conversely, KPM says nothing about how you're actually playing or if you're playing objectives- it just says if someone plays exclusively Metro and Locker with a constant stream of players or if they branch out into full size Conquest or Rush where you might not be in the meat grinder constantly.

That's also true but KPM is generally a good way to measure skill. Also objective play doesn't matter. Team who kills the other team first wins first. That's only an issue when your team can't cap the the flags you cleared. High KPM can't allow you to win the game if your team refuses to cap the empty objectives.
Yeah they usually just fly all over the place if the bi-pod isn't out. In retrospect I think it was alright, because with the suppression system in 3+4, Support class/machine gunners get the most suppression points awarded iirc. So score/role wise the payout seems fair/proper. Drop ammo boxes and suppress the enemy.

i have seen a surprising number of games where one team is getting rolled killwise but actually standing on the flags so they win despite the enemy having a heli pilot taking 150 tickets all by himself, but i dunno if they changed flag bleed rate or how it counts down in later bf games, so I'll rescind from calling you a fucking bush wookie out of niceness
