Game currently exists as a series of demos for various mechanics

One of these demos is basically just the opening of the game

There's supposed to be a cinematic at the start but it isn't finished

You wake up in a Thalmor slave ship, two redguard prisoners across from you, a young girl, Sati, and an old man, Alside something or other

Graphics look nice, about on par with Starfield, lighting effects are really impressive, and both Sati and Alside have cool designs

Sati is friendly and wants to get to know you via character creation

You're given the option to either humor her playing a "Game of Questions" where you decide different aspects of your character individually, or pick a pre-made character type that you can then adjust as you please.

The former is more entertaining since Sati and Alside will make comments on every choice (Alside usually negative)

Attributes have made a comeback (sort of) they don't have a numerical value, it's a bar that fills as you level and it shows clear differences depending on race, if you mouse over it gives details on its relative magnitude, superior/greater/weaker/inferior/etc

Skills divvied up pretty much the same as Skyrim, Hand to Hand is back and Enchanting is gone

One thing (I'm not sure how I feel about it) you can level up Skills as much as you want but advancing "expertise" (ie Novice to Apprentice, and so on) you have to visit a trainer and either buy in or complete a test of skill

Backgrounds are a new feature that seem like they replace class, gives a little flavor as to who you were before the story, but also sets your starting equipment, standing with various factions, can give you friends, rivals, family members, one option gives you a dog

After you make your character the three of you escape the Thalmor tutorial ship

Combat is super polished, like, weapons and armor have actual mass and momentum when you use them, and where you hit really seems to carry through

There's a VATS-like system, that puts you into bullet time while draining your stamina, where you can perform crazy parries, attack specific body parts, or (if you're unarmed) pull off cool wrestling tricks

Eventually you're cornered by the Thalmor, Alside badly fucked up and Sati is taken hostage

Unable to fight, Alside passes his shehai (which he uses throughout the tutorial) to you

You use the spirit blade to cut the boat in half and you all fall into a storming sea

You wake up on a tropical island, Alside badly injured, and Sati holding a sword at a certain elf Elenwen and she’s actually hot now

You talk Sati down from killing her (if you like evil elves) and then begin the base-building/survival-crafting tutorial tending Alside’s wounds

At the end of the tutorial Alside charges you with protecting Sati, she is the true heir of the throne of Sentinel

Alside dies, and you build a raft to take you to the mainland where the demo ends

i haven't played the original since 2008. you're going to have to spell it out.

The point of the quest is that you go into the well and find a guy who drowned, so you take his ring which adds a 150 pounds to your carry weight, causing you to drown too since you can't move. Now you can move while over encumbered.

Cheap bloom like non-HDR (display or even worse, non-HDR rendered) just makes things harder to see. Good bloom is neat.

oh. i guess I didn't think about it because I had like 500 carry weight from max strength and some feather effects by the time I did the quest and never ended up encumbered.

I don't think it's possible to simply remaster morrowind. They'd have to remake it from the ground up which would be a colossal effort compared to modding in a handful of new features and running the graphics through a UE5 shell.

Exactly. There's a big difference between good bloom that enhances lighting and atmosphere, and bad bloom that just blows everything out into a blurry mess. HDR rendering helps a ton, but most devs just crank it up without tuning it properly. Oblivion had that weird Vaseline lens look in some areas because of it.
