Redpill me on vsync

Anyone who uses it is too stupid to notice the input lag that it introduces
The only time it's reasonable to use is if you are playing on a big TV with a controller and the screen tearing is too distracting. and even then the input lag is annoying as hell

Interesting. I don't particularly notice input lag, but I notice when it's away. Retroarch has a shit ton of input delay by default and when I removed it, it was like playing a different game immediately. I think tearing is mostly subtle but very rarely do I need to turn on vsync for violent tearing. I don't particularly notice the lag. I have a 75hz monitor and some old games bug the fuck out and have no cap, so I have to use vsync.

Why didnt you just get a 165hz monitor

Old me told me to turn on motion blur once, fucking prick.

not getting 788hz

Is this why I can't parry in E33?

I dont know shit about speccs or system requirements or hardware or anything, i just lower the resolution until i get enough FPS to play comfortably

Frame tearing is just a budget 60hz monitor thing. Literally never happens on a nice 1440p 480hz OLED from LG.

and some old games bug the fuck out and have no cap, so I have to use vsync

Just use a regular fps cap through nvidia inspector or rivatuner, it doesn't introduce the input lag that vsync does

I actually do, it supports 144 and 165. I've had it for a year and a half now, not really sure why I haven't used 165. Maybe I'll switch it over

Dell monitor?

Probably, gameplay that requires strict timing like parrying is when input lag is the most noticeable. My first introduction into it was back in 2009 when I switched Guitar Hero over to an HD tv from a crt. The input lag made the game unplayable, all rhythm games require lowest latency possible or you have to push the buttons ahead of time to not fuck up

Nope it's an ASUS. VG27AQ1A to be exact.

who cares about input lag when you're playing at 144 fps and it's not esport shit?

not having a 1488hz monitor

buying 1440p 480hz oled next month

Literally perfect

If you have no input lag then your actions and the visual response of the game are in one continuous and synchronised harmony. Your cursor and arm becomes one with the camera.

which one? i got a 1440p 240hz asus oled last year and it's one of the greatest purchases i've ever made in my life

180hz

gsync

vsync off, of course

no tearing

no input lag

cum everywhere

Why would you do this when you can buy a 4k/144hz TV?

I'm extremely sensitive to it, doesn't matter if the game is competitive or not.

Gsync works great on some games but others it adds a fuck ton of input lag for me. I hear that combining it with low latency (reflex) helps though

my pc is hooked up to a 1440p 240hz oled and a 65" 4k oled and i use the monitor 90% of the time

ok go ahead and play with three seconds of input lag then faggot

It's more important my screen isn't tearing than to compete in Oblivion Remastered.

if this existed we could play lightgun's games with the old tech

Yeah and whats your tvs refresh rate?

120, but 120 is totally acceptable imo

Screen tearing on a monitor does not bug me but when I'm playing on my big TV it does

iirc vsync syncs the frames to 60hz. If you have a 60hz monitor it smoothed the frames so it's not a jagged mess with splits. idk if it works on higher frame rate monitors and im too lazy to look it up.

Vsync limits the fps to whatever refresh rate your monitor is. If you have 60 hz, it caps to 60 fps. 144 hz to 144 fps, and so on

The jump from 60 to 120hz is by far the most important. Anything over 120hz is just icing on top. Way less important

Ah ok.

144hz monitor
G-sync always ON

Why are all these nice 240hz screens all OLED? I don't want burn in shit. Recommend me a 32inch 4k 240hz non oled screen.

what the fuck, gsync shouldn't be adding ANY lag to anything whatsoever

I see conflicting info all over. I'm honestly not sure myself other than the couple of games I've felt the lag in

Use vsync from your GPU control pannel and cap the fps to 60, I've found it works well.

If your monitor has screen tearing when vsync is off then you should buy a monitor that isn't shit.

I walked into a emo bar with trailer park boys on the tv

Yeah but how many PCs can really run at anything substantially higher than 120fps in triple A games? Especially call of duty and competitive games. So it doesnt matter

Based emos

normalfag retard playing AAA slop has no idea what vsync is

wonderful board we've got here, sure am glad we don't permaban everyone who started posting after 2007

Yeah they had classic always sunny on too, pretty good taste

LG UltraGear OLED Gaming Monitor 27GX790A

4k

i like my framerates high
i already have an old 144hz piece of shit and i want more

in triple A games?

Found your problem right there, play something good for once fucking retard.

Most modern computers can play almost every game that has ever been released well beyond those framerates. Only the shittiest AAA corporate stockholder MBA slop you wouldn't even play would struggle, or you have a budget PC for some reason.

Yup, this is nicely detailed. I read a bunch of stuff there when I was setting up my new stuff.

Lots of people in this thread who must have glaring issues based on what they're saying.

also if g-sync doesn't work with the game, or you can't get good fps I prefer to lock fps to half the refresh rate of my screen and disable gaysync

One thing I haven't been able to get to the bottom of on my system is why when I put the desktop to 144hz, the driver bombs when coming out of sleep. it's very intermittent. sometimes it will go a whole week without doing it, then it will do it 3 times in a row.

isn’t input lag a lot more worse when you play at high frames?
