Daggerfall

what made this game so good for its time?

dagger.gif - 383x208, 15.95K

nothing people hated it due to unending bugs

this true?

yes the consensus back then was "nice ambitious experiment shame that it runs like complete shit, gets itself locked constantly fucking me out of quests for no reason and isnt fun even when it works, Im going back to ultima underworld"

i guess it also doesnt help it was PC only and ran on DOSbox. seems like a night and day difference compared to how daggerfall is seen now

console rpgs are a joke

There is a reason no one even glanced in its direction until the unity version was released even with how popular the sequels are

to some extent i agree, but isnt final fantasy a huge RPG series that was on consoles?

from what I read unity removed all the bugs and is more accessible. ive been playing it and been obsessed

Famously the Deus Ex designers used it as a perfect example of "What Not to Do"

that i had no idea about. i will admit, the world being vast has huge drawbacks because you will never have enough time to explore it.

I see this thread pop up a few times and now I finally have a mod list to share

These are some great mods, I believe I have most of these :D

Not really. At the time the main problem was that most people didn't have the computer to run it. Then once they did, times moved on and it became dated.

accidentally click no

locked out of main quest

seems like it was a big game for its time, it apparently came with 5 floppies to download all the files

Dunno. It's hard to get a read on many people's opinions about it pre-Daggerfall Unity because the allowed freedom and plethora of bugs meant many trivialized the entire game right out the gate at the custom class screen.

It was. It was also really quite advanced for the time both graphically and in terms of the game world. Obviously it's dated significantly, but I still 'member.

unity fixed all its bugs or so im aware, and it doesnt feel as trivial now

Wayward Realms still in dev hell

sad

is that game supposed to be daggerfall 2.0?

yeah

well at least we have daggerfall unity to still enjoy!

This. It was ridiculed even in its own time.

hella booba

Fuck them. Developing an entire skill that only exists to have a chance at pacifying an enemy type that you will only run into once or twice in your entire playthrough is soul.

Daggerfall and Starfield have the same soul.
Extremely kino but it takes a certain IQ and a lot of time to grasp.

is this bait? I haven't tried starfield yet, and the modding community seems to hate it so I doubt it'll be good.

The absolute balls of actually attempting to make it.

It was really buggy, there's a huge list of them but the one that irks me the most was the Dodge Change actually working backwards and making you easier to hit the higher yours was

Go back to Plebbit.

Soul doesn't keep the lights on, even in the 90s.

Explain how Starfield has soul

rich coming from the guys who couldn't design proper AI and stealth systems

I thought the issue was the dodging skill reduced hit chance for the both enemies AND the player.

he thought WW would ever escape dev hell

GOD DAMMIT PETERSON HIRE SOME MORE TARDS

man can't even keep his website running
how can he manage a game project

Wayward Wealms

ok it's time to sleep afterall

daggerfall unity

smaller dungeons enabled

yup i'm underage how did you know

What's wrong with giving the quest oriented people an option?
The dungeon crawler oriented people can still play the big two hour long dungeons. Not much of a worse feeling than forgetting to save and getting one shot by an ancient vampire or not putting down a recall anchor
Or falling into a pit and not having levitation or high enough climb skill

no barenziah boutique

lame

Is there anything worth buying in this? I'm fucking rich

It was the first 3D Open World RPG. Compared to other RPGs at the time, it had a huge world and a lot of freedom to do what you wanted. One of the selling point was that there were thousands of NPCs that you could talk to. It was amazing at first, but after 20 hours or so you realized it was big but really shallow like all Bethesda games. Most of the world was procedurally generated and the NPCs didn't really have anything to say.

It steals them from the unfortunates that play it

I think you mean

I'm not unemployed how did you know?

wtf does paperdoll enhanced even do

People fellate this game becuase "le heckin biggest open world in the industry!" and that is the only positive thing I've ever heard about it, nobody actually cares after they play it for a few hours and then move on to something else

Nobody really fellates it, only people trying to pretend to be oldfags. Most people who've played it know it's boring garbage, just like shartfield

1997

Modern open world games still feel like soulless husks

How have we learned nothing in 30 years?

daggerfall had hundreds of significant bugs, many of which were gamebreaking
most notably, if you maxed out any skill before reaching level 10 the game would be rendered incompletable. How they fucked that up I don't know, but it and 30 other bugs were fixed in the first patch

I liked it because it was a fun fantasy life simulator for its time, despite all the bugs and glitches.

I'm old as fuck and smaller dungeons are at least 10x better

wheres the lewd mods though

Tell people to make them.

that would be rude and imposing. i thought they already existed
